I think we overfeed Yoda the first year, he's like 6.5 lbs now or maybe near 7. :P I think he stopped growing at about 10 months to a year (he's 2.25 years old now). Have you tried a purse that's specifically for a dog? I think Yoda's pretty much outgrown any particular bag, and we usually let him walk with us. When we go into stores, I usually carry him in my arms, or when it's cold out, put him inside my jacket (so only his head sticks out and he can see all the action). When he was was smaller, he would stay in a doggy bag (not enclosed like a carrier) pretty good. I don't know why, perhaps he was scared of the height when being carried? He'd stay until we put the doggy bag on the ground. Cosita definitely will need to get used to it, I think Yoda was a little apprehensive about the doggy bag at first!

| Hi Raiza! 16 weeks!! That's the age Toto was when we brought her home ... I envy you this age! Not that we haven't loved every second with Toto, but it was so much fun to watch her little personality develop and she is such a joy!! She is 13 months now and weighs 4 lbs. I'm sorry you're having a difficult time with the bag. Toto's bag isn't one of those "designer" bags specifically made for dogs. It's just a bag I picked up at Lambert Airport in St. Louis. [there's a pic of Toto in her bag at her first restaurant in one of her albums in the gallery] I put her in it one day with her favorite fleece blankie and she loved it in there! I put a folded towel in the bottom where she could sit up high enough to peek out ... I have tried her in other bags but she loves that one ... don't know what I will do when it wears out!! She just stays in there and will pull her head in and hide when she is scared, if she gets cold, when she just wants to nap or when she is just plain tired of people "admiring" her! The topknot ... it took several months for Toto to grow hair long enough on top to put the topknot up ... if I recall correctly it was at about 5-6 months old. I started brushing her regularly when she was about 4-5 months ... I probably should have started earlier because it took her a few weeks to start to really like it ... now when she sees me getting her grooming bag she gets in my lap ... she will even lay on her back for me to brush her stomach and legs! It's all because of the patience and perseverance! Just enjoy this age ... it passes all too quickly!!

Hello fasteddie: Yes, I tried a bag that is for doggies. We'll see, I don't think she is going to be a baggy kind of gal' LOL . Yes, I think Cosita is apprehensive, but at the same time she dares. Looks as if she is going to jump out of it and don't care how high she is. I will keep trying, but I doubt she will want to stay there. I should had tried the bag before taken her out for walks on a lead. I think Cosita is going to be about 7 pounds as well .. and I am not overfeeding her. Hi bettyeanne: Cosita's age is no for envy LOL... she is a handful cuz of the potty. I like how cute she is but at the same time I want her to be out of the potty training. That means she will be close to one year old. This morning I took her out of her crate, and I thought she was getting the hang of going outside first thing in the morning. I put her in the living room, and saying at the same time "let's go potty".. and as I just bend down to pick up her can of treat, she went right on the carpet!! She didn't even waited for me to open the door... she knows that when that door is opened that is where she goes. I got upset. I am a clean freak and I had to go down on my knees and clean the mess. Took me a while cuz I am a little bit obsess with cleanness. My husband told me that bringing a dog to our house may be too much for me since he knows how bad I wear myself down trying to keep the house spotless ALL the time. I feel bad for Cosita cuz on one hand I think she knows where she should go, but then on the other hand I think she is too young and I need to be patience. I tossed her outside and she did not go #1 or #2. Of course #1 was already taken care inside . Then I had to leave to work and put her in her play pen, which I had to put that strong plastic tape around it cuz she claims up and out of the pen. I ordered a top for that pen, but I still don't get. So I am in the roll since 6 am this morning, got to work at 10 am and I am soooooooooo very tire..... now I feel guilty leaving her at home alone and loosing my temper this morning. Hubby says I wasn't ready for a dog, but I love her so much and I wanted her so much. If I don't start being patience with her and the potty situation, I think Hubby is going to get mad at me and advise me to get rid of the dog. Yes, her personality is such a joy and seems that she would want to be with me no matter what. Ok enough of the "potty" ... That is good Toto stayed at 4 pounds. One of the reasons I wanted a small dog is because it was easy for me to handle. I had back surgery a year ago and bending is still hard on me.. Cosita is perfect for me. About the bag, u know, I will try the towel or a blankie, i will see how it works. Cosita kind of fights the baths and the brushes, but I do it regularly. When she is bathing and she sees that towel where she is going to be wrapped up she gets so happy cuz she knows she will be kind of warm. But ain't over yet LOL, then comes all the brushing and the hair drying.. man she is desperate to get away from me. I tried to brush her teeth as well, boy she fights that as well. I think in time, she will just give up and just stay still.. who knows. Hopefully I am not rafting her way too much. boy don't I yiak! yiak, yiak, yiak!! -Raiza

Yak away all you want! We like to hear about Cosita! Yeah, if she doesn't like being in a bag, and you've tried numerous times, she just ain't a bag lady. :P The cutest thing about Yorkies is their personality! It just radiates!

