Great job ! I can't let Toni see this or I know what my next project will be ! Right now she has me putting in recessed shelves (between the studs) and she wants a sliding barn style door to cover it. I'll post pics when it is done.

Ann, after seeing your table, today, Antique Farmhouse has these...
Ooooo, love both of those!

I'd love to see the final result as well. We have only one spot in the house that those could work. We actually took off the regular doors off bc it just opens up the space so much.

It's been a while since I read this thread. Some wonderful ideas and work going on in your homes.

MauiGirl, I can't wait to see what you've done to your kitchen! It must be a blast getting a new kitchen....oh, and a hot guy too! Keep us posted on your progress!

docmartin, looooove the new home!! I love cottage style homes I wish you all the best on the purchase!

Cha Cha I see your doing some painting in your dining room. It may not be your liking but I considered these chairs for my kitchen. But I ened up going with white upholstered chairs thinking since there are no kids here noe it wouldn't be a problem. Wrong!! I wish I had gotten the metal ones now....

Also love the industrial table you made it looks awesome! Great job, I saw one of these in a local furniture store, they wanted about $800 so you saved a bundle doing it yourself and it's just as good!

Ann and Capt Noonie I see your doing some updating too. Really like your projects too!

I've also been doing some work. I've painted the stained spindles and hand rail on my stained staircase white. I painted my oak kitchen cabinet cabinets white also. I had my husband make me the hardware to install some barn doors into the living room. I love it it came out great for first timers!!

I have some more projects to do but I'm feeling like I won't make it before winter, summer is going so fast.

The doors came out great! What hardware did you use? A kit?

Its all grinding through, we have to satisfy the Govt that I'm not a terrorist, washing my money in the sink, or the reincarnation of Adolf Hitler, to everyone, including apparently even the window cleaner. Monday this week, in face of yet another piece of PC gobbledegook I nearly lost the will to live. Then I thought of the two girls playing for long summer days in their totally secure garden, chasing the butterflies and the odious asphyxia of Lawyers slipped into oblivion, where they all belong!

No kit, they seemed pricey....I watched a few videos and read a few blogs so we could piece it together as to what we needed to do. I wanted to use my existing doors because they had the glass so I found a guy on line with the same issue and he explained how he added on 2 inches all the way around the door to fix the problem of the new size needed.

My husband welds so he knows a little about metals. He ordered in two 12 foot piece of flat iron. He cut one down to about 9 foot for the track and used the remaining to make the straps, the end pieces in the track (so the door has something to bump against and wont roll off the end) and he made the brackets that go at the bottom so the door doesn't push out if someone pushed on them. He used some of the metal and bent it to fit the wheels. It all got painted with Rustoleum metal paint in satin.

I'm glad a read quite a few blogs because a lot of people were saying to use the wheels used for garage door at the hardware store. Those wheels are flat across so I wasn't understanding how this would work right an that track. After more research I finally had someone mention the wheels have to have a "V" groove so it doesn't wobble. I think we put about less than $100 into it.

Awww...Is this typical procedure to buy a home. Here it takes about 30 days. I know how frustrating can be. When you finally get that beautiful home you'll soon forget all this aggravation.Good luck!!

That's great info. Thanks for that! I'm all for DIY too and not into kits. I know kits are more pricey, but yours looked really good I thought it was a kit.

Obsessed with this room! It wouldn't work in my current home, but I totally love it! So uber cool.

Finally finished the projects in the kitchen. I put some extra cabinets on the floor and cut out the drywall and put recessed shelving above it. I also put some more recessed shelving on the adjacent wall and built her a barn door and hung that. I have to admit I am not a big fan of the barn door. She saw on pinterest that to get that old look she wanted to use old pallet wood. So I broke up a bunch of pallets at work and used that wood to make the door. But to me it looks like a big pallet. But she loves it and that is all that counts. Now I have to finish the batten board she wants in the hallway and up the stairs.

I have to agree with you on all the pallet projects floating around on the internet. Very seldomly do I ever see pallets that are in good condition. Great job on the recessed shelving though. I'd love to have some of those.
