My Neighbor's Dog Killed My Yorkie This is my first time to post to Yorkie Talk. I am so devastated and wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if there is anything we can do to get the animal laws changed. Our next door neighbor's huge dog pulled our little Baby Barbie who was only 6 months through their fence on Thursday night and killed her. I called animal control and they came out and said there is nothing they can do and since we can't prove what happened. Our neighbors have been heartless and never offered any apology or sympathy for me and my 2 daughters who were hysterical. The lady in fact yelled at my husband when he asked what we could do to fix this situation or help financially replace her since she cost $1800.00 only 3 months ago. She said my husband needed to learn how to forgive and wasn't a christian. Excuse me, but the last time I checked Christians would have at least came over the next day to check on our family to see how we were coping with what their mutt had done to our baby girl. I want to take them to court, but my husband says I should leave it alone. Does anyone have any insight. I just can't believe this vicious dog who has growled and aggressively barked at my 2 small girls for 2 years and now killed our baby has no repurcussion for this violent act. |
I have no insight, but wanted to say that i am so sorry that you and your family are going through this. Sending you positive thoughts... |
You can take them to small claims court - depending upon the maximum amount your state indicates for small claims. Take pictures of their dog to take to court. Take pictures of your yorkie and any receipts along with you from when you purchased your yorkie. Also take pictures of the fence where this occurred. I'm very, very sorry this happened. It is heartbreaking.:( |
I dont know if theres anything you can do since the dog didnt come in your yard. They would probably ask why your fence wasnt secure. That doesnt make any of it right though. I am sorry for your loss |
Oh my gosh I am so sorry about your baby! Animal control should have done something. That is crazy! |
Did you call animal control or the police right at the time of the incident? And, did they see the evidence? Did they write up a report? I am surprised that they would not have done something based on the evidence right at that moment. I am very sorry this has happened to you and your family. Welcome to YT. Sorry it is under such tragic reasons you are here. |
How awful!!!! Your family must be devestated!!!! |
I'm so sorry for your loss. :( |

I'm going to bit my tounge on the situation regarding the neighbors and the dog and reprecussions, because I don't have anything nice to say. and as the saying goes, "two wrongs don't make a right." I am very sorry that this happened and my heart goes out to you and your family and what you are having to deal with because of such a horrible, senseless tradgedy. |
Seems like this is not a new problem with the dog--if he has been acting agressively towards your girls for years, then extreme caution should ALWAYS be excercised around it. |
Sorry for your loss. I'm not sure why you weren't supervising your doll (in your yard) if you knew the dog was aggressive. (even in his yard caution should be taken) I honestly don't see why they should pay. It's really sad and I'm really sorry but the facts are the facts "the mutt" (I don't like that term) was in his yard. :( I don\'t mean to be mean or anything but I\'m looking at it from another angle. Don\'t mean to give you more pain but it should be a lesson learned. :( sad one. |
Oh, what a terrible thing to happen! Unfortunately, unless there was a witness, there is no proof that your puppy didn\'t climb through the fence on her own and go into the neighbor\'s yard. So I doubt if you could win if you filed a suit against the neighbors and you would be out the expense for an attorney. I would certainly document every time the dog growls or appears aggressive to you or your daughters though. And be careful! Make sure the fence is strong enough to contain that dog so he can\'t get into your yard and hurt your family. |
I\'m so sorry for your loss. |
