The bolded red statement is absolutely NOT true. Many of us have changed, and many of those to come here will change, they will learn and they will become educated and they will become better animal owners/breeders/lovers. There are many more better animal owners/breeders/ etc., here then NOT. Most of us here are here to make a difference, to bring about change. My final statement on this thread is I am extremely disappointed that this has been made in to a YT opening thread in the General Section. This by far ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT represent the whole of YT. These threads that are being singled out are FEW AND FAR BETWEEN...I think YT represents a whole lot more than what is being headlined here. It is a wealth of knowledge, education, experience, advocacy, support, POSITIVITY made possible by thousands and thousands of posts and threads where many of the members have contributed valuable time energy, research, experience and expertise in the fields of health, training, care, medical (experience and professional) emergencies and even fashion. Additionally, it is a collection of views, schools of thought, training and beliefs meshed together to make YT what it is. YT is a place to learn and see all sides of every single aspect regarding Yorkies and MORE. I for one agree that there are certain HOT TOPICS, especially when it is blatantly apparent that a pup is being NEGLECTED and or the potential for such. I agree there have been moments, but again in my view they are few and far in between compared to all the good things, posts, threads of YT. That YT is so out of control that a sticky reprimanding a few threads is representing us to Newbies as an opening statement to me is wrong and I am astounded, what a shame and what a gross misrepresentation, in my eyes anyway....I feel very badly for all of those who have always contributed so MUCH of themselves on and off the boards that their few moments of shame are bringing them the most fame....Very Sad. |

Very good post Ann! |
I just found this thread because I haven't wanted to deal with the drama. I have learned so much and have recommended this site to many, especially those who have little experience with dogs and dog nutrition. However the recommendation come with a warning to ignore the drama and use the knowledge. I know I am not comfortable asking questions or even posting about my new babies. |

I am so surprised to read this! I have been a member for a few years, and admittedly, don't log on for weeks, or even months, at a time, so maybe I've missed all the negativity. Personally, I've never had anyone attack me, nor have I received any ugly or rude comments on any posts, or to any of my replies. I guess I've been in the minority, based on how many have comments to the contrary. I'm happy to remain a member, and have never really read anything truly negative written to another member. I feel that everything written here is done so in an effort to help, educate, and to lift up the Yorkies and their humans! |

I so agree Lynzy, I have found the drama to be minimal here, and it's never bothered me. I've never been afraid to post, or worried that I'll be "attacked" in any way.... guess I must have thick skin lol. |
While the majority of YT is mostly full of good advice, opinions, fun and friendly, apparently a large number of members have been responding negatively to the tone, harshness and aggressiveness of enough of the posts on YT that they are speaking their minds to Admin about it and Ann wouldn't have bothered to start this thread. I doubt anyone wants any of us to stop speaking our minds or having real conversations but just to think about whether or not we are using our best judgment and word-choice before submitting our posts and whether we are adding to the conversation or just out to score an ad hominem verbal slap. It is possible to make valid points and speak one's mind without being mean, harsh or aggressive. |
:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: Very nicely said! |
Well said, Ann, thanks. YT survives because it's packed with indispensable information and loaded with people who truly understand each other's travails. Losing knowledgeable members because of hurt feelings is a shame. |

I am actually very happy to see this. I stopped coming to YT for a long time, only checking in once in a great great while for this very reason that you mentioned here. It just was not enjoyable and not worth it to come with all that "harshness" around. So thank you. Ill give it a try now and see if things have infact changed. |

I love this poster and quote. There is a book for middle school aged kids called Wonder that has sold over a million copies. It is now a school-wide read for our district's middle school. Although my students are ninth graders, I read it to see how I could spread the book's important message to them. The book has great appeal to kids, but adults have really loved it, including me. It is about a boy with severe craniofacial abnormalities who enters school for the very first time in fifth grade. There is a big campaign (Choose Kind) spreading the book's anti-bullying message. If you have children it's wonderful to read this book with them. This quote was used in the follow up book to Wonder that had a chapter written from the bully's point of view. Wonder ![]() ![]() These are some of Wonder's quotes about kindness: “When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind. - Dr Wayne W. Dyer” ― R.J. Palacio, Wonder “Kinder than is necessary. Because it's not enough to be kind. One should be kinder than needed.” ― R.J. Palacio, Wonder From a quote by Barrie, the author of Peter Pan Part of the passage that used the quote: “But in another book by J. M. Barrie called The Little White Bird … he writes …” He started flipping through a small book on the podium until he found the page he was looking for, and then he put on his reading glasses. “ ‘Shall we make a new rule of life … always to try to be a little kinder than is necessary?’ ” Here Mr. Tushman looked up at the audience. “Kinder than is necessary,” he repeated. “What a marvelous line, isn’t it? Kinder than is necessary. Because it’s not enough to be kind. One should be kinder than needed.” ― R.J. Palacio, Wonder “We carry with us, as human beings, not just the capacity to be kind, but the very choice of kindness.” ― R.J. Palacio, Wonder “There’s no rule book that tells you how to act in every given situation in life, you know? So what I always say is that it’s always better to err on the side of kindness. That’s the secret. If you don’t know what to do, just be kind. You can’t go wrong.” ― R.J. Palacio, The Julian Chapter: A Wonder Story |

There are a few qualities that I especially admire in other people...and wow, do I ever admire people who walk the walk in terms of being kind and respectful, no matter the situation, even when/if heightened or confrontational. I SO admire those who handle themselves well in difficult situations - I think it says it all about who they really are at the core of their being. |
Someone told me about this thread, thanks for bringing it back to the top so I could read it. Wow! 16 pages! |
