They lay around all day in the air conditioner. I am not saying that what these people are doing is right. But remember your farm history. Animals need exercise. Some like to be outside and need to expell energy. I have a 2 1/2 lbs male yorkie, that goes outside with me every morning to do chores. I am outside 3-4 hours. He is with me the whole time. Summer, winter and in between. Today it was 85 here. I had a hard time getting him to come into the house. He wanted to stay out side. As we are on a farm and way off of the road, it is safe for him to be out. We do Agility with the dogs. Even in the summer evening heat, we go to lessons and practice. Some of those little , yorkies, poms, poodles, boarder collies, have a ball. Remember not all people were raised in town , where things are restricted. Some people are still living back at our long ago roots. Maybe we need to try to experience those things again. I know that you all didn't want to hear this, after getting all up set over this yorkie. Just my opinion.
My Yorkies love it out side, But I only let them out only with me no more then 15 minutes at a time in the heat. I also live on a farm and we are way back from the road. But they are still not safe to be out side there are hawks, owls, fox coyotes. Not safe at all. My sons dog got out of the kennel thats where he would put him when he let him out to potty, and just to be out for awhile he was a boxer mix. he got out of his kennel even thou we lived way back from the road, he chanced it but he never made it across. RIP sweet Baby, another stray came here we feed ,it was small and ran lose we found it frooze in the pond where it had walked across the ice and it cracked. no one was home at the time. So No Im sorry I dont agree no small dog is safe out side when not being watched winter or summer. and No small dog should be on a chain period.
