| Crate training was a big flop for me. I read up on it and thought I would master it. I did put her in a room with linoleum when I went out. She would be in there for hours and not go, so now Penny has full run on the house, she hangs close to me most of the time. Now the problem is when she does go inside, I never catch her. Its mostly if she gets up in the night, but not all the time. She sleeps with me, but I do not always here her. The problem is I dont always find it unless I step in a wet spot. She also poops too, out of site. Its hard to correct her if you can't catch her in the act. She is doing pretty well otherwise. I keep putting off getting the rug cleaned hoping she will stop before I do. (She will be 2 in Jan.) Do you think if I get the rug cleaned and get the odor out she will stop? |

| I'm definitely going to try the can thing. My husband thinks she barks too much, but she doesn't do it constantly. She will stop when I tell her no bark, briefly. She is not nearly as bad as some of the stories I have read on this thread. Dogs do bark, its normal. I want her to bark when someone first comes, because my house is tight and I don't usually here anyone come. (Good guard dog) right? |

| I PUT MY BABY, ALONG WITH HER CRATE IN THE CLOSET BUT WITH MY KIDS BABY GATE BETWEEN THE DOORS SO SHE CAN SEE WHATS GOING ON..HER BED IS OUTSIDE OF THE CRATE AND IT SEEMS TO BE WORKING SO FAR. SHE SEES THE CRATE AS HER PLACE TO DO HER BUISNESS. SHE WENT IN THERE 3 TIMES TODAY AND MAY I ADD I JUST STARTED THIS TODAY. CROSSING MY FINGERS.

| Breny~ that's good info about the oxyclean...I've got 2 cats and one is always "urping". I'm going to try that in the bottle...great idea . Kathryn, I know this won't make you feel much better, but Max will do the same thing sometimes...I leave the back sliders open a lot of the time if I'm home, just so he can run out to the back if he wants. And he's very good first thing in the morning or just after he's fed in the morning (I free feed dry and give him 1/6 cup of canned morning and evening), but if I leave the guest room door open....I ALWAYS find a pee spot or he's pooped. Luckily, with the diet he's on, his poops are really dry most of the time, so easy to pick up. But it's so annoying when he KNOWS to go outside, and has easy access to go outside, but chooses for some reason to go in the guest room. He did the same thing at the last house we were in.....I don't know if it's b/c other dogs have been in there or what, but I also just noticed that he 'marked' one of the blankets I have covering the sofa in the cat's room . Very annoying. I know that when we first took him up to the Napa Valley (Christmas time) it was so cold and rainy, which he wasn't used to and he was NOT happy to have to go potty outside where it was cold and wet! We were staying with my mom and stepdad (who has ADD, I think) and I told him to be sure he closed all the bedroom doors so that Max couldnt' get in there first thing in the morning...so what does he do? He left the office door open and of course, Max ran in there (he was so little then, and so fast, LOL), pooped, and ran back out like nothing had gone on....but of course...WHO steps in it? My stepdad . We almost died laughing over that. Well he DID have socks on, but he was horrified. I'm sorry...I'm a nurse, that stuff is unpleasant, but not the end of the world, LOL. Well, one end, I guess Hope you can get the girls trained; I'm still working on it. They say not to scold them, and I can understand if you're gone FOREVER and they HAVE to go, but it's really aggravating when you take them out, stay out for a long time and then they just wait til they're somewhere soft and warm to do their business! On one hand, can you blame them? On the other hand......??????? Good luck. Keep us posted!

| Penny~ I'm not sure that you can really get that smell out at least as far as the dog goes. WE may not smell it, but I think dogs can still smell it somehow. My Max sleeps with us, but I know he sleeps all night, he can't get down from our bed anyhow; it's too high and we don't have a ramp for him. He's a really good sleeper. My vet told me that lots of people say that their dog sleeps all night and they really don't, but Max really does. He's right next to my butt, preventing me from turning without moving him first, LOL. I wouldn't have it any other way though. I don't know what the answer is; Max goes outside most of the time, but if certain places are open to him, he goes in there. If the door is closed to that room, no problem. It's interesting to say the least And, as far as the barking goes, Max barks when he hears someone in the yard or at the front door. And he really does hear things I don't....someone just came to the front door to stick a business card in and he heard it immediately; I heard nothing! But I went to the door just to humor him, and opened it and there was a card stuck in the handle! Max doesn't bark unless it's someone that he thinks is breaching the security of our home or occasionally will growl at some people (usually little boys, hehe). I think a dog that barks when someone comes up to your house is a GOOD thing, but it's also good if they stop once you've let the person inside, hehe.

| Can Trick Hey guys, I'm brand new at this, just joiined today. I've never heard of the can trick before but it sounds like a winner. I have a 3 month old who will get so upset in her crate that she gives herself diarrea! What a mess and she's so loud! Believe me, when Cricket isn't happy, everyone knows Cricket isn't happy. Sometimes she even sounds like a peacock. I'll have to try the can thing and see if it will shut her up an keep her calm so she doesn't make herself sick. Tami |

| Peeing & Pooing I just sold my first litter and when prospective buyers asked I told the truth. I don't find these little dogs easy to house train! There are some exceptions I know like Remi who at 4 monthes old usually goes in her litter box but over the years I have had sneaks who go under the bed and behind doors, under pillows on the couch (figure that one out!) and I have one now that poos almost everytime I put her in her crate. She could have just gone an hour ago but she must go in the crate! Connor is perfect all day at work and comes home to poo on his favorite rug, so I rolled the rug up! It's a constant battle but eventually it will be won (for the most part). They sure are cute though! And did I mention sweet (nothing like yorkie kisses)! |

| I bought a carpet shampooer when I got Lucy, but I am having my carpet taken out and wood floors put down this Tuesday.(in the living/dining room and hallway) She does well with pee pads, but seems to always miss the pad when she does #2! Since I got Rebel, I decided the wood floors made better sense. Also, when ya'll shampoo your carpet, you might try putting about 1/4 c of white vinegar in with the cleaning solution to neutralize odor.

| Hey the can thing is working amazingly. She shuts right up. We had tree cutters out on our street the other day, right out front of our house. After the can a couple of times, she just sat and watched them. |
