2. Don't free feed and water while training. Set specific times and if they refuse to eat and drink, PICK IT UP! They wait until lunch time. Eventually, they will eat and they will know to eat when it's put in front of them. AND....ABSOLUTELY NO WATER AFTER 8 p.m.
3. NEVER NEVER NEVER....leave them unsupervised. If they are not in your arm, outside, or in a confined area, such as the kitchen during play, PUT THEM IN THE CRATE!. They can be in the same room, but no running around freely!!!
4. Everytime they come out of the crate, PICK THEM UP and take them outside to the same spot (on a leash) Do not let their feet touch the carpet. It will be the feel of the grass that queues them to pee. NOT THE CARPET. Be patient and PRAISE!. You can also use treats.
As you think they are progressing, the periods out of the crate get longer BUT keep them in the kitchen! They see your house like a football field. They need smaller areas to learn that this is their den and you don't pee in it.
NO PEE PADS, NO Diapers...always outside in the same spot. Start with every 30 minutes until you can get a handle on specific times they pee and poo.
Hope this helps. It work for me...We still have an accident once in a great while, but only because I forget the time and get busy. cooper doesn't bark, just sits by the door, so if I am not around, MY FAULT.
He is now 9 months old and has free roam of the house from 7 a.m. to noon when i come home from work to let him out and from 1 to 4 p.m. Walks before and after work and play time. Good luck | Wow, great advice! Thanks for sharing!
