I loved reading everyone's stories and cried so much! There are such loving and caring people here. Bless you all for opening your hearts to these babies.
My Barley was a rescue, and I will always choose to rescue. It's amazing how much love a rescued dog gives you, especially one that's a little older.
I found Barley on Petfinder and though he looked horrible in his picture, I knew he was the one. He was also one that didn't know how to play with a toy when we first brought him home. Now, just 4 months later he loves playing fetch and shake the tar out of it
He is VERY dog aggressive, even to puppies and no matter how much socializing we do, he just isn't happy with other dogs. But he loves my Great Pyrenees and toy poodle

And he hasn't met a human yet that he didn't love from the start.
I was so excited when the rescue group called me and thought that through all our conversations and home checks, that this rescue group was reputable and would have his best interest at heart. I was wrong!!!
We drove 3 1/2 hours to pick him up and though he was as they said, seen by a "vet", But he was skin and bones, had kennel cough, ear mites, ear infections, an ulcer on his eye, a lump on his neck, a broken canine tooth, broken front teeth, very stinky / dirty, it goes on and on. But long story short he is healthy and happy now.
I'm sharing his whole story only to say that just because someone claims to be a rescue group, don't take that like I did, and think that they will take every step necessary to make sure the dog is healthy before adopting it out. Next time I will research the rescue group before applying with them. But....Barley is my love bug and I wouldn't trade him for anything in the world!!! I'm still angry with his "rescue group" for failing to treat his medical needs. If anyone wants to know they are K-9 Lifesavers in DC. And, Yes, I've turned them into DC animal control.
I'm hoping the photos will attached, but I'm terrible slow at learning how to upload them on threads. SO if they don't...Barley's my avatar and there are photos in my albums if anyone likes to take a look. Thanks for reading and starting this wonderful thread!
