Monty's mom did not have the chip registered, but did know the number. I did not want to just give him to anyone that called so asked her for the number.

Oh, that's wonderful!!!! I was thinking of you when I was reading this thread. To me that's the thing. If they run off and get taken in by a well-meaning person (and I believe a lot of those people are out there) then the microchip could save the day!!!
