| ![]() I would try to educate the owners about the dangers of putting a little one outside tied up and not supervised. If that didn't work, I would take him. He belongs inside. I don't understand why anyone would get a Yorkie and treat it as an outside dog. They have "hardy" personalities, not hardy consititutions. Not to mention the thought of predators. He is much too vulnerable right now. |

| ![]() You can always send an anonymous letter to the owner of the dog through Dogs Deserve Better Home: No Chained Dogs! I did this before and had letters sent to the owners of the dogs. It helped somewhat. They ended up getting rid of one of the dogs. I couldnt save both but at least it helped one more dog ![]() Email DDB and ask them to send a letter or sometimes even better they sometimes get an area rep to go out to the house and talk to them info@dogsdeservebetter.org

| ![]() KNoelleV, I appreciate you coming by and seeing what I was talking about. I am concerned about the large buckets also which are way too tall for the dog to get food or water from if that is what they are for. I did see the dog on the line when I left work yesterday morning and then late in the afternoon on my way home. There is no doubt that it stays out there a long time. I'm sure these dogs are tougher than a lot of us are giving them credit for but I am only going by how I treat my dog as opposed to how this one is being treated. Many dogs are tied to chains but that is no life for any animal in my opinion. The fact is that I see the Yorkie out there just about every day and its always right there in my face and I can't put it out of my mind. I still think that calling animal control and at least having them give the people a visit is one way to anonymously get the word to them that someone thinks that they are leaving a small inside do outside in the heat for way too long and that they are also concerned about it having to get food and water out of those buckets. Maybe if they get a visit and know that someone is watching then they will start to take better care of it. It's just a thought! I may do something about it today. I'll check back in later. |

Also, I don't like hijacking someone else's thread. Personally, my yorkies are outside a lot more than most. My female would live out there if I would let her on nice days. I have a fenced yard in the city. She's safe out there when I'm home. No little dog should be tied to a chain for a number of reasons and this what this thread is about. If you're leaving your yorkies chained on your property than your part of the problem too. ![]()

YT 1000 Club Member | ![]() I do feel for this yorkie if it's just left out and no one is checking on it or home all day long. How big do you think this yorkie is? If it's as small as roxie I can't imagine leaving her chained out all day by herself. But my daughter has a husky that has to be chained when outside. She'll bolt and could end up on the highway or get into some sort of trouble, she's a runner she loves to run. But when she's out she wears a tracking devise and she has access to plenty of fresh water (I even put ice in it during the day) and food. She can go in and out of the garage and we run a fan in the garage for circulation. But I'm also home during the day so if she starts stirring around I'm here and go check on her. If I leave then she's inside and not left out. If it's too hot we bring her in frequently to cool off. She's pretty content outside and doesn't mind the leash, it's long and she can get around quite a distance. Depending on the circumstances the animal has is weather or not it's cruel. I also remember one time when hubby had an English Pointer that would run and run and run and just chase birds all the live long day. He was for a specific purpose and was quite difficult to train other then for hunting so he was kenneled alot of the time. Well a neighbor thought we "kept him in a box" in the garage and called animal control on us. They came out and observed the situation and said there was nothing wrong with what we were doing. They also said that some folks have a hard time with the kennel training ideas. All I'm saying is I agree for a small dog it's not a good idea to leave them out all day alone. Every animal that is domesticated should have proper care that suits the breed. Hope I'm not rambling too much just wanted to share a few thoughts. If there's a concern for this small dog, just call animal controll and let them check it out. Last edited by roxies_mom; 07-26-2008 at 09:38 AM. Reason: just adding something |

| ![]() Not trying to be ugly so dont take this wrong but, if you think this is a bad situation GO TALK TO THE PEOPLE. Dont let it go on another day. They may be doing the best they can and need a little help. Dont call anyone, go talk to the people. If they are decent and you can do something to help, great. If not then call somebody and report them. But stop talking about it and do something. Time is wasting.
