Default Our adoptees/rescues

We have 3 dogs, all adoptions/rescues. Punkin is our Yorkie and newest member of the family. We rescued her from a puppy mill situation in December. She'd been a breeder and had outlived her usefulness as her last litter was only 1 puppy. We've had some adjustments as she had no idea what it was like to be held, petted or loved and we've worked very hard on getting rid of bad habits (like eating her own feces) but she's doing very well. We've been looking for another Yorkie as a companion for Punkin, unfortunately I've not had much luck finding one that is affordable.

We also have Bear who is a Maremma. He's a 125 lb guardian dog. A local farmer had a huge litter of pups several years ago (12 of them!) and was giving the puppies away. I'm not sure where my brain was when I saw this tiny ball of white fluff and noticed his dad standing at the gate looking over the top of it at me, but it didn't occur to me Bear would grow so large. He's a gentle giant, however, and quite a spoiled old man. We've had Bear 11 years now. In retirement all Bear guards these days is me.

Last, but certainly not least, is Maggie. She's a brown dog of quite questionable lineage who we brought home one day after stopping at another local farm. They had a huge group of puppies laying on a bed of hay and they were covered in fleas and other eewy stuff. My husband chose Maggie, we put her in a box we had in the truck with us, brought her home and immediately gave her 3 baths...it took that many to get rid of the fleas and clean her up. She's been a loyal and loving girl. We've had Maggie 12 years now. She and Bear are happily living the remainder of their lives in retirement. They've got the Ritz-Carlton of dog compounds with 2 1/2 acres to run and play...okay walk and lay in the shade.
