My 16 year old Cat with our puppy

Hi,
You said you did EVERYTHING to satisfy the puppies whining.
So you went through the list of needs, water, food, to poop, pee, not bored, not overly lonely. I don't think it is a good idea to pick a puppy up when it is bed time and it cries after you have seen to all it's needs including taking time to play with it before putting it to bed in a cage or crate.
A puppy like a kitten does need more attention than a grown cat in my opinion.
I have owned 2 cats and have had 10 dogs in my home. Our cat Emily is 16 years old. Our puppy Mya is the 9th dog she has had in her life. Emily has dealt with dogs of all sizes and some of the dogs we have had in our home had been physically and emotionally abused as well as abandoned or saved from grave situations. I really think dogs; puppies, cats and kittens can adjust quite well. Three years ago we had a puppy that used to hold Emily down and suck her ears. Emily would purr. I think pet rearing is like child-rearing people have slightly different ideas. What might work for some does not always work for another? Attention, to calm an anxious dog has worked for me. There is standard known sign of a potential good pet owner... they talk to the animal. One problem with e-mails is that people can not read your body language or hear the tone of your voice. I think some might of got the impression that you didn't want your dog hanging around rather than you would like to be able to divide your time.
Respectfully,
Cyn
