| Baron was 6 months old when I got him from a breeder. Sammy was a Puppy Mill Rescue that we found in Philadelphia @ a Halloween parade that our Daughter was twirling in. Sammy is a Papillion. He was running around in the crowd of people. They were kicking him and we saw people burning him with Cigarettes. I yelled @ them and ran toward them. They left him go and we ran after him. Finally someone picked him up and we took him from them. He was so small and shaking, dirty and burned on his legs. We asked around and were told that a PMiller dropped off a truckload of former breeders Hoping someone would pick them up. We brought Sammy home. We took him to the vets. He guessed him to be between 1-2 y.o. He weighed 1 lb. 14 ozs. That was on Halloween. By Feb. he weighed 3 lbs. and was neutered. Sammy now weighs about 12-13 lbs. He's a little teapot. In March he saved my life when I had my first Heart attack 2 home in the basement. Sammy ran upstairs to get my Husband. I heard him digging @ the door. I passed out to be woken up by Sammy having his tongue down my throat. Together we climbed the stairs. I opened the door and Sammy woke my Hubs. Rory came out and found me on the floor. He rushed me to the Hospital. I had another Heart Attack and a Mini-Stroke while I was there. The Drs. believe that i stopped breathing and Sammy got me breathing again. I spent 9 days in the hospital. Sammy is my Velcro Dog since I got home. He always sleeps with me and follows me everywhere. He's my HERO!!! Sophie Kennedy is a re-homed 17 mo little girl that we went to Arkansas in May and picked up. She was re-homed from a YT member who got a divorce. There were to be 2 girls But, The smaller of the 2 had been bumped by a car and is deaf in 1 ear and has gotten aggressive. We brought Sophie Kennedy home on May 12. She is 9 lbs. of LOVE. She acts like she has always been with us. She and the boys get along great. I am now looking for another little girl...A Yorkie or Yorkie Mix to round out the family.... Yorkies are Addictive!!!

| This is such a wonderful thread- I have loved reading all the heartwarming stories! We adopted our little Bella about 2.5 months ago from a rescue. The vet estimated her age at 2 yrs. I don't know much of anything about her history- only that the rescue got her from someone who "dumped her." The rescue had cared very well for her in the week or two they had her before I adopted her and when I drove the 5 hrs to pick her up, she came to me clean, spayed, and up to date on shots thanks to them. She was shaking and timid when I picked her up and it was a week or two before I actually heard her bark. It's been a beautiful process seeing her come out of her shell and become comfortable and happy in our home. She is now learning to play with toys, explore on our walks, play with the little chiwawa down the street and to be a spoiled little princess I must admit that the adoption may have been even more a blessing for me than for her though... When I first started thinking about adopting, I was having trouble with anxiety and since Bella has been with us, I am so much more relaxed and sleeping so well. (Now that Bella barks- she is my little alarm dog and I know she will alert me if anyone were ever to break in). Bella is such a little love! I wonder sometimes if she is even more loving and appreciative for the life she has now? I don't know all that she went through before she came to us- I think I'm a healing, calming influence on her, but I know she is healing and calming me- something my DH and I are so grateful for. As a first time dog owner- I had no idea what a huge impact such a tiny furbaby could have on our family and I am thankful everyday to have her in my life. |

| Since I see other's posted non-yorkie rescues I guess that would enclude me too. In 1970 we rescued a German Shepard mix who was 1yr old from the local pound. He was the most precious loving dog ever and became a family member the first day and just loved our three children. He was a gentle giant and my son's best bud over the next 16yrs. He had to be PTS at age 17yrs (8/86) due to renal failure and my son locked himself in his room for 2 days at age 26. His heart was broken. I held Pepper in my arms as he went to Rainbow bridge. It was a hard time for my family since my husband was in the hospital in critical condition just having had brain surgery. Then again in 1987 one month after I lost my husband, my daughter and I went back to the pound and rescued a little terrier they said was found in a garbage can looking for food. He was in a pen with many large dogs but when we got there to look came right up front, getting stepped on by his pen mates trying to get our attention. He did get our attention and was now our new family member. We named him Teddy because he looked like a dirty, raggedy golden teddy bear. He was approx 2yrs old and was a joy also. Teddy had to be PTS at age 16yrs due to renal failure and joined the brother he never new at Rainbow bridge on 10/6/2001. I didn't want another one, it was too hard to say goodbye. I waited three years and couldn't stand being alone any longer. Rescues are wonderful family members and give nothing but love, love and more love. I did try to rescue an adult Yorkie but had no luck due to working full time I was denied. So lucky for Buddy I went out to buy one and home he came with me. The rest of his story is on YT He is the most challenging of them all but the love of my life. |

| We have Lola who was a rehome. We got her when she was 3 months old. The people said their 5 year old was mistreating her but we found out after that it was a scam. she works with a puppy mill, posts on petfinder and tells the same story to everyone. We paid very little for her but found out that the puppy mill gives her the puppies that are going to be larger and harder to sell. Lola is 10 lb. and a real love! She is now 2 years old. morrislaz |

| All these stories are truly amazing. Some of them are hard to read I just cant understand how anyone could harm such innocent animals, but these stories do really warm your heart. I just had a question I've been wondering for a while, Do all puppies from pet stores come from puppy mills? I heard that that was the case after I had purchased Nana from a Petland. |

Before I came here, I know you shouldn't buy from a pet store, but I thought it was more that you could get scammed on pedigrees, the dogs might be sick and poorly socialized, etc. I had no idea that puppy mills existed or the misery they perpetrate.

| Well she has been a slower learner and shes suffering from reverses sneezing but other than that shes perfectly healthy. I knew about puppy mills and wished I could find one and take all the puppies home with me. So then its probably more likely that she did come from a mill you think? Thats to bad but I don't think I would rule out buying from pet stores, I'm sure if they didn't sell the pups they would go back wouldn't they? |

| What a happy thread! Both of my boys are re-homes. I love them so much and am grateful every day that they came to live with me! They each have a very special story and they are father and son coming from 2 different homes! I am very blessed!
