I need help! Bella's been hitting her head at table corners or any corners around the house. At first I thought it was funny and that she was being clumsy but now I think it might have been the beginning of my worries now. Since yesterday, I've noticed that every time I touch her right side, she'll kind of sit and lend against that side, sort of a way of protecting herself from me touching her. I've also noticed that she's been looking up a lot and tilting her head to the right now. Something's also weird with her walking also, she'll walk straight but her behind would be tilted to the left as she walks. The thing is, she was home by herself for most of the day yesterday so I'm not sure what could have happened...like a seizure of something. I'm afriad it's some brain problems and I'm worried sick. I'm planning on calling the vet on Monday but I would like some input or anything I could ask the vet about. Thanks!

Well, I'm not even sure if she had a seizure or not. I wasn't home and I'm afraid she might have had one.

the other thing is liver shunt as they head press and walk in circles - this sounds more like what you are describing - what protein percentage are you feeding - Portosystemic Shunt (Hepatic Shunt) in Dogs If this was my dog i would get to vet and have cbc panel and bile acids done on monday to first see if liver shunt and then if not i would see a neurologist. I would go in on monday on a 12 hr fast and have them do the cbc panel and the pre-bile acid then bring food with you and do the post get that all done at same time so you can figure this out how old is your dog? if it is liver issue then hopefully vet will put your dog on hill's L/D ,give you lactulose as that will help with toxins and do milk thistle and sam-e or give you (denamrin which is milk thistle and sam-e combined) read those two links and see if either of these sounds like what is going on Last edited by dwerten; 01-23-2010 at 07:15 PM.

Thank you so much for the information. Bella will be 2 yrs old in March. I've actually noticed Bella rubbing her head from side to side on the carpet every once and awhile but I've always thought it was her way of scratching her ears. She doesn't circle around and hasn't vomit or had diarrhea. Something really odd she just did though was when DH had a treat for her and told her to sit, she actually did it but had her back toward him. She's never done that before and it's super strange. Another thing is, she's always been good about getting up into the car when we go somewhere but earlier, when I told her "up" into the car, she was trying to hop up but kept falling sideways until DH picked her up there.

Ok, so I know this is something completely different from what we had thought it could have been but do you think my Bella might be getting blind in her right eye? I'm wondering if that's why she's tilting her head to the right now (so her left eye can see straight), hitting corners, etc. Today I held some rice in my palm for her as "treat" because she loves rice. Anyways, she ate the portion more to her left eye and didn't seem to have seen the other portion. I also called my vet to leave a message about getting in to see them asap on Monday. I'm hoping they would check their messages in the a.m and call me back but I'll also call again in the morning to check. I'm so worried!

Did you get Bella in to see the vet? Praying for a good report or at least a path forward to finding out what's going on.

Bella's update Update: Bella and I just got back from the vet. Her eye seems fine according to the vet so we got some blood work done to see if it's a neurological problem. She was having such a hard time letting the vet turn her on her right side. The vet listed a bunch of stuff that could be a problem but I'm hoping the blood work would show up something so I can get her treated and stop worrying about her. Another thing the vet had said was that it could have been toxin. We have been having ant problems in the house and have been using terro liquid drops for the ants. I'm afraid she had eaten some dead ants or the drops itself so I looked up the ant killer and it had said there wasn't enough toxin in there to harm a pet. Today Bella weighed in 6 lbs so I'm not sure how much toxin is too much for her. We'll get her blood work and fecal results tomorrow. I just want my baby to feel better. Its so hard for me to see her this way.
