| Sugar is re-homed from a friend of my daughter. They had 2 yorkies and I often wonder if she misses her brother ![]() I also know this was absolutely the best thing for her. She is 2 1/2 years old and was "owned" by a 7 year old little boy! The family had 4 boys and had given birth to a little Down's Syndrome baby- they clearly did what was right for her and her brother Tikki |

| We have 3 dogs, all adoptions/rescues. Punkin is our Yorkie and newest member of the family. We rescued her from a puppy mill situation in December. She'd been a breeder and had outlived her usefulness as her last litter was only 1 puppy. We've had some adjustments as she had no idea what it was like to be held, petted or loved and we've worked very hard on getting rid of bad habits (like eating her own feces) but she's doing very well. We've been looking for another Yorkie as a companion for Punkin, unfortunately I've not had much luck finding one that is affordable. We also have Bear who is a Maremma. He's a 125 lb guardian dog. A local farmer had a huge litter of pups several years ago (12 of them!) and was giving the puppies away. I'm not sure where my brain was when I saw this tiny ball of white fluff and noticed his dad standing at the gate looking over the top of it at me, but it didn't occur to me Bear would grow so large. He's a gentle giant, however, and quite a spoiled old man. We've had Bear 11 years now. In retirement all Bear guards these days is me. Last, but certainly not least, is Maggie. She's a brown dog of quite questionable lineage who we brought home one day after stopping at another local farm. They had a huge group of puppies laying on a bed of hay and they were covered in fleas and other eewy stuff. My husband chose Maggie, we put her in a box we had in the truck with us, brought her home and immediately gave her 3 baths...it took that many to get rid of the fleas and clean her up. She's been a loyal and loving girl. We've had Maggie 12 years now. She and Bear are happily living the remainder of their lives in retirement. They've got the Ritz-Carlton of dog compounds with 2 1/2 acres to run and play...okay walk and lay in the shade. |

| My Madison is a rescue. Someone thought he was disposeable ![]() I was sort of thinking about adding a female Yorkie to our family but was struggling with the "Will it make Max happier or not" dilemma when I got a call from a friend who said someone had just called her asking if she knew anyone who would want a little Yorkie that his daughter had found wandering around alone in the desert. She couldn't take him, but she called me. I didn't really want another male dog, and even though the girl had found him alone, I just couldn't believe that the dog had no home and no owners frantically searching for him! I mean, who would abandon (at the time, that word never even entered my mind!) a darling, sweet little Yorkie? I knew all too well how devastated members here were whenever their Yorkie went missing or anything happened to them, and I knew that they were often stolen; but being abandoned was the furthest possibility from my mind! Anyway, I said I would find it's owners because I was sure they were out there somewhere, and if my Max had been stolen or lost, I'd hope that somene would try to find ME. So before I ever even laid eyes on this dog, I had called every vet in the county of Riverside, asking if they had any clients or any flyers up in their office for a missing male Yorkie. Nobody did. Then I checked online at every lost pet site I could find; I contacted ANYONE who sounded anywhere nearly matching this dog's description, got a few responses, and one who looked SO MUCH like him, but it wasn't him. I told the girl who'd found him before she brought him to me to take him to a vet or a shelter and have him scanned for a microchip. Of course, he had none. So I figured I'd eventually find his owner and I told her I"d keep him until we did. When I met her in a parking lot, Madison leapt from her arms right into mine. He was starving to death, weighed only 2 1/2 lbs and was matted and sick, but you could tell immediately how loving he was! I got him home and got him unmatted and bathed, started feeding him but he would either vomit or had diarrhea. I was a little concerned about transmitting something to Max, but I knew I had to help this little dog. He was so sweet; stayed with me all the time, but at bedtime, he wouldn't stay in the bedroom with us; he went and slept on the floor just outside the bedroom. He didn't know how to play at all and had NO idea what a toy was for or how to play with one. He lifted his leg on EVERYTHING (I've gotten really good at making bellybands that are really cute on him!) and my husband works out of town and is only home on the weekends. When he got home, he was F U R I O U S with me. It got to the point where he said "it's either me or that dog" (or something to that effect) and I had to stand my ground. He told me that I absolutely could NOT spend money on him taking him to the vet, and I knew if I didn't, the little guy would die. I was so scared for him and agonizing over what to do and how to do it. I finally DID take him (like as soon as my dh went back to work on Monday ) and we did the least invasive and expensive physical and tests on him that we could. He was basically healthy, but has some stomach issues which have cleared up for the most part with a good diet (which turned out to be the same thing my Max was on anyway, so it was perfect!) and some Pepcid. I got all his shots, got him neutered and microchipped all through our local shelter (the county even sent me a voucher for the neuter so I only ended up paying a fraction of the fee). That was just a little over a year ago. Madison now is about 8 lbs (he was always taller than Max anyhow), he bounces instead of walks, he is the king of all the toys (much to Max's annoyance), sleeps as close to me in the bed as possible and is my little shadow. Wherever I go, there he is. I don't know that I've ever seen such a joyful, loving and funny dog. He's a little clown and wants to play all the time. He picks up a toy and takes it over to Max, standing in front of him, taunting him until Max can no longer ignore him and chases after him. It's so cute and so funny. It's hard to think back to not so long ago when he was such a sick little guy. And nobody ever was looking for him. The vet and several shelters told me he was either a reject from a puppy mill near where he was found or just abandoned. It hurts to think of what he must have gone through out in a desert filled with hungry coyotes and other abandoned dogs, all fighting over the same food, water and shelter from the wind and/or sun and he being such a tiny little guy. And how long he had to experience that. I'm so thankful that I stood up for him and made sure that he knew he was worth saving and knows that he is loved. Everytime I look at him, it makes me feel good about myself because I feel like it's the best and most important thing I've ever done. If I'm ever having a bad day, all I have to do is look over at him and I feel so blessed; there's nothing like rescuing an animal to make you feel like a hero. And I think that's how they view us; they KNOW and are so grateful. Oh...and no, the husband did not leave and has grown to love Madison almost as much as I do!

