I understand how you feel! I use to be ignorant also to a lot of things in relation to getting pets and keeping one. I have been reading and preparing for my future furbaby as if I'm preparing to give birth to my first child. There should be a book titled "What to Expect When You're Expecting a Furbaby" for human parents to be. Most of the breed books all have the same info...standard how to bring a puppy home and take care of it. But none of them relate to people like me who look at the pet as my new furchild instead of just a dog that is in my home. I now know what NOT to do and I'm sure I'll learn even more as time goes by.
