| Awww I feel your pain. I never crate trained Murfee so I can't give you advice on how long it takes. I potty trained him to go outside. I really had good luck with it.

also i'm guessing that she is just a puppy righT? she isn't used to being confined alone like that.. she is used to her mom and dad and siblings.. so take her out and comfort her.. give her a treat for being such a good girl. and play... then take her out again... and let her nap/eat. | I'd take her out. Ellie was never crate trained and she knows where to potty but very often just doesn't do what she is supposed to. You know, it is annoying but I'd rather her "forget" where she is supposed to go and enjoy herself then keep her in a crate most of the day. I got a puppy so I could be with her and play with her. That doesn't happen if they are in a crate. I know that is the preferred method and I might use it someday, but it seems very sad.

| If she is crying till throwing up, its too much for her to handle. Did you clean all her previous pee spots with white vinegar/whatever commercial products for that purpose so that there is no smell to attract her back to it?

| Sammy is a drama queen with her crate. She sleeps in it by choice, with the door open, for most of the day. But oh my gosh put her in there when she doesn't want to be and it's a temper tantrum. Sometimes I put her in there and she just chills. Sometimes she throws a fit! (Oh and if she knows you are leaving and not taking her - watch out! But we've checked and as soon as there is no one to listen to her, she stops, imagine that!) It's improved a LOT since we first got her, but we just took it slowly and praised her when she was quiet. I would give it a few more days before completely giving up! Try giving her a stuffed Kong when she goes in there to keep her busy. Then she will learn the crate is a good thing!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | When I got Roxie 5 week ago at 4 months she wasn't in the leasr trained. For 2 weeks I was too free with letting her run with the others thinking I was watching her close enough. Wrong. I would put her on the pads every 1/2 hour and she would look at me like Iwas nuts. i really thought she may have mental issues she just did not get it. So I decided to be tough, which is hard for me and whenever I can't watch her in the crate she goes. As soon as she comes out of the crate I put her on the pads. It took about 3 days until she finally got the idea. When she potties on the pad she gets a treat and she has free run of my room where me and the other dogs hang out or the house if I am not in my room for a couple hours. She finally is going to the pad on her own after 2 weeks and doing much better. She still has to be watched closely as she still has accidents but it is so much better. It is hard to do but sometimes you have to. She whines for a bit in there but settles down pretty good. Hang in there it will get better.

| I gave up on crate training! But I am a total softy! Addison and Brady have free roam of the house while I'm gone and we seldom have accidents. I have however lost some great shoes and books to the littel monsters! We use Natures Miracle potty pads and they work wonderful. I still take them out when I am home, and I find that unless I am gone for a few hours they will hold it until I am home! Good luck with what ever you decide.

| i too am not doing the crate training. i agree with ellie may... i got her to play with her and enjoy her and i know shed be miserable in the crate and i just wont get to enjoy being around ehr if she was in there.. it just seems mean. i take her to the pads when she gets up in the morning, after she naps, after a big play and after she eats and before bed... ive done this since day one... she caught on quickly and now only pees on the paper and we are working on the pooing. she sometimes goes by herself to poo on the pad and othertimes not.. but she is only 12 weeks now so i cant expect her to be perfect yet |

| Don't give up on it, seriously. If this is what you want to do, there are ways to do it so she isnt getting so upset and you can get stuff done. First, I dont think i would put her in their if you are in the room with her. Put her in another room first so she doenst see you and get so upset. If of course, you have things to do and can't watch her. And I would do it in short bursts first. 30 min/1 hour get some stuff done take her out praise her play with her for 15/30 min and then again get some stuff done. Like others have said, take her out every hour. Take treats outside with you and as soon as she goes to the bathroom praise and treat!! She probably won't get it right away but very soon. Keep an eye on her in the house when out of the crate and keep her confined to the area you are in where you can see her the whole time. If you catch her in the act, a stern no works great. Obviously, theres nothing you can do after the fact. Just clean up and know that in about an hour take her out again. Does she only have enough room to turn around and lay down in her crate? Any extra room and they will end up going in their crate anyway and it kinda defeats the purpose. I learned that lesson the hard way with my first dog. When you aren't home or at night, she goes in the crate. I don't know if you have had her in her crate at night yet but if not it will be a little rough at first but within the week, she will learn. If you haven't PM me and I can give you tips for that also.

| This may sound silly but I watched the dog wisperer deal with this issue! He said to put the dog in and close the door for a few seconds the first time and then let them out and pet them. Then repeat this over and over slowly increasing the time in the crate. ( Like 5 min, 15 min, 30 min, and so on)That way they know that you are coming back for them! He also said every now and then throw a short stay in there like after you get them out from an hour stay put them back in for only 5 minutes, he said it helps them to understand that they aren't always going to be left for a long period of time. It makes sense! Hope this helps!

| BTW I'm a sucker too.......my dogs have a room, not a crate! I just couldn't do it! But it isn't inhumane for those who do.... I think its just a personal choice! I do have one dog that I wish I would have done this with!!
