help with puppy marking territory in the house I'm new to this but I was just wandering if anyone can give me some advice on our 7 month old male yorkie? He seems to be potty trained good but he wants to hike his leg up and dribble a few drops in different places around the house usually the kids bedroom. I have read up on this on the internet and it usually says to get him neutured. I'm not sure I want to do that. Can anyone give me any advice on this or is it best just to have him fixed? This is our first yorkie. We had a pug before and she passed away in June of PDE.

I had an intact little male who just marked his heart out and I vowed I would never get another male. My sister had mostly only had neutered males and she said neutering would help if I did it B4 they became too ingrained in the in-house marking. So, the time came to get another Yorkie, I fell for Tibbe an intact 9 mo. old male and had him neutered a couple of months after I got him and he's totally clean in the house after a good potty training regimen. He's 3 1/2 years old now.

I'm going to give this book a try.. my baby is 5 years old and uses a weepad religiously but for some reason I cannot get her to use the weepad for her other business.. she'll literally go wherever and whenever the moment strikes. It's awful

Potty trained That is so true because I taake my yorkie out the same time every morning and now he knows when its time to go out. I have a chow-chow and he has a set time that he goes out so now my yorkie knows when my chow goes out it's time for him to go out.

I'm not sure but in the Behavior section you could find out about that, I'll bet. I've heard it said that it is just an attempt by one male to sort of show his macho to another dog and others think it is an attempt at dominance. I've read that in certain circumstances, the attempted urinator can get his comeuppance from the urinatee - and can get seriously injured. Can depend on the urinatee. With a Yorkie, I would firmly take control of that situation as your baby could get hurt if the Chow is not a pussycat. My very best advice would be to read up on that behavior and watch those two together.

Yorkie Talker | My husband and I got Abby at 6 weeks old. We had very little trouble potty training her and she's so smart we are spelling things so she won't know what we are saying. She's 3 years old now and we don't need to say anything she watches and figures out what we are up to. We love her so much and spoil her rotten. She's very easy to spoil at a big 5 pounds worth, and eyes that would melt anyone's heart. About 4 weeks ago I decided she needed a buddy and we took in a 5 year old breeder dog also a beautiful little 6 pound yorkie. Penny will usually go poop and pee outside on our walks but she also goes on the floor. I love her so much and hate to scold her very much but I get irritated with my baby for doing this. How can I get her to understand she needs to let us know when it's time? We take several walks a day, weather permitting but...... I thank god I have a rug shampooer. It has really come in handy. I also use the vinegar and water on the spots after shampooing. Has the bell worked for anyone? I'm seriously considering that or a doggie litter box. Any thoughts? Both girls hate the rain and Penny will not go out into it. Abby will run out quickly and do her business. We definitely have 2 different personalities here. Any help would certainly be appreciated. Another consideration for the box is our harsh winters we have here. But Abby won't use a pad so not sure about the box either. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard spot love our girls so much! |

Im a bit confused...please help! Hi there, So im new to this website and very new to the whole "pad" concept. The last puppy I had was 20 years ago and I trained her to go outside. Unfortunately, a few years back she passed away and last night I finally got a new lil boy yorkie and I have never done the pad training so I have what may seem like a dumb question but Im going to ask it anyway, obviously when you take the dog outside you wait for them to go potty but when you pad train how do you get them to stay on the pad to go? I bought the puppy apartment because it looks like a promising thing but I know you cant keep a dog crated all the time and Im not quite sure if I should feed him/play with him and then put him in the crate and wait for him to go or if theres a better way. the puppy apartment says it can be used as the only or an alternative potty place so I figured since my doggie is going to be tiny and i dont want him to have to go outside when its wet or raining or just plain yucky I can use it for the most part....please help!!

Hi you guys. This is my first post. I'm kinda still trying to figure this all out. but I have a few questions. My little sophie is almost 6 months and man has it flown by. I got her when she was 2 months from a couple in Nashville and as soon as I saw her I fell in love. She was real sweet and quiet at first but it sure didn't take long for her to develop a spunky but yet sweet at times attitude. She's kinda a tom boy if you get what I'm saying. But I'm head over hills for her. We just have one problem...pooping constantly in the house. She always goes outside to pee but comes straight in and poops. I know she knows she's doing wrong bc if I catch her doing it she tucks her tail and crouches down low while running off. I read from an early post to take her out and just wait until she's done and if she doesn't go put her in her kennel and then take her out alittle later. She's done it the 2 times I've taken her out but it takes her 15 mins of sniffing around first. I also have to take her off her leash and let her go out in a field by herself bc she will only pee while I'm around her. We live in an apartment so I can't just let her lose in the backyard. I hope it helps but if anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them. Last edited by christianmarie; 04-23-2011 at 07:11 AM.

fustrated Okay question....what if he begins to potty in his crate. We take him out to potty on a regular schedule, click and treat him and as soon as we put him back in his crate he goes potty. He's six months old and scheduled to be neutered at the end of this month. Could this be a blatter infection problem? He is such a little sweetheart and I love him to death but I'm worried. He sleeps in our room now in his crate so we can hear him if he gets up and we immediately take him out to potty. I'm just worried about the potting in the crate very much. Any suggestions and is it normal for Yorkies at 6 months to not be potty trained. We have always had indoor dogs and never had as much difficulty potty training them. I did read about this before we picked this breed so I knew it would take time but he is 6 months and I'm a tad worried. Any suggestions or words of wisdom from Yorkie moms and dads.. PS, I love my Yorkie and I will stick with this no matter what I'm just a little tired and looking for experience now.

Hi...I'm new to the site. I have a 5 month old female. I got her when she was 8 weeks old and have tried from day one to potty train her. Basically she has no problem going outside, but she still doesnt get that she is not suppose to go inside. I took a week off from work last month and stayed home during my vacation to see if i could get her going. For the week it seemed great. However as soon as I had to go back to work I started our routine of taking her to my Moms. Unfortunately my Mom does not have the time to watch her like a hawk whenever she is out of her crate, like I would during the first week. By the time I make it to pick her up she has Pee'd inside everytime she's left alone for more than 5 minutes. We tried crate training but my Mom feels guilty keeping her in her crate most of the day. As well as she takes over and hour to eat her bowl of food. So that would mean putting her back in her crate without eating or leaving her to roam with no direct supervision and she uses that time to pee and poop inside as she pleases (even though she has already done both outside). I have given up in the last month feeling like my poor baby will never get it. And I will just have to deal with a life of cleaning up after her. Please can anyone give me some tips or tell me what I'm doing wrong. Because I dont want to give up on my baby
