LOL isnt this the truth. Our baby kitty Lily is a very patent cat. We have had her since she was born and since she was old enough for the kids to hold her they have been dressing her up like a baby to. Funny, she is very used to clothes now and is patient with the kids, but is dang grateful to be done as well... ![]()

| ![]() think i'll stay out of this one, the mood i'm in today would piss someone off, lol. i agree though the own a dog, you feed a cat. everyone in here has opinions, some may come off more harsh than others, but that's just the type of person some people are. i know i was offened one time by a comment made to one of my questions but after reading replies from that same person i realized that just how they express their opinions nothing against me or anyone else. well looks like i did get in this one but oh well. i think sometimes on this forum you just have to suck it up and move on and not let things get to you. |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | ![]() Mine were very patient with dress up too. I have no clue why they didn't scratch her or head for the hills (under the bed) when she headed their way. One kitty, who probably DIDN'T like the dressing part, would sleep in that carriage at his own discretion and would ride as long as DD wanted him too. |

| ![]() My yorkie is in a playpen while we go to work. When we first got him and put him in there, we ignored his cries to get out because for the first couple of weeks that was his bed also, and he had to sleep. But now that he is in there just when we go out, he never gets upset when we put him in. However, he does get so excited when we come home! - jumping up and down and yiping! We love it! He is just doing what the other dogs we have do. We let him out right away and love him up! We would never punish him for being happy to see us. That excitement is appropriate behavior. As far as my 5 cats, they are affectionate towards us, other than at feeding times. I truly believe cats may be more independent, but they need and want petting and touching and to hear our voices. Yes, both cats and dogs are food driven, but my cats come to us even after being fed to lay with us and talk to us. Sure, cats can exist without human contact, but then so can dogs for that matter. |

| ![]() Ok..I have a 5 year old male cat and my two yorkies and to be honest, unless Rocky (thats my cats name) is hungry,I NEVER see him! and he is a totally indoor cat! lol.I have always been a dog person,I love my cat, dont get me wrong, but I honestly think that cats are not really pets,I mean, they dont really belong to us,infact,I dont think cats love anybody..they just follow those that feed them..at least thats what mine does lol.If Rocky is hungry out he comes and rubs his head against our legs,he will even come out every now and again to play with Lady and Jess, but he is no where near as affectionate as Lady and Jess and basicly wants to be left alone,he only shows interest in us when he wants something. He sleeps all day,he doesnt care if we come or go as long as he has something to eat and its true that a cat will only let you give him so much attention...once he wants to be left alone, thats it,hes outta there.Lady and Jess follow me everywhere, infact,If im on the couch they are next to me,if I move 2 inches to the left, they do too.Cats are totally independant..they dont need us like dogs do at all.Rocky is my boy and I do love him,but he doesnt love us at all..we are just his servants! lol. |

| My 16 year old Cat with our puppy Hi, You said you did EVERYTHING to satisfy the puppies whining. So you went through the list of needs, water, food, to poop, pee, not bored, not overly lonely. I don't think it is a good idea to pick a puppy up when it is bed time and it cries after you have seen to all it's needs including taking time to play with it before putting it to bed in a cage or crate. A puppy like a kitten does need more attention than a grown cat in my opinion. I have owned 2 cats and have had 10 dogs in my home. Our cat Emily is 16 years old. Our puppy Mya is the 9th dog she has had in her life. Emily has dealt with dogs of all sizes and some of the dogs we have had in our home had been physically and emotionally abused as well as abandoned or saved from grave situations. I really think dogs; puppies, cats and kittens can adjust quite well. Three years ago we had a puppy that used to hold Emily down and suck her ears. Emily would purr. I think pet rearing is like child-rearing people have slightly different ideas. What might work for some does not always work for another? Attention, to calm an anxious dog has worked for me. There is standard known sign of a potential good pet owner... they talk to the animal. One problem with e-mails is that people can not read your body language or hear the tone of your voice. I think some might of got the impression that you didn't want your dog hanging around rather than you would like to be able to divide your time. Respectfully, Cyn Driving the grammatically correct insane, one posting at a time. |

| ![]() I have to say I agree with nancyc I do believe cats need human attention. I guess it depends on cat though. I had a cat once and if she thought noone was at home she would start calling for someone. It was the saddest sounding noise and I'd pop my head over the balcony to call her and she'd fly upstairs just to be with someone and she hated being upstairs. The two cats that I have now are a different story. Well at least since we got our yorkie. They tolerate her and even play with her at times but don't come out too much if she's around. One of them though religiously sleeps with us at night no matter what. And if they haven't been around us in a while they come to us purring like they've been missing us. I definately think a dog needs more attention but I don't think they need more love.

