Medical Procedures Question.... Natalie is sick again... :(

Years ago, I had a little Chihauhua that I adored that was born with spinal defect. Atlanto-axial subluxation was the technical term. Essentially, her neck was severed just below the base of her skull. She needed neurosurgery very quickly. Needless to say, it was done. Twice. To the tune of $4,800.00 and change plus follow up therapy. From personal experience, I know how far a person goes for these babies. Angelina needed 24 hour supervised care after her second surgery because of continuing neuro deficits that caused paralysis. She is now living with a Veteranary Technician who works at The Neurological Clinic.

We do what it takes, and we help others to do the same, if we can.

OMG - (sheesh) - - I was going to ask, "water or pedialite" - I have both.

As for bananas... she won't take ANYTHING on her own, so it has to fit through the syringe.... I do have onhand some Gerber banana juice w/ yogurt.... the sodium is not too high - - - - especially if I dilute it a bit...

What do you think?

I've been gone a few hours, so was catching up here now. I put a call into my own Vet to ask him about your question concerning Pedialite. I did not want to offer advice on the subject, because it is so long since I have had to use it. I explained to him that Natalie is on Lassix. He assured me that the Pedialite is safe to give her, and will help offset the Potassium loss.
Do you have an Emergency service near you, in case Natalie needs it over the weekend? I wish I lived near you, so that I could be of more use, like babysitting her while you took a nap/walk.

Excellent idea!!!!!!!! I have never put up anything for sale on this site. Can you start a thread, like yesterday, so we can get this going? I need TONS of bows. Mango destroys them on a daily basis, and seeing as this is the only thing I can put on her, I need a good supply.... she's a nekked girl and refuses to wear anything other than a bow and harness.

We could link to this page on the Bows For Natalie thread, and in others as well, like Off Topic/Sick and Injured, etc.

Thank you so much for checking on that for me Lauren... I'm going to dilute the banana juice with the pedialite 1/2 n' 1/2 and hopefully that will do her some good.
Yes, we have several after hours or 24 hour clinics closeby - - - we've had middle of the night ER runs twice already since Natalie has been with us.... just pray we don't need them!
You're doing so much just by being where you are..... besides.... sleep is overrated!

I only have a mail scale.... ounces.... would that easily compute?

Dena~ yes, you could weigh the wee pad first and subtract the weight of that. I'm thinking that a scale that weighs in ounces wouldn't be accurate enough (too big of a measurement.....1 gm = 1 cc. but an ounce is a lot more than a gm. Maybe you could rent one from a medical supply place? I wouldn't think it would be too expensive.
