Default first hello! new member, looking for breeder reviews

first post here! I am new to the forum but an active member on 5 other forums for cars, pets, and graphic design. My hobby is saltwater reef aquariums and I spend alot of time on the reef forums. any fellow reef addicts out there say hi!

back to the yorkie talk. New to the yorkie breed but not to dogs at all. I have had dogs my entire life.

I am planning on adding a member to the family this xmas with a small yorkie. I will not offend anyone and say "teacup/miniature/toy" as I know they are not breeds of yorkie, but we are looking for a smaller dog that will most likely not see the 5 pound mark. Let me say I know the extra care that goes along with having a dog this small as well as the inherited health risks.

I found two private breeders in NY that I have been in contact with that seem very nice. I have done google searches on both but could use some first hand reviews. Does this forum permit me to post who they are and ask for some experience and guidance? I will post back when someone gives me the go ahead.

We recommend you look at the YTCA website. There are wonderful breeders there. Also you can do a yorkie talk search for those breeders. You can list the breeders. Do they have a website? If they do post that too

The YTCA is a very good place to start. Although breeders listed may not currently have puppies they may be able to point you in the right direction. There is also a lot of breed info there.

Another option is to go to the AKC website and do a club search. You want to do a state search for conformation clubs as well as breed clubs. These clubs have a breeder referral contact person who will know many breeders in your state as well as others.

Most reputable breeders are producing dogs that mature around 4 to 7 pounds although they may have pups that may be smaller or larger at times.
People who breed strictly for small size do not do genetic testing and are producing stock that is prone to some pretty serious health issues.

I have also had dogs all of my life but never had a terrier until Gracie. There is a huge difference in temperament. These dogs are emotional, stubborn and adorable. I love this breed but I was stumped at first with some of the training issues I encountered. They may be small but they have huge personalities.

I might mention that it is not that we are so offended by the terms "tea cup" or "mini" as we are appalled by the harm that is being done to the breed by irresponsible breeders who produce and advertize such dogs.

Internet searches will almost always bring up puppy mills, brokers, and backyard breeder ads. It takes a bit more research to find a truly reputable breeder as they usually are not trying to take advantage of the current out of control market for tiny dogs.

Welcome. Never had a saltwater aquarium, but have always admired them for their magnificent beauty.

Agree with everything said so far. While we adopted our Yorkie and he is now 8.1 pounds, we are very lucky (and cursed) to have him. Being a terrier, he is about as stubborn as you can ever imagine. But on the other hand, he is the most loving creature my wife and I have ever had. He's a handful, but worth it time and time again.

I wish you much luck in your hunt and hope you find what you are after.

Also contact T & S Kennels, they have a website with their dogs and they breed 3 different types of dogs. Their number is on the website, tell them Chris from the Bronx referred you. It's just a backup option but they answered all my questions because I never had a dog this young (3 months).

The only way to guarantee what size your pup is going to be would be to get an adult because there is no sure fire way to know what size a pup will grow to. I would check out the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America there is some great guidelines and breeds you can find through there. Some important to tips for finding a food breeder would be they will not let there pups go home before 12 weeks, the mother is not less then 5 pounds, they do not use the word teacup, they are AKC registered, they health and genetic test all there breeders, they don't ship you the pup they will have someone hand carry the pup in the cabin of a plane to you, they have a health guarantee, you can see the parents, you can see where the parents and pups are living, they are not being kept in out buildings, they don't breed many dogs at one time, they don't breed mixes, and they don't breed many many types. The Yorkshire Terrier Club of America knows what is best of yorkies so you really should go with what they say is best.

thanks for all the great help. and to Lovetodream88 for a good write up. I have contacted alot of breeders on the YTCA and AKC sites and most of them never called me back but a few did.

I am in contact with one woman that comes highly recommended on this forum but I will keep her name private as im trying to find information on the other breeder.

I fell in love with this 8 week old boy from a breeder upstate NY from the AKC site.
Her name is Kenia and her website is.

www.dynastyyorkie.com

Im looking for any information on her as I really want her puppy but it scares me that I cannot find anything on her.

the puppy is 8 weeks old and is 1pound 3oz. She is telling me the pup should be around 3 1/5 pounds full grown. how does this sound to you guys?

thanks. which ever puppy I go with, i will post tons of pictures and videos! im not just using this forum to help find a dog, but will be an active member that contributes as well as ask questions!

