Maemi was singled out to me because she was not quite 3 lbs and has only 3 legs. Poor baby look like a little drown rat, she was so thin, dehydrated, no hair, bad teeth, etc. I wasn't planning on keeping her, but her eyes never left my face. She still looks at me with those adoring eyes.

A year later, Maimi is a health happy 4 lbs joy. I love her to pieces. She is the best little Yorkie I could ever hoped for. Lately she figured how to run and chase with tiny toys in her mouth. It make my heart hurt to think that she never knew what toys were growing up. She has beautiful thick hair after months and months of deep conditioning, brushing, oiling (to help with all the black dead skin). Her teeth had been fixed, she stands so still every night for me to brush them.

I actually took her back to the shelter in Febuary, the lady that nursed her just cried. She said that Maemi was found in a little crate that was full of stuff, all the other dogs were pecking on her. The first 2 nights at the shelter, she couldn't even lift her head up to eat or drink.

I don't know how long she will be with me, the Vet thinks that she is about 7-8 years old. All I can say is I love her so much and could not think of not having her.

Here are 2 pictures, the first on is Maimi April 2008, the second was Maimi October 2008.
This story made me tear up! I'm so glad to see she's so happy and healthy! It's a beautiful story, and she's a darling little girl.

I love seeing your babies cuddle! They are just so precious together. I had a giant breed (bullmastiff), and after he passed got my girls, but I have such a soft spot for the ones you can bear hug.

This entire thread is a real pick-me-up and is making me cry happy tears.

My first Yorkie-girl was Bella whom as much as I hate to admit it...a Pet Store Pooch....I know, I know, that was before becoming educated on the ways of the world & where these lil' darlings really come from.

Then, came Abby...my "first" Rescue Adoption thru YTNR...which was a wonderful experience that led me to become a Foster Mom, too. Abby's story was that her previous pet owner, a college student wanted a T-Cup to tote around in her lil' Doggy Purse. However, when Abby grew into her 8-9 lb frame...her owner grew tired of her and she came to live with me who loves every square inch of her loveliness!

Last, came Phoebe...my "second" Rescue Adoption thru YTNR! Her story was that she was surrendered by a Backyard Breeder who could no longer see a $$$ profit in her after two Casarean's births. She was a whole different ball of wax from Abby. At least Abby got some socialization whereas Phoebe was not so, she has been a lot more work to get her to trust & be social...but, she is getting there...slowly but, surely. I'm blessed that she thinks that I'm her Momma and believe me, she's never two steps away from my ankles and when I've been away she's always full of kisses for me upon my return!

Here are some pic's of my girlies for your enjoyment! Bella is my T-pot, Abby is almost all Silver & Cream & Phoebe is my lil' Darkie. The last pic includes my last (foster) YTNR-Rescue, Sammie (aka Rascal) who was just adopted a few weeks ago to live in his furever home with his new Momma, Sandy!

I only have one pup, Addie, but she was a rehome. After years of not having a dog after my poodle died, I decided to start looking again. (I got my poodle probably from an unreputable breeder. I was five and remember going to a flea market styled place filled with pups for sale. My parents and I just didn't know any better then, but we do now!)

I had to have a smaller dog since I lived in an apartment at the time and because my job requires me to move so much I thought it was just easier to have a small dog. I also had to have one that didn't shed, or shed very very minimally because I'm allergic.

I went to shelter after shelter trying to find the perfect baby. It was so hard because I get so sad visiting shelters. I was starting to get frustrated when a friend of a co-worker was giving away her yorkie because she already had another dog (different breed) and three kids and was having another on the way. The pregnancy was a complicated one.

Addie was nine months at the time and the family just couldn't give her the time, love and attention she needed. She was crate trained (for the most part) but not potty trained at all.

She's the type of dog that needs constant attention because of all the mischief she gets into.
She came home with me covered in fleas and with no knowledge of what outside was for.

I spent a month sleeping on the couch with her during her potty training, but it was absolutely worth it.

Now she's a perfect little angel ... sort of.

