| Thanks for educating me...but now every dog owner pisses me off! Yorkie Talk, you have taught me sooo darn much about things! but now every time i see a bad dog owner, or see puppies for sale along the road, or hear about a dog PTS because the owner thought it was too aggressive i just almost can't hold my tounge. must be how you all feel when someone doesn't know better and asks questions on here that make you all upset and you have to burst out to say something. A lady today was talking about putting down her boston terrier because it attacked her other dog and she fell off a porch and broke her wrist trying to break them up. i'm thinking you just took a dog's life because you are too stupid and ignorant to learn how to train that poor thing properly. i was so mad i could barely listen to her talk and just wanted to scream at her for her lack of care and casualness with which she talked about putting him down. then the other day my heart broke when i saw puppies for sale on the side of the road, a year ago i wouldn't have known any different and now it makes me sick and then the stupid neighbor lady's dog barks all the time and it's got seperation anxiety and it's just a poor messed up rescue they found in a park. God bless her for trying to save it, but come on and take a training class or read or something learn to save it and train it lady!! and then there's my sister in law who has a boxer mix that before having Sadie and caring more about dogs i used to hate him, he was so stupid i thought, always jumping on people and barking and whining if he had to be put outside. no manners nothing. my MIL hates him as well. so at this b-day party for my niece who turned 4 i decided to Stillwell him, i used her hand signals for sit. and every single time Buddy sat. i got him to shake. i got him to stay and i got him to listen to me and not chase their cat (whole nother speech). anyways he's super smart and not at all stupid and he just needs to learn how to behave. and the horrible part, SIL refuses to try a puppy class. for one thing which i can't blame her for, she's in debt and broke, but still at least read a book from the library and learn to teach him better. people are starting to piss me off and it's all your fault YT. you have created a dog loving, ignorant people hating monster. AND I THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR IT! |

| Yeah I hear ya.. Try working at a vet and having tons of people come in with dogs, and they only want the rabies vaccine ( bc thats the only one that the city requires) and trying to beg them pretty much to get all the other vaccines...and trying to tell them NOT to take your 3 months old un vaccinated puppy in the grass, outside, or to a dog park!! And having them look me in the eye and say NO, then a week later bringing in their parvo infested dog!!! It's sad bc it happened soo many times!!! People like us that have an education on what it takes to own a dog is frustrating because all we can do as people is to talk. To tell them what they are suppose to do as a resonsible dog owner.. and it is up to them if they listen or not. Some listen. some dont and some just dont care. I have my CVT , I LOVED working at the vet and working with animals, you can really meet some good people, but I couldn't handle the bad side. So many times I put out my own money to people that needed it, and I didnt do it for them I did it for the dog. I could not handle seeing a dog that needed something and wasnt going to get it bc of the OWNERS fault, I tried soo many times to make a difference and I just ended up getting frustrated and hurt and poor lol Thats why I think I cant be a vet tech... Oh well you win some you loose some!!

i hate that he might get rehomed again because her family doesn't have the ability to take care of him, why did they get pets to begin with, they have 6 kids total and now a dog and a cat because they think all kids deserve a family pet to care for, but the kids don't care for the pets and the parents fight over how to care for them so it's madness and they have out of control pets. just makes me angry.

| Yes, it's truly amazing just how many owner's haven't a clue to pet ownership! It's so sad, for both the pet and the owner. I think most of the dogs in pounds are there because their owner's had no idea how to raise a dog. |

| i think so too, i raise mine like i'm raising a child, but you have to discipline just like a kid, you can't let them get away with things when they are babies you lay down the rules right away and teach them everything. |

| LOL!!! I understand how you feel! I use to be ignorant also to a lot of things in relation to getting pets and keeping one. I have been reading and preparing for my future furbaby as if I'm preparing to give birth to my first child. There should be a book titled "What to Expect When You're Expecting a Furbaby" for human parents to be. Most of the breed books all have the same info...standard how to bring a puppy home and take care of it. But none of them relate to people like me who look at the pet as my new furchild instead of just a dog that is in my home. I now know what NOT to do and I'm sure I'll learn even more as time goes by. |

i'm sure you already knew that from your reading and research, but i had to mention it because it's so hard not to fall into the babying trap and get a little carried away with treating them like a real baby and not a doggie. i had to recall my research and reading and remember not to totally spoil Sadie because i also want her to be a good dog and well socialized and behave properly like a dog and not a brat. lol but man she's still slightly spoiled and totally a baby to me just teach them right from wrong like you do a human baby, and you will have NO troubles at all, and btw congrats on the new furkid and good luck

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | There's an old saying ignorance is bliss, and you have learned first hand this is true. Being ignorant is not the same as being stupid, ignorance is just not knowing enough about a certain situation, and we are all ignorant in different areas. It actually hurts to know about certain things, and I believe that is why many people turn a blind eye to things. I'm glad you are becoming more aware, and the next step to learn is to separate the evil from the evildoer. For example, I hate puppy mills, but I don't believe that evil people are running them; many are good people trying to earn a living and provide for their families, and think of dogs like they do any livestock, and don't realize that the domestication of dogs means that they have special needs. On the other hand, I have a hard time with puppy brokers, who know the dogs should be kept in better conditions, yet continue to buy from millers and auctions and then resale these dogs through online sites. Once you know better, it's important to do better.

Thanks! You are so right and I should have mentioned that point too. I TOTALLY understand that. I do plan to attend trainng classes with her after I get her, and when she is old enough, because I do believe in good behavior.

i'm so glad that i realized that you are a sweet heart and simply just passionate about dogs. i used to be scared to death to see you post on my threads because i didn't take the time to know you as a person and realize where the drive and the force behind your posts came from. now i understand you much better and i think we are actually on the same team and have been all along and didn't know it. thanks for the wisdom and for being patient as i learned these lessons. i always tried to agree and learn from everyone. but sometimes i felt backed into a corner and my only choice was defensiveness. i'm glad i put my gloves down and actually took it all to heart. you were always just trying to help and i was ignorant at the time and didn't want to be corrected, the exact same way others now feel when i might suggest a new training method to their ignorant ears. it doesn't always go over well at first, but through kindness and persistence i hope to make a few breakthroughs. thanks Nancy!!

We're going to training classes soon as well, just waiting on all those darn shots and it's taking longer because i'm making them split them up more. totally worth it though for a healthier pup.

I'm glad you are willing to consider other people opinions, and this means that you will continue to grow as a person. Never stop learning, that's when you really get old! You have many qualities that will make you an excellent advocate for dogs and improving their kennel conditions, and I hope puppy mills are a thing of the past when you are my age! You also realize how it doesn't help at all to receive a post that just makes you feel defensive, and so the pressure is on you to reply with posts that don't do that, and set a good example for the rest of us!

| A dog owner has to be indifferent to their dog, unresponsible for their dog or neglectful to their dog to pi$$ me off. The little things dont bother me because we all have different ideas on pet care.

| i understand all of this but some people on some forums[ not just this one] can be so set in their way is the right way that you feel you are wrong. I don't agree in PTS animals because they pee on the carpet and haven't been trained or any of those other things. I try to remember that my circumstances are different than so and so's circumstances and go from there. If you let it get personal it takes the fun out of sharing you love for your pets with people on these forums. And for me since I can't leave home, forums like these give me a place to learn, and socialize, something my health doesn't allow me to do.... Now if i could just make or figure out the right decisions for me and my dog I would be in heaven.....getting him early threw us off a bit LOL Kim |
