She has an appointment on Tuesday @ OSU and the doctor she's seeing was SUPPOSED to have contacted me back so I'd know what to expect in the way of what procedures they will likely need to do based on her current symptoms and records our local vet faxed over....ballpark figure as far as preliminary expenses, etc..... but I haven't heard anything yet and it's after 4pm.... <<grrrrr>> I've called 3 times.....

| Dena, have you read the thread that Wylie'sMom posted about nutrition? I think she could help you with a low sodium diet. It is so great that you have an appointment by this coming tuesday, and I know you want to do everything you can to keep her strength up until then. With the Lasix, perhaps you should ask your Vet exactly how much fluid Nat should be getting while she is on it. If, for example, he says 8 ozs. per 24 hours - you could pour that amount into a measuring cup, and dole it out from there. That way you could keep track of the exact of amount of water she is getting. This would avoid over stressing her system with too much fluid intake. Also, another thought I had - Lasix can cause potassium levels to go out of whack and I do know that potassium regulates the heart beat. In Nat's case, I am sure this factor is very, very important. Can she have banana if you break it into tiny pieces, because it helps to increase potassium levels? Make a list of questions for your Vet. You are so stressed out, that when you phone him, I am sure you forget so many things. I know that happens to me during stressful periods. Please know that I am thinking of you all the time. If your beautiful little girl is not ready to give up yet, then neither should you. If your Vet feels it is hopeless and she is suffering, trust me, he will tell you. Until then you fight the good fight Girl; I and all of us here are right behind you. Hugs, Lauren

| Dena~ I know this will probably make me sound either obsessed or completely insane, but is Natalie getting up at all to pee? It doesn't sound as if she is. What I was thinking is that maybe you could do what I used to do with the babies that had heart surgery. We had a gram scale, and would put a diaper on it to weigh the diaper when it was dry (we knew how much they weighed since we did it all the time, but you have to start from scratch). Then, we'd diaper the baby and when the diaper was wet, we'd remove it, weigh it and what it weighed (minus the amount of the diaper dry) was how many cc's of urine they put out. Maybe you could put a diaper under Natalie and measure her output and the dr. could better determine how much fluid she should take in each day. I'm sure with the way she's breathing too, she's losing fluid that way too. I'm so sad over this situation, i'm just trying to think of anyway I can to help her get better. Her picture today is so sweet and beautiful. Tell her how much we're all praying and hoping the best for her! My dh is going to see me crying again and make me get off the computer .

Okay.... called the doc..... (I can't think... ugh!) How many ounces in a quarter cup??? <sigh> - - - and dang it....... I didn't take your tip on writing a list of questions and just got off the phone with her AGAIN..... OMG - (sheesh) - - I was going to ask, "water or pedialite" - I have both. As for bananas... she won't take ANYTHING on her own, so it has to fit through the syringe.... I do have onhand some Gerber banana juice w/ yogurt.... the sodium is not too high - - - - especially if I dilute it a bit... What do you think?

She's not really getting up on her own to pee.... but she's not peeing while laying down either..... every 20 minutes or so, I go over, pick her up and hold her up on her wee pad.... she pees almost every time.... If I had a gram scale, I could just weigh the wee pad, no? I only have a mail scale.... ounces.... would that easily compute?

| I think that would work perfectly. Are you going to do ounces or grams?

| It will have to be ounces since that's all my scale reads.... the pad itself weighs just 1/8 of an oz.... I put a fresh one down, marked the time, will jot down input and see how it works.... thank you!

2 oz sure doesn't seem like much.... but that's what the doc said as far as fluid input in a 24 hour period..... wow.... so yep.... AGAIN, my fault.... since I'm certain I've been giving her TWICE that..... ugh!!
