| ![]() I had Chloe microchipped when she was spayed. I will definitely say go for it. You never know...I feel it will increase the chance having her return to me if she ever get lost. |

And honestly, I've not heard of that many cases of a microchipped dog being returned due to their mircochip. I'm sure it has happened, just as it has that dogs with tags and/or tattoos have been returned. Basically I think lost dogs are all at the mercy of whomever finds them and if they going to return them, they will regardless of the dogs identification method.

| ![]() I read on either this forum or another one of a dog who was found, but the original owners never registered their dog with the microchip company, so they don't know who the owner is ![]()

| ![]() I have both my dogs microchipped. Why? well, why not? I have not seen any proof not to do so. When I was 5 my mom took me to a police fair and had me fingerprinted. Why? Just in case (Heaven forbid) I got lost, abducted or hurt and had no ID on me as a child. I would hate to have anything happen to my dogs, but at least with the microchip implanted, if someone else claims that my babies are their babies, I can fight them with legal recourse. Is it not likely my dogs will get away without any ID tags on them, no. But there is always a slim chance. Cars have VINs, I know that is not a living thing, but there is a reason we need to prove things belong to us. Yes, it is a personal choice. The cost is not prohibitive--- $30-40 maybe. Small price to pay for peace of mind. If I found a dog, that is the first thing I would do --- have the dog scanned. Just my 2¢ ...

Also, in our area, once microchipped you can license them for life. No more annual licensing needed.

| ![]() I deceided NOT to micro chip Buddy for a several reasons. 1. Some vet's don't even check for microchipping. 2. I read an article indicating health risks up the road. 3. The pain indured by the dog 4. Buddy is NEVER without me. 5. He wears tags and if lost an honest person would call a dishonest person will remove the tags. If microchiped a dishonest person will not go to a vet and have the dog checked to begin with. They are my reasons. |

| ![]() It's interesting to hear reasons why most of you don't do microchipping, I never thought there were really any cons to it. I haven't gotten Rocky or Bella microchiped yet, I planned to get Rocky done when he was nuetered, but I was so worried about that I totally forgot to tell the vet to. Bella I plan on doing when she gets spayed, and I plan on getting Rocky done in the next couple of months too. I guess I still plan on getting them done because you never know. When I go out the door in my house I sometimes have to double check and make sure Rocky and Bella are still inside, that they didn't sneak out. Plus what if they ever do get lose, for whatever reason and I can't find them. Not only that, with yorkie theft being so high, if anything did ever happen to them I want to know I have proof that they are mine.

| ![]() This is an interesting thread, as I too, was on the fence for some time. We finally went ahead and had both dogs chipped (I've read too many stories about dogs stolen/lost etc...and like the idea of having a permanent way of identifying that the dog is mine) I found this site. Healthypet.com Now it is obviously pro microchipping, but it addressses a lot of questions. Personally, I think that at this time there is no right or wrong. If you are comfortable with it, go for it. If not, don't.

| ![]() I think I will still do it, $40 is not that much to pay for my piece of mind and for that amount he will have it his entire life! You never know the circumstances where someone might scan for the chip, even if your dog was stolen. It might hurt a little bit but I have gone through much worse without anesthesia. Also I had to take my 10 month old baby daughter to the emergency room and had to see her get blood drawn and get a catheter put it. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to see but it was for her own good. |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | ![]() the only reason i havent done it yet is because the vets here dont even bother scaning half the time the other day a lady found a dog & called the vet & they didnt even mention bring it in to get scanned that the first thing they should have said to do so unless someone is says scan this dog its usless if someone steals your dog the vet wont scan it unless you want them 2 i think ALL vets should scan ALL new patients & they MUST match up with the owner other wise theres almost no point of them |

Donating YT 11K Club Member | ![]() I am one of them. I think it's a good thing and my last dog was microchipped but im not sure i want to do it because i read something once about it causing cancer. Also i don't like putting things in their bodies that don't belong there cause i dont know what kind of affect it will have on them. Sophie is the only one microchipped because her previous owner did it and im okay with that. I'm just a little scared to do it to Teddy and London.

| ![]() Well, since I just sent Monty home based on the fact that his owner knew his microchip number; I would say it is an invaluble tool to help safegaurd your dog. Monty's mom did not have the chip registered, but did know the number. I did not want to just give him to anyone that called so asked her for the number. What a great way to prove this was the true owner! I am calling my vet tomorrow to get Preston in to be neutered, puppy teeth pulled, and microchipped. |

| ![]() My Max was 3lbs and it didn't phase him at all. Abby had it done too and although vets may not automatically check, if I was to ever lose Alphy I would make sure every vet in my area and then some new that if someone brought in a yorkie that was a new client or a new dog to them that they knew to scan it for possibly being stolen. Being chipped I think gives you better odds for a chance of recovery. If your pet is picked up by the shelter they would scan for an owner. When I adopted Abby she was found as a stray. Purebred Golden, no chip but she had tags, downside was that the number associated to her tags was disconnected. So another thing to remember is to keep your registration up to date. For those that said it shifted, how did you know? I didn't think you could feel them.
