| I do know they can put a stitch in the sheath so it can't come out, but they can still urinate . When you put it back in properly if the tip doesn't stick out then it's not too long. Stitching the sheath gives it time to heal if it's really irritated and he will have to have a cone till the stitch is removed. How is he today, did you get the skin pulled up and the hair out? |

| Maybe you can get one of these: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ne-collar.html I saw them in person at the meetup (very well made and really sturdy, yet soft). He could wear it day and night to help his behavioral issues |

| OMG, I'm so sorry to stay away for so long. I am in TN with Ralphie and Agnes visiting my parents. They don't have a good internet connection yet. Ralphie has not tried to lick since we have been here (since Monday) and he is not acting like it is itching him or irritated. I think that if damage had already been done my vet would have said so. He inspected it pretty thouroughly and said his main concern was what "could" happen if we did not take some action. Thank you soo much Kalina for the advice and the list that you posted. I will definitely follow up on that. I agree that a board certified surgeon would be best if that is not what my vet already is. He needs to go to the best possible place if surgery is the road that we take. Thank you so much everyone for all the prayers and advice!!

| Definitely Behavioral Oh, See it is neurotic behavior. Kinda like a kid with ADHD, I know I was one of those kids. He's on vacation and he's doing fine, he's not bored at this time so no licking. And he's using his hyper energy elsewhere. Definitely behavioral. You need to find something to do to redirect his unspent energy when you get home. Play ball or chase around the house. Mine likes the chase around the house or yard. He gets the Mad Dogs and burns off the energy. |

| This is an old-timey idea...but I'm sure someone will come along and elucidate, if it's a bad one. Over the years, any time I wanted my dogs to leave something alone...I sprayed it with Bitter Apple. It tastes really bad, so they'd not lick or bite whatever it was on. It's been a few years since I've needed or used it...but maybe it could help? Spraying (or wiping) it on the sheath should be enough to keep him away from his little goodie, IMO.

| Actually that's a good idea as long as it doesn't burn hid skin or his little wingy.Maybe you could ask the vet if it's safe to put on him. |

| I've used it on skin...specifically to stop paw licking. (It worked very well.) Dunno about his fine winkie, though. *ahem* That has to be fairly delicate. I'm thinking the sheath alone might do it. The stuff has an odor that might discourage further oral investigation on Ralphie's part....

So yeah, more activity might be exactly what he needs.

| Hey there. I was actually just about to post a little update. Today was a rough wee wee day We got home from out of town on Wednesday and like clockwork his little routine started up. I was able to get him to stop a few times but I would think he was done and turn my head for a minute and there it was, completely out Luckily he got it back in himself the 2 times that it happened. However, this morning I woke up and it was out . So I worked on it for almost 15 minutes and I couldn't get it to go back. So I figured I would go back to sleep for a little longer and check when it was time to get up. So I woke up again and no luck. I worked on my poor little Ralphinators "thingy" all day. I finally got it to go back in with an unbelievable amount of lube (this is embarrassing). So I don't know if I have the power to make him stop. I am literally terrified at this point. I can't be here all day everyday. The last time it happened when I was asleep! So yeah, today was discouraging and scary

| hoping you find a solution omg, you find everything on this forum. I stumbled onto this thread. My maltipoo Baxter does the same thing. I always knew it was a neurotic issue. The situation we got him from wasn't ideal and he became a 'licker'. It has caused him to have chronic UTIs. He licks himself continuously. I say stop and he immediately stops, and then waits until I"m not looking and starts up again. I do notice that once in awhile the tip of his sheath appears swollen and pink pokes out a bit...I had no idea that the problem could escalate to the issues that you are dealing with. Now I know that just occasional courses of antibiotics for the UTIs are the least of my worries and to start watching for something worse and to be more aggressive about curing his behavior. I'll be anxious to see how your situation gets resolved and hope you are able to avoid surgery and if not that your very best furfriend comes through with flying colors.

| Well, I know the subject is funny, but not if it's your pooch. My friend had a Chihuahua with a mega-winkie that hung out all the time. Seriously...he was hugely hung. She basically ignored it and laughed about it...Buddy gave it the occasional lick and that was that. For years! He never suffered from it, and she didn't care. My friend is quite laid back. Maybe we make too much of this stuff because we find it embarrassing...you know??
