This may sound silly but I watched the dog wisperer deal with this issue! He said to put the dog in and close the door for a few seconds the first time and then let them out and pet them. Then repeat this over and over slowly increasing the time in the crate. ( Like 5 min, 15 min, 30 min, and so on)That way they know that you are coming back for them! He also said every now and then throw a short stay in there like after you get them out from an hour stay put them back in for only 5 minutes, he said it helps them to understand that they aren't always going to be left for a long period of time.