I'm sorry. I'm really not trying to give you a hard time but Dynasty Yorkie is something that you should steer clear of. I would not touch the health guarntee for one thing. They guarntee the puppy to live for 72 hours! If your puppy is found to have a genetic problem before the age of 1 year they will replace the puppy......not help with the expense of the problem. Many of the genetic problems that people like this are creating in the breed are not discovered until well after the first year. Do your really think you are going to want to return a puppy that you have had for several months or even 11 months due to a defect? Most people cannot return a puppy after a couple of days despite the fact that the problem could cost them hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

There is not one pedigree on the site that I could find. They are advertizing and stating that their dogs will be 3.5lbs. For one thing there is no way they can guarntee that weight. Tiny dogs do not breed well. A female of that weight cannot be bred safely and if someone was foolish enough to breed such a dog they would have serious problems.

The site looks like a typical puppy mill website. They can make some nice sites but the facilities are usually bad. They sometimes hire a broker to sell the puppies for them so their actual location is not found. You notice they do not give an address only a region. A reputable breeder would have much more info on their kennel.

If that is the kind of people you want to give your money to it is certainly your decision. If you had been on YT for any length of time you would see the very sad stories of people who have purchased from such breeders. If you are in a hurry to get a puppy they certainly will be able to help you since they breed the life out of their stock.

The site is also telling you a big lie about the AKC accepting off color Yorkies. Some Yorkies do change to a different shade as they mature but it is not condoned by the YTCA or the AKC as this person states.

Any Yorkie puppy is adorable. It is what is lurking under that adorable little furry coat, that could cost the life of that poor fur baby, that you need to be on the look out for. Sometimes good things are worth waiting for.

You would do yourself a favor by contacting the clubs that are through out NYS. It may take a little longer but at least you would be dealing with true professionals that know and understand the genetics of the breed.

Hello and welcome! We owned a salt water aquarium for years. Hubby and I are avid scuba divers, and love all the salt water critters. His favorite is the Queen Angel, and mine is the Spotted Drum.
Gracielove gave you some excellent advice. A poor or hastily made decision could end up costing you thousands and thousands of dollars in medical bills, and endless heartache. Please proceed with caution. I checked out Dynasty Yorkie's website, and I would not purchase a dog from them if it were the last dog on earth. There are red flags everywhere. They are cruelly breeding undersized females, which makes them trash in my book. I know with patience you will find you perfect furever friend. He's out there wagging his tail, waiting for you to bring him home. I wish you the best.

Please do not go with dynasty yorkie she breeds female yorkies under 5 pounds which is VERY dangerous which would show she truly cares more about money then her dogs as well as the fact that she ships them in cargo which is very bad for a small puppy it even makes some very sick because the temperature is not controlled, dogs get lost, its dark, its nosy, and just plan scary for a pup who just gotten taken away from there mom. When breeders do things that are not safe and show no concern for the breeding dogs is makes you wounder what other step they skip and how they might treat the pups.

Ok so here's the story with me and Dynastyyorkies. I am currently looking for a puppy. The puppies this Kenia has are adorable, and so I started my inquiries. I asked her to send me pictures of mother, father, puppy I was interested in, as well as if she has OFA, CERF certification, if she belongs to any dog clubs, and I wanted referrals from more recent as well as older clients. She tells me that the puppy I wanted was sold. After reading forums about scams and some shady breeders I decided to see what this Kenia woman was all about. So I sent her an email from my husbands address and asked her about the puppy. HE'S STILL THERE!!! I've decided this place is not to be trusted. The breeder obviously is either a scam or trying to hide something. She didn't want to provide essential information for me, AND she has not asked a single question about me. If I was looking for a loving and carrying home for my puppies I would ask a million questions before giving him/her away.

It appears this person realizes you have done some research and know some good questions to ask of a potential breeder. They have no good answers because they are breeding irresponsibly. Sadly, this accounts for many of the small dog breeders out there.
Try going to the AKC website and do a club search for your state. Look for conformation clubs in your area. They usually have a breeder referral contact person.

WOW! I am amazed as how mean some people are in here. You never visited Dynasty Yorkies home, you guys do not know who the breeder is and talk about her without proof. You can't find anything bad about the breeder, but you still post negative comments about her. You are plain evil people for accusing someone who support the ASPA and who fights for the animal rights of been a puppy mill. That tells me about your character and personality.
You have no idea what you are talking about. There is a God watching all over your negative actions. I leave it all to him.
I am Kenia. I am a responsible breeder. Yes, I produce small dogs and that's because my boys are small and because I have a very selective breeding program.
Better watch your words. You never know when you will need someone who was offended and attacked by you to come give you a hand to get you out of a hole.
If you didn't find anything bad about me is because my customers are 100% happy otherwise I am sure you would had found something negative about myself.
I thanks God for giving me this 6 sense of smelling trouble 1000 miles away. Maybe that's why he kept this buyer away from my puppies.
