The Lepto shot scares me. Jackson, who I brought home at 9 weeks old, and had only received 1 set of shots (DHPP) at 8 weeks old (before coming home to me) ... so I took him into the vet for his 2nd set of shots at 12 weeks old. I totally just trusted the vet and didn't ask questions. She gave him DHLPP and during this shot, he flipped out. I had never him scream/yell so loud but I thought it was normal for shots. We got home about 10 mins later and Jackson came up, was acting really funny, and he started puking. He puked like 3x and it was a lot. Then he started wobbling around like he was disoriented.

I called the vet right away and told them and they said to bring him right back in... so I did. At that point, he was not really able to walk, and was shaking soooo bad. You'd have thought he had just fallen in a frozen river or something. He had no control of his back legs. I was freaking out and thought I was losing my new puppy. The vet gave him some kind of steroid injection to kind of reverse the shot. They told me it was most likely lepto he reacted to. I was freaking, wondering WHY they hadn't warned me of this. He was really shaky and out of it until 2 days later, poor guy. I was super scared.

Mind you, Jackson was already 6lbs at 12 weeks old, so he was *not* a tiny little guy when getting this shot. I will never give him Lepto again and was pretty pissed when I came home and googled and saw all over the place that lepto is not recommended for small dogs. The vets also told me never to give it to him again. So even though we live on 3acres, with 90 acres of farmland behind us with deer constant, I would never wanna risk that again.

He did absolutely fine with the DHPP and Rabies (given on seperate days) although I did give benadryl before the rabies to be safe.