| Raiza .... our babies are very forgiving!! The small dog was a wise decision with your bad back. I have had three surgeries on my back [I'm way older than you! ] and one of the main things my doctor stressed was walk, walk walk!! So that's another plus for buying a dog! It's difficult for me to walk ... for so long I was a jogger! At least I can walk Toto! Another thing I avoid is bathing Toto in the bathtub because bending over the tub is also bad for your back! Until we have a "grooming room" for Toto, I bathe her in my kitchen sink ... no brushing or anything in there ... just bathe her because I don't have to bend! Then I just sterilize everything and I don't have the think "yuck" I just bathed a dog in my kitchen sink"!! LOL

Hello Fasteddie and bettyeanne, I have been gone from my computer ... I wanted to thank you for all your responses. You guys are cool people!! I must give you an update of Cosita... Last monday I got all last vaccination. Also got her a "Home Again" chip cuz I heard Yorkies are really stealable. She has been going for "4" days out to pee and poopoo... She will even tell me she wants to go out. I can say that she goes right on command: "go potty" and she would take two steps and squat... and there has been 2 nights that she has not pee in her crate. I think she is learning. However I must say that I work from home 3 days a week, so I can watch her. Tomorrow I will be gone all day and I think she will pee in her play pen. We'll see. Saturday we went out to do errands and she was able to stay in her bag when I told her so. The pivoting moment would be when I put the bag on the floor and make her stay there. Well, she would get all excited to get out (while the bag was on the floor) but I would tell her "stay there", "good stay", "good girl" and she would just do it.. There were some places that I could get her in walking.. I bet she looooved that!! She thinks she is all grown up teenager now!!! She is now learning to roll over. Hasn't quite master it yet.. Regarding the play pen, she won't stay there. I had to put masking tape all around the playpen so she wouldn't jump out, but I don't know how she still did it . She must have been doing some type of acrobatic moves there . I just got a "top net" from "Mid West" company to cover the play pen. That was the only thing that would keep her in there. I bet now she throws some mathematical equations on how to get out now that it has that net. I just bought a bumble bee custom for Halloween.. I can't wait . bettyeanne, wow, you have had 3 back surgeries huh??!!! So you know how it feels. Gets us tired really easy huh. Are you feeling better from that?, I am still in the healing process, if it ever does. Yea, I was waiting for all vaccinations so I could walk her even more. I also bathe her in the kitchen sink ..yaiks!! it is high enough for me and plus she won't get that cold. She is soo good now at letting me brush her hair.. as you can see we have been doing lots of bonding these last days. Fasteddie, is Yoda still sleeping in his new Bassinet? -Raiza

Thanks for the pictures. Glad to hear she is learning so fast! It just takes some time at first! Yes, amazing little escape artists can jump outta anywhere and get outta anything it seems! :P Yes, Yoda naps in his bassinet, but he still gets needy and whiny when he wants attention.

Fasteddie: Yoda looks soo adorable in his basinet! He really seems to like it in there. He has a really beautiful & shiny coat. Its amazing what you can find at yard sales. I don't know about you guys but it seems that since Cookie came into my life I no longer go shopping for myself. My dad jokes around w/ me and whenever I come home he says, "So what did u buy Cookie (the baby) today?!!" Raiza Cosita's pics are really really adorable!! I love her sweater. They seem to just want to play all the time so i thought it was going to be impossible to get her to concentrate when I wanted to train her but repetition is they key element!! I can't seem to get a close up pic of Cookie b/c she wants to know what I'm pointing at her or she just doesn't sit still long enough. LOL! Cookie is about 4 1/2 mo. and I taught her how to sit, stay and then get up on her two hing legs this past weekend. Of course rewarded w/ a treat. Sometimes I wish I could stay home w/ her all day!! Well Cookie recently finished getting her shots but before that I would take her out on errands w/ me in her doggie purse. I am sort of a purse freak & I think I am passing that on to Cookie, I have too many bags for her now...LOL! Good thing is that they learn to love their bags. Whenever she sees me grab one she can't wait to jump in. All I have to say is "Vamos!" - spanish for "Let's go" and there she goes waiting for her adventure to start. LOL! I just wish I could get the same reaction from her when I go to brush her. I have to hold her in one arm and brush her w/ the other b/c if I put her down she'll simply go after the brush to play w/ it. LOL! I've tried treats and toys to keep her entertained but she rather play w/ the brush. Does anyone else use a conditioning/detangling spray before & after brushing?? Don't even get me started on getting her to stay so I can tie her topknot!!! I call it Mission Impossible!!! I know it will just take time and I want to keep doing it so she gets used to the process. WOW!!! I have certainly rambled on and on...well keep the cute pics coming...Hopefully I can get some pics of Cookie up soon. -RubyC

