I've noticed Bella's been peeing inside the house OFTEN even though we take her out for walks. She's never had accidents inside the house. When we leave her alone, we leave her in our room with a pee pad and she normally goes on it which she still does. When we let her roam the house, she'll pee in random places. Can this be the cause of her meds or her condition?

Yes it is caused by the pred as it makes them drink more water. I called my vet today about the Omeprizole, he doesn't have Sassys dose but he looked it up in his ref book and said a 4 1/2 lb dog could safely take 10 mg a day and I'm almost possative that's what she took. 1/4 tab in am and 1/4 tab in pm. So I put a call into WSU and they are going to find her records and call me hopefully tomorrow. How is Bella today ? did you call about her Omep dose ? I'm sure she's not getting enough.

She hasn't been drinking water for weeks now and I was concerned until someone said that the wet L/D food I'm feeding her now has more moisture in it than the dry food I was feeding her before. Do you think it's because she does need to go out more often now to potty or is it because she can't control her bladder anymore?

We called and talked to the neuro today. He said she's fine with the dosage she's on and doesn't think it's a good idea to up the dose because too much can cause stomach cancer. He said more of the dosage wouldn't decrease the fluid any more than what it is doing now.

I would absolutely be getting a second opinion. Sometimes you have to take the bad with the good. If she doesn't have good quality of life with what he's doing now I would insist the dose be changed. If the dose is upped you should be able to tell in a couple of days weather it's working.

I read how it's not safe for them to be on omeprizole for more than 8 weeks and that's probably why the neuro is having us do 3 weeks then 1 week off and so on. How long was Sassy on omeprizole?

I think I'll stick to the recommended dosage for now just to be safe. My husband actually talked to the neuro and when I asked him again, he said the neuro said we could if we wanted to BUT it wouldn't make a difference since if it's going to lower csf production already then more dosage wouldn't do much more.

Sassy was on it for 6 yrs. And I'm not buying that otherwise I would think WSU would have had Sassy on a lower dose in the beginning as well. When she started her meds it only took around 2 days to notice a huge diff in her attitude and mobility. And Bella is not responding so fast , is she ?

Bella's had more energy. Like I said before, she's actually able to go up the stairs now because before she'll flop to the right side. I guess there are little improvements but not anything drastic. What were the changes you were seeing in Sassy? Maybe I'm missing something or it's not obvious to me.

She was 95 % her old self in just a couple of days. It is my understanding they will never be perfect again . The only thing Sassy did occasionally and only on excitement was the neck scratching thing. I also don't believe it was from pain I think it was more of a nerve thing, like a twitch. Some sites say it could be from pain. WSU said there is really no way to tell. After seeing it for 6 yrs and seeing what brought it on I believe it was not pain. I'm praying Bella can recover to the extent that Sassy did and have many more years of good quality of life. I will tell you I thanked God for everyday I had with her as it can be cut short at any moment. Sassy was truly a Little Miracle. And I thank God for WSU.

You really really really neeeed to keep her off those stairs. You need to treat her like a China doll at this point and for the rest of her life as she is very fragile with this condition and 1 accident is all it would take to kill her.

I'm hoping she'll recover too.

There's about 4 steps out on the porch that she would go up when we come back from a potty trip. I know it's only 4 steps but you are right and we should keep her off it.

I just logged on and saw your post about your baby taking prednisone. I take it myself for an autoimmune disease and when ever you are on it they can't just stop it. At least for humans they must lower the dosage slowly so that you don't have ill effects coming off of it. I would call the vet and let them know about her symptoms.

Yes , she will be on pred for the rest of her life as this condition does not go away.

Not should keep her off . You have to keep her off. Same with furniture, you have to pick her up and put her on and off all furniture and if she sleeps in your bed the same goes.

I agree 11111110000000%,

You just never know while going up/down steps when a FREAK ACCIDENT can occur. You would feel horrible because of something so simple as carrying her could prevent

Not to mention the jolt her neck takes every time she does it. Stand in the middle of the floor and jump one time and you will see what I mean.
