| ![]() The Lepto shot scares me. Jackson, who I brought home at 9 weeks old, and had only received 1 set of shots (DHPP) at 8 weeks old (before coming home to me) ... so I took him into the vet for his 2nd set of shots at 12 weeks old. I totally just trusted the vet and didn't ask questions. She gave him DHLPP and during this shot, he flipped out. I had never him scream/yell so loud but I thought it was normal for shots. We got home about 10 mins later and Jackson came up, was acting really funny, and he started puking. He puked like 3x and it was a lot. Then he started wobbling around like he was disoriented. I called the vet right away and told them and they said to bring him right back in... so I did. At that point, he was not really able to walk, and was shaking soooo bad. You'd have thought he had just fallen in a frozen river or something. He had no control of his back legs. I was freaking out and thought I was losing my new puppy. The vet gave him some kind of steroid injection to kind of reverse the shot. They told me it was most likely lepto he reacted to. I was freaking, wondering WHY they hadn't warned me of this. He was really shaky and out of it until 2 days later, poor guy. I was super scared. Mind you, Jackson was already 6lbs at 12 weeks old, so he was *not* a tiny little guy when getting this shot. I will never give him Lepto again and was pretty pissed when I came home and googled and saw all over the place that lepto is not recommended for small dogs. The vets also told me never to give it to him again. So even though we live on 3acres, with 90 acres of farmland behind us with deer constant, I would never wanna risk that again. He did absolutely fine with the DHPP and Rabies (given on seperate days) although I did give benadryl before the rabies to be safe.

| ![]() http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...ml#post3127531 Ok am i reading this right???? As this is not a fun day first heartworm now this? Is this saying in California we will have to vaccinate our dogs yearly for rabies? If so I am moving as i think this could be a ploy to raise money for the state at the detriment of dogs health since our state is in alot of financial trouble. I am hoping i am reading this wrong ![]() Help any feedback? |

| ![]() ok found out more on the rabies in california here is jean's response here is jeans response to the bill and my questions - i told her i was counting on her lollll Dear Deb: The provisions of AB 2689 have been changed, due to pressure put on them by the RCF and CDOA. See below. Jean The second bill, AB 2689, we oppose. We are against the bill because if the State Public Health Officer determines that an area is a "rabies area" (perhaps because an extra skunk or racoon is confirmed with rabies), then dogs will be required to be vaccinated annually [not so; it allows veterinarians to elect to recommend annual booster revaccination, if they so desire]instead of once every 3 years and will be required to be vaccinated against rabies at 3 months instead of at 4 months– that was removed. The Local Government Committee phone is (916) 319-3958. Just want to make sure we do not go to 1 year for rabies No; we [RCF + followers] won’t let that happen. I am counting on you to make sure that does not happen. No pressure |

| ![]() Someone just posted this on another group about Texas law- LJ can you confirm on this as i think this is why Judy in Waco is having the 1 year requirement The State of Texas has adopted the 3-year rabies vaccination timetable; however, TX law states that any municipality may adopt a more frequent schedule and that municipal law will supercede state law on this issue. http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.u...pdf/HS.826.pdf So xxxxxx city may have gone in stride with the state while xxxxxx town may have adopted a local ordinance requiring a 1-year rabies vaccination schedule. http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.u...pdf/HS.826.pdf I took out their names but wanted to get your take on this since you live there as to if this is what may be happening in Texas? |

| ![]() Yes, that's exactly what's happening with us. Our vet has a chart that has city names and the requirements. His office is five minutes from me, but his city is three years and mine is every year. ![]() Next year I'm going to ask about a waiver for small dogs or consider risking the fine.
