| I have thought about this too! I definitely see the positive side of it (especially after some stories from here). I would want to be able to find and recover my little guy if something ever were to happen to him (heaven forbid). Where do you need to register your number at? Every local vet, animal shelter, rescue, etc. The thought I hate is what if it moves around, not staying where is should? Can this happen? You hear about odd cases of things like this happen to humans, implanted things moving around. - hey, you never know! Oh that is scary!!! I hate the thought of humans one day having this done too - okay, too many science fiction and scary government stories/movies!!! hee,hee

the shelter's scanner is a wand-like scanner. kinda like when you're at the airport and get "wanded". so i would think it wouldn't matter if it moved a little bit under the skin. it's a passive chip so it doesn't do anything but sit under the skin unless it's being scanned. you know, for a moment there, if i completely disregard the concept of civil liberties, i think microchipping kids with a gps chip would be great! never lose your kids again and always know where they are!!!

| We had one of our girls microchipped, the vet injected it when she had her dental and under anethesia. She's only 5 lbs and pain from it wouldn't be felt then. He said that he'd never administer it if the small animal was awake. The chip hasn't bothered her, but I think it bothered me more as it had moved from the back of her neck to her rib cage area, right where her harness goes around her. It seemed to stay in that spot ever since so I have to watch her that she don't get irritated in that area of the chip. The vet said it can move around under the skin, it doesn't always stay up in the neck area and it shouldn't ever be a problem. |

| It's just like an injection and its pretty quick. Its the size of a grain of rice. This weekend I asked my vet how it works and if she could show me by scanning my dogs. She scanned Cookie and her scanner beeped and displayed a number. What she would do if he was lost and she scanned him. She would call Petrac and give them the number and they would give her all the information like Owner's name, phone number and pet's name. I compared it to the Petrac certificate and the numbers matched perfectly. Our new baby girl Maltese is microchipped and my vet scanned her also and her numbers matched. The microchip can only be helpful if a pet that is lost is taken to a shelter or to a vet and told that this pet was lost. Genie, Cookie & Lola |

| There is actually a GPS watch that you can have your child wear . You can track your child online and it will show you a map and tell you within a few feet , the street address where you child is. I honeslty considered buying this watch for my 9 yr old daughter. It has two buttons. One button if pressed for 3 seconds, it contacts the police and she can be tracked. There is a monthly fee for this like $20 a month. The watch costs $180 There is also a GPS collar for dogs and it works the same way. If your dog runs off or is stolen ,you can immediately go online and get a map and street address of where your dog is. The only problem with the collar is that it is best for dogs that are bigger than most Yorkies Genie,Cookie & Lola |

| Lil Bear and Moose both had their's done at the pet expo that the Humane Society had a couple of weeks ago. It was like a shot put between the shoulder blades. Neither one of them made a noise when it was done.

| We are planning on getting Zoey chipped later this month when she gets spayed. Our last dog was a Doberman, she name was Romy, she was chipped and tattooed to show she was spayed. She was a rescue, from a Dobie Rescue and they took care of all of that, so when we got her she was already chipped. My Vet thought it was wonderful and thinks every pet should be chipped. And I have to say after going to the rescue site in person and seeing all these dogs I think it’s a good idea. I know some were given up but a lot of the pets just get lost. If I somehow lost Zoey I would at least want another way to find her. Kelly Zoeys Mommy |

)The moving around is what bothers me, even though it will probably never bother them! BUT do the people with scanners always scan just the head area or do they scan the whole dog? Okay, I know, I am paranoid and crazy Also, how did you know that yours moved and does the harness rubbing against it cause pain? - Just curious! Quote:
I like that idea better than implanting something into our children - I mean, it would be good for us parents, but as they get older - I know I wouldn't want everyone to know where I am at anytime. Not that I ever do anything bad! I think the problem with the watch, just as the GPS collar, is that it can be easily seen and therefore easy to take off - but I think it is a great idea. Maybe they will come out with GPS earings or chokers or socks or something! Thanks for all the info..........you all are the best!!!!

i think the idea is that once the chip is in, it's not suppose to move. it should not be detectable by touch so even with a toy breed show dog that's microchipped the judges would not be able to detect the microchip during inspection. when i had bunjee microchipped they also scanned him to make sure it's working. they basically wanded his back, from the base of the neck to mid back for a scan.

| I saw it being done on TV the other night. The dogs weren't asleep and it was over and done before they even knew what had happened. I agree though it would be a perfect time to have it done if they are put to sleep for any other procedure - spaying/neutering etc. Carol Jean |

| I had my moms little dog done and she was not affected. I am going to have tonee done but i am waiting for my new yorkie and have them done together. the military vets recommend because we move so much. each time you move or change your number you have to contact the registry though. the only problem i have found with them is that many vets and shelters don't even bother to scan for them. my vet said the scanner are not cheap so not all vets have them. your pet could be lost or stolen and thought the chip is suppose to help get them back to you, it only works if they are scanned. |

| I agree that microchips are great. But why do these Socialist S.O.B's have to made everything a LAW?? |

| Anyone have experience with adopting a dog that is micro chipped? All this talk has got me thinking that since my dogs were micro chipped by their original owner, I should try to get that info changed to my name. Or maybe someone has moved and had to update their info. How do you go about that? Thanks! |