OMG-- no flip flops are safe with Milo around either. Must be the smell of the rubber or something.

He has "altered" at least six pair.

The only thing he's ever chewed he isn't supposed to.

I spent a couple months looking for a Yorkie close to me with no real success (also one with little or no price). The pet fee at my apt complex is $600.. So there is no way I could pay another 600 for the dog. I ended up picking up Rupert for $100 + travel expenses. But he had toys food and some stuff like that to help with me paying for him, less expense later. I am currently living in Southern Texas. I was going through classifieds on petfinder one day and found an 11 wk old pup that was up for adoption. For whatever reason the girl said she couldnt handle taking care of a puppy or something. So I drove out to Tulsa, Ok to go pick him up, then drive 8 hours back with him in the car.

He did a great job though, and have had him for one week tomorrow. He has gotten a couple shots sense then, but he didnt like those too much. He is 12 weeks now, and everyone i meet loves him

Yep. Same here. Apparently our pups just have more fashion sense than we do! As much as I adore her alterations I now make sure all flip flops with stuff on them are far out of her reach.

Wow. Rupert was a steal! He is absolutely adorable. I got my Addie in Oklahoma City. I'm so glad you found him! Hopefully the potty training is going more smoothly?

Default Great thread! I love all of your rescue stories!

Bernie's my rescue boy. I feel like I've told his story so many times on here that I should let others have a turn.

Here's a thread I started when we'd had him one year (scroll down for his pics)

and here's his introduction to yt thread

and here's the thread I posted when (gulp) I didn't know he'd be mine and was just trying to help him find a home
(I still cry when I read his story on saveayorkie's website)

Bernie has had some struggles including two surgeries since he came to us. Both were minor but necessary and were direct results of his earlier troubles.

He was incontinent (both bowel and urinary) when we got him, so I know a lot about diapers for male dogs. His bowel incontinence has cleared up unless he is really stressed (so we avoid that, he is really one very laid back little guy) and he lives in belly bands 24/7. He thinks he's stylin'.

Aww, Bernie we love you and I'm so glad we found you. I thank God on a regular basis that you were saved by such a wonderful rescue.

PHOTO 2 and 3
Cole "aka" Widdles, was also being rehomed by a WONDERFUL ~ YT member. It was very hard for his family to rehome him, but they just wanted the best for this little monkey and I am so THANKFUL they trusted us. Cole lives in AZ with my parents, he has 2 yorkie sisters, whom he adores and learns from. He is know as the 'sock-man' - his favorite toy. My Mom says, there is at least 3 socks on the bed at all times.

And finally, the "Senior Gal" whom was at my local animal shelter. She was "deemed" not adoptable, as she was labeled as "ancient" and with a "long laundry list of things wrong with her". I cried and begged them to let me adopt her, and thankfully they did. Well....this sweetheart is FAR from that. Last month, I "adopted" this sweetie from the shelter, while working with a local Yorkie recuse. She went right to the Vet, got teeth cleaned, spayed, mammary tumors removed, groomed and fattened up AND from what I gather, has a WONDERFUL home waiting for her when she recovers....she was my "first" shelter rescue ~ and even though I wasn't 'really' adopting her (just helping get her out of jail), she will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart!

I am sure there will be more to come!
Oh my! Cuddles looks like my Doodlebug! He is adorable

Look at the tail on Widdles! IMO there is nothing better than to see a Yorkie with a tail wagging and a smile on his face. love it!!!!

The little SG is a cutie and she will find a wonderful home that will love her with all their heart.

Thank you for all that you do for the pups and helping to get the word out about the little ones in need of loving homes.

Can I just clarify about rehome? Is that when someone can not for some reason keep their yorkie baby, So you guys take him in as your own?

I think that is right . I find it hard to believe there are so many' rehomes.'

Thank god for people like you.

Great thread by the way .

Default Rescues

All our "kids", both yorkie and non yorkie, have been rescues/shelter pooches. See my album for their pics. We also have had the opportunity to foster yorkies. I try to help out the local yorkie rescue group as much as possible both monetary and time.