| Wow, after that longwinded narrative, I forgot to add a photo of Madison~ the one on the far right on the sofa is the first day I got him, and the others more recent!

| So the other day I was talking about how excited Geita gets when she is around other Yorkies. But around here we very rarely get Yorkies into rescue. Well, I spoke too soon. Not one but two Yorkie rescues are sitting in my living room right now! I just picked them up an hour and a half ago. So far all we know about them is what the breeder told us. The little boy is 4 yrs old and his daughter, the little girl is 2 yrs. old. They have been in there breeding cages since they were old enough to breed (whatever age the people decided that was). And the little boy has in cataract in his right eye. They are both very scared, but the boy is more outgoing and he is very protective of the little girl. The little girl is so scared that she won't even look at anyone. She just keeps her back turned, it's so sad. We are going to wait until tomorrow to give them their baths and I will try to groom them up a little and take more pictures. For now they are camped out on the monster dog bed in front of the fireplace. The little boy is on the left and the little girl is on the right.

| They were stinky little babies.... I decided to name them Capt.Jack and Sparrow . Geita is having a blast, she just LOVES LOVES LOVES getting to play with Yorkies. I think it's comforting to Jack and Sparrow to see Geita getting loves from me and being so eager to be near me. They don't seem as freaked out anymore.Anyway, Capt. Jack is pictured first and Sparrow next, and then I snapped a pic of them fast asleep on the couch. They are like little conjoined twins, one doesn't move without the other. It's so sweet the poor babies.

| Penny came from a BYB-turned-animal hoarder. It was a really sad situation; the lady thought she had only seven dogs. She was very elderly and suffering from dementia. She fell and broke her hip, and the truth was revealed when she called the animal hospital where I was working and asked if we could go and get her dogs out of the house for her since she was in the hospital and could not go home to care for them. There were thirty dogs running around her house, many of whom were sickly or injured and all of whom were filthy. There was so much excrement around that it was a serious health hazard to the old woman as well as her animals. I feel very grateful that Penny has been healthy so far-- several of the other dogs were not that lucky. She does have some potty-in-the-house issues to this day which I think may have a root in the fact that she spent her prime house-training months running around in a home where no one cared if she went wherever she pleased.

| Since I've already shared "my" adoption stories of Abby & Phoebe with you...I thought I'd share a couple stories about two little Yorkie-boys who I fostered before they went to live with their furever homes! Rocky ![]() ![]() & 1 Maltese . Poor Rocky had a history of Bladder Stones (Calcium Oxalate) Surgery and traveling long distances with infrequent potty stops became a recipe for disaster when he had a recurrence. Almost at the same time, the economy took a nose dive along with unemployment which Rocky's owner became a victim of, too. Rather than put his beloved Sammie When his owners could no longer afford his rising Vet bills, they failed to pay for his care and never came back for him! Amazingly enough though, Sammie pulled through like a little champ and ultimately found his furever Momma who dotes on him now like he were her little prince! It thrills me to no end to just know how a set of tragic circumstances that left these two little Yorkie-boys in need could end so beautifully! ![]() Pictured below is Rocky on the left and Sammie is pictured on the right:

| I loved reading everyone's stories and cried so much! There are such loving and caring people here. Bless you all for opening your hearts to these babies. My Barley was a rescue, and I will always choose to rescue. It's amazing how much love a rescued dog gives you, especially one that's a little older. I found Barley on Petfinder and though he looked horrible in his picture, I knew he was the one. He was also one that didn't know how to play with a toy when we first brought him home. Now, just 4 months later he loves playing fetch and shake the tar out of it ![]() He is VERY dog aggressive, even to puppies and no matter how much socializing we do, he just isn't happy with other dogs. But he loves my Great Pyrenees and toy poodle And he hasn't met a human yet that he didn't love from the start. I was so excited when the rescue group called me and thought that through all our conversations and home checks, that this rescue group was reputable and would have his best interest at heart. I was wrong!!! We drove 3 1/2 hours to pick him up and though he was as they said, seen by a "vet", But he was skin and bones, had kennel cough, ear mites, ear infections, an ulcer on his eye, a lump on his neck, a broken canine tooth, broken front teeth, very stinky / dirty, it goes on and on. But long story short he is healthy and happy now. I'm sharing his whole story only to say that just because someone claims to be a rescue group, don't take that like I did, and think that they will take every step necessary to make sure the dog is healthy before adopting it out. Next time I will research the rescue group before applying with them. But....Barley is my love bug and I wouldn't trade him for anything in the world!!! I'm still angry with his "rescue group" for failing to treat his medical needs. If anyone wants to know they are K-9 Lifesavers in DC. And, Yes, I've turned them into DC animal control. I'm hoping the photos will attached, but I'm terrible slow at learning how to upload them on threads. SO if they don't...Barley's my avatar and there are photos in my albums if anyone likes to take a look. Thanks for reading and starting this wonderful thread!

| I'm shocked...I attached the photos ![]() The first two are from his Petfinder's ad. Doesn't he look so sad? Breaks my heart every time I see them I have to pick him up and renew my promise to love and cherish and protect him forever ![]() The last is all my fur babies and so you can see he does love my other pups, just doesn't like strange / new dogs. Thanks for listening / reading ![]() I still can't believe I did the attachment right. Yeah!!!