hi fasteddie, yea, they sometimes want lots of attention that nothing else seems to matter. That bassinet is just the curest thing!!! Rubi.. don't think you will make her sit still and then take the shot... nah.. she won't. What I do, I lay totally flat on the ground/grass with the camera, I throw her favorite toy and she gets really excited bitting it and everything.. in one of those I call her and as soon as she looks up I take the shot (put your camera in speed mode at all times). Many pics I take her will come out only her hinds, or an ear, or one leg, cuz she moves so fast that I can only get one part of her body. What I do is develop the roll in a CD then I see them in my computer to develop the good ones. There is store here called "Walmart" that a CD of 35 shots will cost only $3.80. A developed pic from that CD costs .22 cents. I probably get 3 - 4 good shots of all those pics (if I am lucky). I want to start taking shots of her making those funny faces, like yawning, sticking her thong out and the like, but those are toughy ones. Cosita is also 4 1/2 as well. This training, we just have to keep on doing. There will be times you think she is NOT getting it at all and you are frustrated with all the work.. but one day, she "WANGs" does it!!!! The potty training, she had 4 exact days she didn't go inside. This morning I put her in her play pen after taken her out.. I went to take a shower and when i came back she had pee and poo in there. bbbrrrgggg... it happens.. so we have to be patience. Regarding the bag.. She was a freak case.. now with a lot of work she is learning to like it in there. I want her to be able to stay in the bag when we go to places she can't be rumming around... and also be able to take her walking. The brushing, takes a few. Cosita either gave up or she has just leaned to like it. Her hair is now long enough to pin it.. I got these pin from http://www.trixieandpeanut.com/getpage.html?6. I will have a pic attached.. She does not have enough hair for a rubber band yet, but these pins are perfect. She has now learned when I say "settle" she just stays still until I finish putting the pin. I will see if I get a pic wearing one. I bought the pair of pink crystal. I buy these products from this web site http://mjm-petsilk.com/catalog.htm. The Pet Silk Basic Conditioning Three Piece Set ($19.95). Conditioning, Shampoo and Rinse plus Leave In Mist. My dog's hair is so silky and hardly has mats. The products can be diluted up to 10 times since they are thick. If you wonder about what type of brush I use, ask me.. I will send you the link. Ruby, are you Spanish? My English is a second language. I speak Spanish .. anyway.. thought typing some tips on how I got Cosita doing some somethings. I can tell you, she can be a tough cookie too!!.. but a lovely one! Yorkies are fun and sooooooooooooooooo cute!!! -Raiza

Raiza: Hola, Si I am spanish. My parents are from South America. I am bi-lingual, thanks to my parents teachings I am fluent. When is Cosita's birthday? Cookie's is April 19th. When I was thinking of names for her one of the names I had was Chiquita...LOL! So do those pins really stay in her hair? Even when she shakes her head? I have to put an elastic and the barette between the elastic and her head so she doesn't shake it or pull it out...LOL! Thank u for the product name, i'll have to try it out when I use up what I have now. Yes tell me what kind of brush you have...I have 2 brushes already and I can't really decide if I like them or not. Thanks again for the tips. p.s. thats pretty funny about her "accident" in the playpen. Que tremendas son!!! -RubyC

hahahaha for some reason I knew you were Spanish... perhaps something you said. I am from Panama.. but I started to learn English when I was 23.. I am very fluent now.. some screws up here and there, but not biggy. I married a wonderful gringo!!! LOL ... the love of my life. ... really... Ok here are the brushes... they are highly recommended by my breeder. She takes her dogs to show competition, so she really uses high end stuff. I buy the #1 All Systems (made in Germany) http://mjmcompany.com/1allsystems.htm 1. Ultimate Professional Pin Brush (not the pocket size) $12.95 .. however, I have both in case I go out. 2. The #1 All Systems Ultimate Metal Comb $16.95 .. I tell you. This is awesome! I use it the most. 3. Slicker Brushes. I have the Small Slicker $7.95 and the Large Slicker $9.95. These are REALLY REALLY good when you have a mat here and there. Don't know what it does, but looses them up. I use the small one for her legs and between... and the big one for her body... right now I don't use the big one that much but the Breeder says it will come very in handy when she has long hair. The brushes are "soft" but yet steady and won't hurt their skin and won't brake their hair. I had one brush before these ones, and when I got the new ones, I threw away the old one cuz wasn't as good as I had thought. The comb is excellent! You will be able to get that comb through her hair. I know they are a little expensive.. but I thought, we are going to have these dogs for a long time. Here is the whole home page (http://mjmcompany.com/).. the shampoos i gave you are there as well. I thought to give you the exact links cuz it is hard to really find the right pages. Cosita's DOB is 4/29/2004 ... oh I thought of Chiquita as well .. but u know, I like Cookie better. The pin, yes, they stay.. I think you will have to Learn to put them on. Cookie and you will have to work some on it. What i do, I grab some hair with the finger "indice" and start doing like a roll, then when I have enough hair rolled up, I pin it. There are other cute shapes you can put the pin.. once you test you will see what you like best. Si tremendas las chiquitas!!!! LOL -Raiza P.S. The comb is the one in the middle of the pic.
