Introducing a Kennel So my question is how to transition miss Bella from a Pen to a Kennel. I have to fly her back home in a few months and she is currently only trained to stay in a pen. I was thinking of just placing the kennel in the pen and putting her bedding in the kennel so she feels comfortable sleeping in it. Anyone have experience with this? Suggestions..

My Bella is 5 months old, and sleeps in a pen area too. We are taking Puppy Kindergarden classes, and the trainer advised to start feeding Bella in her crate to make sure the crate is a pleasant experience and not for punishment. Also, I place treats inside the crate for her. In the next week, I am going to start placing her in the crate for 15 minutes a day, and increasing the time each week up to a few hours. Kind of easing her into it and getting her used to it. Hope that helps

We have always used a kennel at night for any puppies/adult dogs we have owned. Also whenever we leave the house for any length of time, all we have to do is say "Get in the box" and away they go. Our newest little one would rather go with us but if it is impractical to take her - I usually have to put her in the box. When I say~~ get in the box - she will run and hide. Funny how she knows the word "box" Keeping them in a kennel when away also seems to alleviate the separation anxiety.

| Give her a treat when she goes in there. Feed her in there and throw her toys in there and let her go fetch them. Put all the good things in there. Loki knew he got a treat for going in the crate so it didn't take much to teach him a "crate" command. He also has a car seat and likes to be in that in the car. I think dogs naturally like to be in small spaces with their own stuff, so just start practicing and she will be fine.

What about her pen? No more pen? She sleeps in there and is put in there when I leave for any amount of time. She is now comfortable with the pen, so I dont want to screw her up. Place the new kennel in the pen? Have it around the house and feed her in it? Should I start with leaving the door open then slowly shut it for short periods?
