| Ann, they came out great!! Love a find like that! I am partial to the middle picture but the last one looks good, too! These are perfect especially for things that need to have a bit of air circulate around them and not in a totally enclosed bin that may cause a musty odor. I so love visiting this thread to see what you guys have found and changed up into lovely pieces!

| So we've been looking for small pendant lights for a year now to hang over our island. Didn't find anything we liked. we even looked at stuff out of our price range, and still nothing we liked. So yesterday we went into one of our favorite thrift shops and found three matching pendants for $10 each. I am repainting them now. They aren't spectactular, but they will do. And for $30 for all three! You can't even get one for that price. This thrift shop gets a lot of architectural salvage, so everything is do dang cheap. They had a huge pile of doors from mansions it seemed bc they were so tall. Like for 10-11' ceilings! $50/pair. Wow. Too bad we can't use any of those. Our ceilings are only 8', those doors were already taller than our ceiling.

We too just bought 3 pendant lights to go over our island - they're really big, so should make a statement. I'm going to use a salvaged board to attach the lights to - then attach the board to the ceiling.

| You ladies are on a roll. I know what you mean about finding pendant lights you like, Capt., after looking and looking I finally bought three for my island and I'm not sure I like them . My kitchen/dining room is all open so I am going to wait until I finish my table to see if it all comes together for me. $10.00 each is a major score!

| YeahI'm still not sure how I will like it when I'm finished painting it. I'm found them steampunk Chile scheme but the pendants are kinda ornate so I'm afraid the metallic colors are gonna make it look too Roman or Caesar ish. I always hate everything I do until I'm done. Ann, great idea about the wood. Can't wait to see how yours turns out. |

Then, I'm just not sure I like these pendants. I'm not used to them being there and they kind of look like they are just hanging there with no purpose, lol. If that makes any sense. Maybe it's the style, I don't know. Try to look past the oak cabinets-all the houses here are oak, LOL and hubby draws the line when I start talking painting them. Ill finish my kitchen with a different light over my sink. Probably a pulley type with Edison lights hanging down and new bar stools.

| I agree with Ann. Since the island doesn't have a sink, it look more like an informal eating area. The pendants highlight the island. We are going to put one of those foot rest bar thingys on our island like they have at bars. Maybe you can put one in that matches the pendants? I'd like to see what you end up with above your sink. (Tesla light! Not Edison light! LOL)

| Basically it's what I call Edison bulbs. I mentioned earlier in this thread how much of a douche Edison was. He stole a bunch of inventors ideas and ran to the patent office and he got the credit and the money. He bribed local children to steal neighborhood pets so he would conduct electrical tests on them (the animals not the kids). He held public demos and electrocuted the animals to discredit Tesla's AC (alternate current) system and make his ideas look dangerous. This killed the animals bc they were so small, but the same system on a human did not harm. You may remember Tesla walking around in a ball of electricity using his AC system? Also our electricity we use now is based off Tesla's idea. Lastly Edison did not invent the light bulb, so surely they should not be called Edison bulbs! Tesla didn't either, but just like him so much more, so I personally call them Tesla bulbs. ![]() This comic puts it in a funny context, but I've read the same book the comic based this cartoon off of. It's much more entertaining than the book. http://theoatmeal.com/comics/tesla

| ModPodge disaster! Have any of you used ModPodge before? On Pinterest it seems like this is a magic medium that works on anything. Well after I drew this octopus I had the idea to mount it on wood. So I used ModPodge. Well not only did I find out that the MP stretched the paper (so now I had to try and stretch all four panels so it would match up), and it wrinkled up the paper leaving bubbles, but ALSO when it dried, the shrunk back up and now I'm left with this big gap! ERGH! IMAG2506.jpg So now I am thinking of doing a dark blue/purple wash over it to look like in the deep ocean and hopefully it will cover up the gap. No way I am drawing another one. I should have just used my trusty spray mount. MP is like kids' craft stuff you'd use for stuff at Michaels. Also I got the matte finish and it's still kinda shiny.
