2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | You need to get her use to the grooming tools and being handled. You'll want to work with her on her "sit, stay and lay down" commands. Than start with just soft strokes with a slicker bush when she is in a calm state maybe laying in your lap. Reward her with Cheerios when she is sitting and remains still and does not fuss. Tell her she a good girl and stroke her head. It will take lots of time and lots of stressful moment for both of you in order to get her to the point that she will no longer fight with you. Are you using clippers on her ? I have some grooming tips on my web site below that shoud help. Grooming - Dawn's Yorkies

| No I am not using clippers on her, I leave that to the groomed. I just brush her every day and bath her once a week. I have been brushing her almost every day since we got her. She seems to be getting worse instead of better. I have been working on the sit, stay, down commands, she is so stubborn will only sit if I have a treat in hand. Also she will NOT come unless a treat is the reward. As soon as the door opens she darts out and will not return, I have chased her around the neighborhood countless times. I am so scared that she will get lost. I am at my wits end with her. I have had many other dogs and they were much easier to train. |

What do you use to groom her? Oh my I would be scared to death that she will get hurt when she get out! Please be careful.... in a cense by you chasing her you have made it into a game for her. It like yay door open means run and play time. The worse thing you can do is to chase them. god forbid what if you chase them right in front of a moving car. That is why training is so so important. You may want to try some leash / umbilical cord training with her. It will help in so many ways. You will have much more control of her when training her plus it will help if you leash her before you open the door and make sure she is sitting back away from the door before you open it. You can use the treat to bribe her into doing what you want but dont treat her until she has done it several times. Just knowing that you have it in your hand is helpful. If you look on my site I also have some tips on training, including the leash training that may be helpful.

| Right now I am grooming Princess Sophie in my lap. Since we are just brushing and combine that works for us. I heard from another member that using the comb first was key. A brush can't reach down to the fur right next to the skin so a comb first, with the tines that are further apart is the best way to start. I also begin at her bottom and I give lots of treats during the process. I do only give her one at a time so it takes a bit longer but she is much more cooperative. We comb and brush twice a day and remember never do this with completely dry hair. It's best if you also use a detangling spray. Just a little as you don't want to soak your puppy, then it's really hard to comb out. Be patient, this war isn't won overnight but at almost 4 months old, Princess Sophie is doing really well in this area. Practice makes perfect. You'll do fine!!

| I use a wide tooth dog comb and then a smaller comb to get the mats out once the have been loosened I also use a slicker brush but she really hates that. She is worse about her face. I thought these dogs liked to get pampered, not her... |

| She loves to be chased, my grandkids started that. She just loves to go outside so that's. Why she darts out the door. Now before I open a door she has to wear a leash. When I walk her she pulls like a Husky. Would it b wise to get her a harness so she is not pulling on her little neck? |

You can try the type of de tangle comb (Matt Remover Comb) that I use. Its one without the razors. It will not cut the hair. You need to watch if you do deside to get one because there are once with razors that will cit the hair. You dont want that. You use is with wet hair and by gripping the hair at the root before you gide it through the hair in an downward and than upwards motion. I love it, they work great. http://dawnsyorkies.weebly.com/uploa...90602_orig.jpg

| Do a little at a time through out the day and treat with each grooming. I used boiled chicken. Teddy used to be horrible even mean bitting. I began by running the coat over his body then giving him some chicken. I kept doing this, brush, then treat, touch comb to face then treat. After about a month teddy loved grooming. He now lies down and let's me run clippers over him. |

| Try this, and will take some patience. Find a good brush recommended by good pet store and begin using the back of the brush. If your dog likes to be petted this should work. Once settled down start turning the brush over and using the brush normally. Ruger hated baths and being brushed. Now when I hold up the brush he jumps in my lap and when I run the water he jumps in the tub. Yes, he does run around like a maniac after his bath, but I now throw a towel over him immediately after bathing and dry him off as best I can. I start brusing him before he's completely dry, and I gave up using a dryer. He wouldn't stand for that at all. |

The Madan pin brushes I sell have pins that are beveled @ the end, so if you run it up & down your arms, it doesn't hurt or leave scratch marks. The pins also penetrate the hair down to the skin, so it's able to brush out tangles w/out hurting their sensitive skin. You also need to be using a fine toothed comb to catch all the tangles before it becomes a matted mess. The 4.5" Mustache Comb is a must have & the fine side is like a flea comb, so it will catch all tangles & combs out eye gunk. Please let me know if you have any questions, I'll be happy to help!

I hope your pup is doing better. [QUOTE=mimimomo;4180289] I have yet to find a slicker brush that doesn't scratch, it does hurt! They're designed to remove dead hair from shedding breeds, not to be used on single coated delicate hair. QUOTE]

| My dogs hated being brushed too until I got the Madan pin brushes from mimimomo. It made all the difference in the world, and now they just relax and sit still when I brush them.

| You might wanna get her used to being groomed before it turns into an all out war You don't want them to get into a place where they run or become aggressive when they see the grooming tools Make sure that what you are using isn't painful what is comfortable for you might not be comfortable for a five pound dog Try treats during the experience Have someone distracting her while you are grooming her with some treat food little chicken bits or even some peanut butter on a finger talk to her while you're grooming her in a calm quiet voice You want Zen .... not hyperactivity My guys like the brushing part The actual water and drying ..... they hate While I am getting their bath ready they are like always behind be doing their "Whatcha Doin?" Thing They see me getting the towels ... Oh you're getting the towels out and I start running the water .... Oh are you gonna take a bath? but as soon as they see that Hair dryer .... Oh you're takin' out the hair dryer? You don't usually take out that hair dryer unless you're gonna give us a bath They're gone in seconds

| All great tips, thanks for responding. She hates the slicker brush so I don't use that I'll try the other brush that was mentioned. I have another problem with little Nitti, she loves to dig in the couch, any suggestions on how to get her to stop? Right now I just pick her up and put her in time out in her play yard. She started digging to get out treats that she had hidden, now she just digs fir the fun of it. She is going to ruin my couch if she keeps it up. |
