| Inverhart Max adverse reaction? Lexi had her dose of INverhart Max 60 hours ago and has been having symptoms of shakiness, sleepiness lethargy. She was on Inverhart Plus last summer and never had this reaction. She is now over the magical 6 lb mark so the vet gave her the Max which includes the tapeworm preventative. I will be calling vet first thing in the morning to report this. Since she has eaten a little today and drank water, gums pink I think this is not an emergency. She just is not feeling well at all, poor baby. You know how you can just tell with them. Anyone else have issues with Inverhart Max? Everything I have read says a reaction can occur up to 72 hours after dosage. Also suggestions for a safer heartworm med would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

| I have no experience with it, but I just looked it up. The thing that concerns me is the cautionary statement about dogs under 10 pounds. Honestly, if it were me, I would call my local Emergency Clinic and ask them what they think. Iverhart Max Chewable Tablets Veterinary Information from Drugs.com

| I don't understand using it for tapeworm preventative. Even if it does do that....the only way a dog will get tapes is by ingesting fleas. If you use a flea preventative you should not have a problem with tapes.

I did call emergency vet and they said highly unlikely that it is the Iverhart. Advised to watch for any swelling or breathing difficulties. Gums are pink and she is hydrated. I will call her regular vet in the AM and watch her close tonight. I still think it is the Iverhart. Is there a good heartworm preventative without the added parasite poisons? Then treat for worms if that occur? | |

There are others you can use. Everyone has a different opinion on these things.

| Can you just go back the Plus instead of the max? The Plus is comparable to Heartgard Plus. Regular Heartgard (not the Plus) is just for heartworms...not intestinal (no pyrantel added). Or Interceptor (or even Sentinel which is Interceptor plus lufeneron to stop fleas from reproducing) is a great product.

| I'm sorry. We use Iverhart Plus and have never had any reactions. Hope she feels better soon.

| Yes we will be going back to the plus. She is much better today. I am rather irritated at the vet for not going over the fact that they were switching her. We were there for the heartworm test! They should not assume that we would agree with whatever they prescribe. I am even thinking the vet tech did the assuming. I will pay more attention in the future and discuss this in person with my vet when we see her in a week for Lexis Lyme booster. If nothing else perhaps someone here will learn there is a big difference in these heartworm meds. I really think the heartworm preventative is a very very good idea, but do we need all the other worming meds with it?? |

I agree. Actually, I don't worry about any worms. I never get them unless it is in a new foster. As for tapes....no fleas = no tapes. Simply use flea control imo. Need it anyway in most places.

I don't either...just another reason to make money I guess. Cannot really think of another reason for making these.

| So now I have been thinking about the Lyme vaccine. Lexi needs to get a booster for this in a few weeks. Why would she need this if she is on the frontline for ticks? I was talking with someone at the local Chuck and Don's (love them) and she was thinking they may have a holistic vet in for a seminar. I think it would be very interesting to hear what she has to say about vaccines and pet meds. |

I changed him back to the Heartgard. According to my vet the pill (Iverhart) is more compressed than the Heartgard and it might have been "too much" (the dosage) for my dog. Hope you figure out what is best for your little one.
