| You have to let me know!!!! Say the "No barking".... Then Violent Shake!!!!! Not at the same time.... The need to ne two seperate actions... that way the "no barking" alone can be enough.... cause if that stops them, you won't need the can... he'll learn that if he stops at the "NB" he can avoid the earth shattering can shake! And he'll stop!!!!!! He's not stupid!!! My girls picked up on it pretty quick! I am amazed!!!!! I can't wait to hear!!! And only 10 pennies!!!

| SILENCE AT LAST!!!!!! I didn't think it was going to work the first couple times. I took him out of time out, and right away he started barking. So I followed your instructions, he stopped for a couple seconds, then started again. BUT, after a couple repetitions, no more barking! YAYYYY!!! Now on to doggie boot camp for the potty training. Thanks for the tip, I really appreciate it! Hopefully the hardcore crate training will do wonders for both of us.

| Hey there Katheryn. Hang in there. Yorkies are tough to train, especially the females. I think they are more spiteful then anything. LOL. I have three Yorks (one male and two females). All three took over a year to potty train and quite honestly the females are not 100 percent trained and they are three and two. My male on the other hand does not do a thing in the house ever. The girls are about 99 percent trained, but they still do pee once in a while. Oh and did I mention when you shut them out of a room, they'll bang on the door and if you don't open it - they'll leave a small package in front of it. LOL. The little green carpet machine works well. I can't live without mine. Like you I refuse to live in pee. I'm forever shampooing. Just keep working with them. I does get better, but it's really rare for a Yorkie to potty train under a year and if they are really tiny, it takes longer as their bladders are very small. Good Luck. | Just another thought on the rugs, I didn't see it mentioned in this thread... using a carpet treating liquid, like Nature's miracle to help neutralize the pee odor is a good idea. I have a cat that gets a urinary tract infection every 12-18 mos and she points this out by peeing not in the litter box. The nature's miracle comes to the rescue every time. Because with 8 cats, that one little accident can become a slippery slope to pee pee rug land. I have also used it with water directly in my steam cleaner. Teresa |

| Maddie just turned one and i am as desperate as anything. She is a little better with me being very strict on her food/water intake and not leaving it out. But she is still having accidents like i said before, we had to just rip out ALL the carpet because we couldn't take it anymore!! and now our house is FREEZING but we are scared to get throw rugs- cause we all know how that ends! but thanks for the 10 cent idea- cause all of a sudden she is a crazy barker! and i cant take it anymore!!!!!!!

| throw rugs As for the throw rugs. DON'T DO IT!!!!! When I first got Molly she thought every soft thing on the floor was for pottying. She even peed on a paper towel that had fell in the floor. So I took all of the rugs up and washed them. She is good to go to the pad every time. She will poop next to it if there it a pee pee spot already there.I thought we were home free so last week I bought a new rug to go in front of the kitchen sink. Molly panced her fanny right over and peed right on it. So I say No to rugs. We Just wear socks all the time. That hard wood is chilly on the toes.

| Must be time to invest in a carpet cleaner! It would be cheaper in the long run. |

|
When I crate trained the boyz I kept them in their crates for about an hour at first, then take them out to potty, bring them in and play for a few minutes and then back in the crates. As they got better and a bit older I kept them in for longer periods, then out to potty, bring them in and play a bit and so on. They slept in their crates at night also. I kept them in the living room with us so they could see and hear us and they wouldn't feel abandoned in another room. I do keep a pad in a litter pan inside for emergencies when we're gone and they use that but other than that they're good. Good luck with your girls.
i have a question, when you are out did you let the free in some room and that is why you have a pee-pad? i just recently got a yorkie and i am training him on the pee-pad. i have him in the laundry room in a crate and in the morning i go in there let him out and he goes and finds the pee-pad .. he is getting kinda good at it except for today i moved his crate out because i needed to fix it and he pooped where the crate was! once he pees and poops i give him a treat bring him out to play for a couple of mins and then back in the crate .. i too leave him in the crate with me in the living room. i'm just wondering if i am doing it right or not? thanks .. any advice and tips are greatly appreciated.

Oh my god! I have to try this...my trainer had me bang on the crate, but that did not work. He then told me to get seperation anxiety drugs (nice trainer). I've now just been leaving him out bc my neighbors will kill me. I have to try this... thanks so much for the info. | |

| We've had two "accidents" in the last week. One was when I left my bathmat down in the bathroom (that one's my fault) and then this morning she went about a foot away from a BRAND NEW CLEAN PAD!!! I was so mad & she knew it too. That's the first time she's done that in a long time. And I'm going to try the can thing for barking.

| Training Inch by Inch Start with crating at night. They must be able to hold their pee all night. That will give you some indiction of their capability to hold their urine. Remember, the crate must NOT allow them room to move around. Only enough room to sleep. If they whine in the night..GET UP AND TAKE THEM OUT AND RETURN THEM TO THE CRATE. 2. Don't free feed and water while training. Set specific times and if they refuse to eat and drink, PICK IT UP! They wait until lunch time. Eventually, they will eat and they will know to eat when it's put in front of them. AND....ABSOLUTELY NO WATER AFTER 8 p.m. 3. NEVER NEVER NEVER....leave them unsupervised. If they are not in your arm, outside, or in a confined area, such as the kitchen during play, PUT THEM IN THE CRATE!. They can be in the same room, but no running around freely!!! 4. Everytime they come out of the crate, PICK THEM UP and take them outside to the same spot (on a leash) Do not let their feet touch the carpet. It will be the feel of the grass that queues them to pee. NOT THE CARPET. Be patient and PRAISE!. You can also use treats. As you think they are progressing, the periods out of the crate get longer BUT keep them in the kitchen! They see your house like a football field. They need smaller areas to learn that this is their den and you don't pee in it. NO PEE PADS, NO Diapers...always outside in the same spot. Start with every 30 minutes until you can get a handle on specific times they pee and poo. Hope this helps. It work for me...We still have an accident once in a great while, but only because I forget the time and get busy. cooper doesn't bark, just sits by the door, so if I am not around, MY FAULT. He is now 9 months old and has free roam of the house from 7 a.m. to noon when i come home from work to let him out and from 1 to 4 p.m. Walks before and after work and play time. Good luck |
