| My heart goes out to you and your family. I am so sorry for your lost and I understand this is not an ideal reason to join YT. I personally would consult an attorney and find out what your rights actually are in your city, and county, of Texas. Could it be possible that their dog came through the fence and grabbed your puppy, then brought the puppy back over to his yard? Though it might be challenging to prove you still can give it a try. Your neighbor having such a heartless attitude is NOT acceptable. Are the fence repairs to be divided between both home owners? Sometimes that is the case in Texas neighborhoods. I would have it fixed and take her to court for her half, because if she's not offering to help replace your puppy, she probably won't be willing to put in her half for the repairs. So for the puppy and the fence, we'd go to court. I understand that some people don't have money for these things and they will tell you this is foolish advice and to drop it. If this is what you feel is best and you can afford it, go for it. You can still forgive her, in time.

| You know, until you have gone thru this, you have no idea how devastating it can be. I live on 2 acres, my dogs NEVER go out unattended. My husband took them out last winter and there were 2 dogs in my yard. One attacked and severly injured my Harley who the next day had to be euthanized. My husband was right there trying to fight off the other dog. The animal control officer in our county was amazing. She persued this to the bitter end. She got the guy to court and we were able to reclaim 1/2 our vet bill ($1400) and the dogs owner is prohibited from owning any dogs in this county for 2 years. So, whether her fence was secure or not, if a dog wants at your dog, sometimes there is just not a whole lot you can do about it. My husband had scratches on his arms from trying to fend off that dog. So, we still take extreme care when we take them out, but a hawk, coyote, owl or other dog could be just out of your line of sight and there you go.I just don't feel anyone should say "she should have done this or that", how do you know she didn't? |

| I'm sorry for the loss of your baby. I think Chachi is probably right. The burden of proof is going to lie on you since your baby was killed in their yard rather then yours. I know it's closing the barn door once the horse has escaped but I would look into securing the fence better. We had a neighbor who had a pit and a rotti and we only had a cyclone fence. I ended up leaving the cyclone and also installing a 6 ft stockade all the way around the cyclone for double protection, leaving a small gap between the two so there would be no way for them to make contact. They have since moved and we now have them replaced with another person living there with a large pit/lab mix who they allow off the leash in the front yard. Now, we have to find something to do with the front of our fence so that he can't wonder over and get a hold of their faces through the fence. Very frustrating when you have small dogs who fit through tiny openings. Again, I'm sorry. Elaine |

| I am so sorry for your loss. Something similar happened with me and my 4 babies. Thank God mine were ok, but it took me days to stop shaking and crying. I do know how you feel. Again, I am sorry.

God Bless YOUR heart, your HUSBANDS heart and your GIRLS. That is really terrible, and I am so sorry to hear that. I have had this happen to one of my cats. My neighbor had this huge Siberian Husky ( I have no problem with a Husky in general, I want one, actually) and he killed my kitty. We got animal control up here to check things out and of course got the same run around. However they told us that if an ANIMAL is in YOUR yard being a "nuicance" to your animals you have to right to shoot them. HOWEVER, I would NEVER do that. I have no idea what to tell you I know it can make you mad enough to shoot somebody but I really have no idea what to do in your area. Again, I am very sorry to hear. My love for all of you! <3 <3

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I am so sorry for your loss. I had the same thing happen to me a few years ago. I went outside with my Jinny and the neighbors big dog attacked her. She had puncher wounds all over her body. She spent several nights at the vet. I brought her home and she lived a few days. Her lungs filled up with fluid. I can still hear her gasping for air in my mind. I checked with everyone I could to find someway to press charges. My problem was in my county there is not a leash law. The owners of the dog when I went to the door and told them told me their dog had been there the whole time. A few says later the same dog did the same thing to another neighbors shih tzu. He shot and killed the dog on the spot. I stoped by and thanked him and told me if there was anything I could do to help him I would. The big dogs owners where trying to take him to court.

No, I am positive this is not the case. I've heard from her. She is extremely upset by what happened to her baby as we can only imagine. Sometimes I think it might be better to make certain points after the grief and anguish has subsided a little. It might be better accepted. Not sure, though, how that could be done since the thread is here and now. Of course, this is only my opinion. ~Joanne~

I think that people were just trying to give her honest insight on the situation in the form of other perspectives to consider. Maybe some things would have been better said down the road, but she chose now to ask for advice on how to handle it. I really think people were just trying to give her honest answers. I don't think anyone meant to cause her even more upset or grief though. Heaven knows she has been through enough with this horrible ordeal and has everyone's sympathies.
