YT 1000 Club Member | I also laughed at the corkscrew thing!! I wonder if you could kind of watch and see if the owners are ever outside and maybe just casually walk by and happen to notice they have a Yorkie and so do you etc. Try to just be able to strike up a conversation with them and see how that goes. You might be able to get more insight on how they feel about the dog or the situation without making enemies. Knowing a few facts before re-acting can't hurt. |

| Could you not write them a letter letting them know your a little worried, letting them know you have noticed they have gave the yorkie water and shade which is good but ask them if they did not know that a yorkie should not be out in the hot sun that long? Do not put who the letter is from and maybe you could post it my mail so thay dont see u popping it through the letter box haha!! Maybe this will wake them up alittle in a friendly way letting them know you can see the good things they have done but maybe they didnt know you cant leave a yorkie out that long and it opens there eyes that people have noticed with out gettin animal control on to them? just an idea hehe!! good luck keep us updated

| Update I saw the dog out there three times late this afternoon and evening. The first time I went by it was wondering in that figure eight motion with its tongue hanging out. I went back by twenty minutes later and it was doing the same. I then went back my an hour and a half later and still the same. I can't believe the little guy has that much energy even if it is a Yorki! I am still concerned and I think I will wait until Saturday when I am not working and can monitor the situation and call animal control when I see it out there. Hopefully they will talk to them and maybe they will start keeping it inside more. I will let everyone know what happens! Thanks! |

| I am going to say something that all of you well intended people won't want to hear. But your yorkies are couch potatoes. Of course they pant, when you get them outside. They lay around all day in the air conditioner. I am not saying that what these people are doing is right. But remember your farm history. Animals need exercise. Some like to be outside and need to expell energy. I have a 2 1/2 lbs male yorkie, that goes outside with me every morning to do chores. I am outside 3-4 hours. He is with me the whole time. Summer, winter and in between. Today it was 85 here. I had a hard time getting him to come into the house. He wanted to stay out side. As we are on a farm and way off of the road, it is safe for him to be out. We do Agility with the dogs. Even in the summer evening heat, we go to lessons and practice. Some of those little , yorkies, poms, poodles, boarder collies, have a ball. Remember not all people were raised in town , where things are restricted. Some people are still living back at our long ago roots. Maybe we need to try to experience those things again. I know that you all didn't want to hear this, after getting all up set over this yorkie. Just my opinion. |

In my opinion - your comments are way out of line here. We are trying to help this man and this dear yorkie. Not justify why someone would tie up a dog We don't need to go back to roots -- when people know better, they should do better - not regress!!

| I would be tempted to go get him and take him in my home, then when they return, take him to them and tell them he was very hot, and you was concerned about him. Maybe suggest if they are interested in rehoming him..

| People know what they are willing to do. Some people would take the dog, some people would not. But it is pointless to begin talking to them, and then take the dog. Since it's Tennessee and I don't know what these neighbors are like, I don't think its fair to give advice. If it was me, I'd offer to watch the dog during the day so it doesn't have to be outside (and they might just decide they don't want it anyway). Unless they are scary rednecks in which case I would just CONSTANTLY call animal control! I grew up in Atlanta and understand that some people are stuck in the mindset of "ME PERSON, HIM DOG. DOGS STAY OUTSIDE, DOGS ARE SECOND CLASS CITIZENS" (Half of my family still live in the south, that was not meant to be a mean generalization. My sister calls me all the time with stories like this about her neighbors ) Some people don't understand YORKIES ARE NOT DOGS..... They are little furry children Good Luck! | Yorkie Talk is a forum where people can openly discuss issues that concern Yorkshire Terriers. I joined this forum to learn more about this breed and to meet people who love dogs. I decided to visit this thread again to find out what happen to the dog. I noticed someone called me stupid because of the suggestion I offered to ctvol. We can disagree without attacking someone that provided a different suggestion. I suggested the neighbor talk to the owner before calling the Humane Society. Also, I did mention if the neighbors were hostile people then just call the Humane Society. Sometimes people do inappropriate things out of ignorance. We cannot steal someone else's dog because we do not like how they choose to raise their dog. All around the world people treat dogs differently based on how they value dogs in their society. The only way to stop the abuse of animals is to educate people. Last edited by Lovely05; 07-26-2008 at 02:30 AM. |

| I think the words STUPID, IGNORANT, HEARTLESS, NON CARING should be bleeped out when anyone uses them on this site. People use them way to much. This thread is all about helping a little one and should remain that way .. I hope a solution is found soon and I hope this thread doesnt get closed.EVERYONE in this thread is truly interested in the well being of this little thing.. |

| Calling people stupid is nice and good behavior. I did not call anyone on this board ignorant. |

| I agree. Calling people stupid, ignorant, heartless, and non caring should be bleeped out. Also, I think sickco should be added to the list. I think this site should be about helping and informing people about the care of the little ones that should be the upmost concern. I was misquoted. I never called anyone ignorant. I said people do things out of ignorance. I did not say confront someone over the mistreatment of a dog. I think you should inform someone on the proper way to take care of an animal without being demeaning and maybe create a bond between two Yorkie lovers for the best care of the little ones. | I went by the home yesterday and saw the little Yorkie. I will post part of what I wrote to ctvol in an e-mail. Well, we drove by and saw the little one. I did notice another dog that is a large breed that was outside, un tied just laying down near their shed/garage. I then saw the little Yorkie. That is definitely a Yorkie. He/She was laying down when we drove by, so we did not see any movement. We did notice the steal chain that is dangling from a tree/line that he/she is tied to. We also saw the 2 buckets they have out for I assume water and food. However, these buckets are way too big for the little one to get into. I did notice that 1 bucket was tipped over with it looks like nothing coming out. Is this what you have witnessed? We did see the igloo, however, my main concern is that with the chain, how is he/she able to go completely inside the igloo for protection and comfort? From first glance, the situation did not look that bad, however, the more we analyzed everything (the buckets, chain, how he/she would get into the igloo) we realized the situation is a little rougher than we thought. I am unsure why they tie him up, but leave the larger dog free. I also do not understand why they would take in a small dog and tie him/her up outside, either. If you feel comfortable, I would suggest maybe an anonymous letter stating/suggesting some things (politely of course) on how to maybe make the situation a bit better with supplying some information on the Yorkie breed. --I then offered that if the situation was to not improve or get worse, he could call Animal Control. The situation was not 'terrible' so to say. It just looked a bit off as I do not understand why the dog cannot stay indoors. Any added advice would be great!

| I don't understand why people get pets then treat them so deplorably! A long time ago, I stole a dog that live in conditions even worse that the ones you described. I knew stealing was wrong and illegal, but the treatment of this animal was a worse sin. Tiki lived a great life with our family for 14 yrs. I think God for game me.