| ![]() I have called myself a "cat person" all my life....until we adopted Sully. He's the best little dog! But my love for Sully does not make my love for my beautiful cat any less. My cat, a 3yr old calico himalayan/siamese is absolutely amazing. She and I have this "connection" that no one else may ever understand. It's like she knows how I feel all the time. Her purr soothes me when I am upset, and helps me fall asleep at night. I ADORE MY CAT and can't even find the words to say just how much. Cats and dogs are just different creatures, that's all. The moment anyone starts expecting to "read" cats reactions based on how dogs are, then they're gravely mistaken. Cats want attention, and they also communicate - just with a different language, so to speak. My dad once told me a "joke" about cats and dogs: "You feed a dog, love a dog, take care of a dog, play with a dog - and the dog thinks, 'WOW! My owner must be God!' You feed a cat, love a cat, take care of a cat, play with a cat - and the cat thinks, 'WOW! I must be God!'"

| ![]() I know this is turning into a cat discussion, but that's okay. Siamese cats are known to be very communicative and more people oriented than most cat breeds. Each cat type has its own personality traits, just like dogs. One thought I have about people claiming their cats don't come out..it is true that cats sleep most of the day away, however, I think cats tend to hide when their is a flurry of activity in the house - I know mine do. If company is over, you won't see them, etc. - not all cats, but most. So I think the fact that we have these little dogs that are very active and sometimes noisy and also love to play and chase the kitties, has a lot to do with the fact that the cats are in hiding except for feeding time. Also the bigger your house the more places for kitties to hide out, which they love to do. They love those small spots (like boxes, bags), they also like high spots and sunny spots. Each cat is different based on their breeding and socialization as kittens. I love the statement that cats may not need as much attention, but they need just as much love. They are definitely low maintenance compared to doggies. |

| ![]() Wow, the atmosphere around here has certainly been cranky lately. I have had cats and dogs most of my life - I recently had my 15 year old man cat "Highway" put to sleep as he had begun to suffer with cancer. He was very loving and slept with me and always would be in my lap when I sat. I loved him immeasurably. However, after having German Shepherds, poodle mixes, cocker spaniels and Yorkies - I want Yorkies! They are incredibly needy, loving and inconsolable without tons of attention. It is the most wonderful feeling in the world to have someone so beside themselves with joy upon my return home that they whine, bark, jump, roll over and cover me with kisses all at the same time - this is usually about a 10 - 15 minute ritual that Tucker and I have whenever I have been gone for 1 hour or 8 hours. He follows me wherever I go in the house and I feel so honored to be worthy of this kind of devotion. He sleeps curled up under my chin every night and I wake up to warm snuggly puppy kisses every morning. Yorkies do require much more attention than most breeds of dogs and cats to be their happiest little selves and this is precisely why I got Tucker, who is the third Yorkie to grace my life. I love the cats I have now but they are content to be in another room when I am not. Not so with my boy. Saw this somewhere: " To dogs we are friends, companions and centers of their universe, to cats we are merely staff." Something like that anyway... Please everybody try to get along... Dana |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | ![]() I had a great inside/outside cat for 16 years. I trained him to come to my whistle... he followed me to the everywhere and would wait for me...ie...the store and friends apartments etc.... and actually CHASED my car in the morning when I left for work - I cant even say how many times I had to bring him home cause my kids were yelling "Midnight's in the street chasing us" ! I loved this cat as my best friend... but it still doesn't compare to the variety of love I receive and give to my yorkies - they are just too much like children to me ...but I still say hi to my RB cat when I go to my moms and I still miss him. |

| ![]() Passionfruit: Good joke and so true! I think that it depends on different circumstances and how a cat was raised as to the amount of attention it needs. I've grown up with cats and had a strong dislike for them because to every cat my family ever owned we were simply "the can-opener" as someone else said. However, recently, my mom got two kittens and my boyfriend and I got a kitten. My mom's cats love each other, and while they love us and are very affectionate toward us, we are in second place to the other cat. My cat, Theo, cries as soon as he hears me coming toward the door. When I open the door, it's suddenly as if he's made of jello and flops all over the floor, wanting to get pet. He loves attention and loves to be around us. However, he is content to sleep on the top of the couch or on a piece of furniture that no one is sitting on, where as I think yorkies need more. This is something that I have thought about in anticipation of getting my puppy in a few weeks. I think that once Theo gets used to the puppy he is going to like the companionship. I would think of it like children- if you had 4 children, you would give them all equal attention. However, sometimes you have children who need extra attention, and you must work the situation so as to make all of your children as happy and emotionally healthy as possible. You couldn't ignore a needy child. When you're with your cats, I would make sure that someone else is able to give the puppy attention. And, she is still a puppy so she will probably become more independent as she grows. Good luck, and I hope that the situation works out for you. |
