| I don't know what to do anymore.. Sorry this is so long and repetative.. Just need some help. I am seeing no light at the end of the tunnel right now. Ok. So Zoe is almost 5 months. I am trying to crate train her but feel that I am getting no where. I work from 8:30 to 5:00 but I come home during lunch and take her out and feed her. (that's another thing, I think I am feeding her too much. She poops about 4 times a day. Sometimes, right after eachother on my living room rug) So, I take her out in the morning, feed her, take her out before I leave then she goes in her crate till 12. I do the same thing at 12. Sometimes she will poop when we are outside, other times she poops on my rug. When I get home from work, I take her out, she pees and I have waited up to about 10 minutes for her to poop and she just wont, But as soon as we get inside, she poops. On my rug may I add. lol Another issue I am having with her, She won't come to me when I call her.. I have to go on a wild goose chase when I have to put her in her crate. I've tried holding a treat and praising her. Doesn't work. Does anyone have any suggestions on things I can do differently?

| When Max was a puppy he wouldn't come to me when I called him. But he did grow out of it. But I understand your frustrations and I hope someone can help you on here

| Ahhh...honey she is still a baby...it takes time I don't believe in crate training, so I can not help you on that one. When mine were little I left them in a small spare room with a baby gate (some people use an expen) when I left for the day. They had toys, bed, food water and pee pads. Also, mine pooped about 4 or 5 times for quite some while. When she grows up, this will go down to 2 or 3 times. Hang in there |

| Thank you for the responses. I'm not sure how my fiance would feel about that. He is a neat freak. Maybe I should try it out. I'll try crate training for a little longer and see how that works. So it's normal for her to poop that much? I thought maybe I was feeding her too much. Some people suggest 3 times others suggest 2 times.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I don't have all the answers, just wanted to let you know that what I've tried to remember and have read is no two puppies are alike, nor are every owner and their schedules. I too try to crate during the day. I buy what I think is quality dog food. I've been told 1/2 cup of food at a time, and all the water they want up until 6 or 7 pm....depending on bedtime. I also have to be patient. We want them to go sooner rather than later...we're all on a schedule..have to get back "to life" and our busy schedules. I can have Aiden outside with me for hours playing with his brothers. Pongo is 12 yrs old and had never had a problem, and Harley is 11 week and no problems really, the only difference is they're not Yorkies...I don't know why they're harder to train. Aiden has no real pattern or concistancy. He'll go on rugs..pee pads .newspapers, occasionally he'll go outside..very rare,on a pile of clean clothes on my floor that I've just folded... If you're doing the best you can...what more can anyone ask for. Give yourself a break and be patient..Hopefully there is a light at the end of this tunnel. Hang in.:thump:

For me, being that I work, they had to be pee pad trained. They have 2 areas. One upstairs (in there spare room) and One downstairs. They do also potty outside when they go out. Here is the expen that I would recommend (if you do site to store the shipping is free) Walmart.com: North State - Superyard XT Portable Playard and Gate: Gear | |

| Thank you. I haven't been measuring the food so maybe that'll change all the pooping. I am trying to be patient. It's so hard though. I just want her to be trained. I know I am asking too much from her. So i'll take a step back and be a little more relaxed about it all. Thanks.

| Well, right now i am attempting to crate train her. I haven't tried the pee pads. I'll see how crating goes in the next few weeks and then go from there. Quote:

| can you try to psych her out by bringing her in and then turn around and take her back out? I highly recommend pad training cause it at least it will be contained to one area. For her not coming to you, she probably thinks it is a game. In training, our instructor has us literally run up to the dog holding a treat right in front of using using whatever command you have for come and treating. This is to desensitize the dog to run from you when you go to them. She recommends using a word other than come since she feels it a word that is overused for other things. A word could be "front" for example. something else that I've done is turn around and start to walk away...they will come to me at this point. I just asked her last night about what to do if you say "come" and they don't, she said that she goes and gets the dog and literally pulls (obviously gently) back to the point where you first wanted them to come to and treat and praise. This tells the dog that he is too listen and that when he does, he will get treat and praise. In a perfect world this will happen. Hot Rod has had training and tests me at times and Maggie is currently in training. Hope this makes sense. good luck.

| Thank you. I will consider pad training if all else fails. lol I don't really have much room to have a pen in so I will try a little harder at crating and see how that goes. Thanks for the tips on getting her to come. I will try those.

| I think I know where your problem is - You can't give her access to the rug or anywhere else until she goes. 4 times is a lot, mine eat twice and poop twice. But anyway, it seems like YOU know that she needs to go so if she doesn't - pick her up and put her directly into her crate after you walk her when she doesn't go. Then try again later. Only empty dogs get to run around the house! Just remember that. Sometimes they get so distracted outside that they forget why they are out there and then once they come in and it's boring again, they remember She's still young. Mine were like a year old before they stopped having accidents. Just be consistent! Also, I've found there is a difference between letting them go outside and walking them. If I need mine to poop early because we are going out, I just walk them and their 5pm poop is done at 3pm and I don't have to worry about it! As Zoe gets older she will definitely get on a schedule (assuming she is fed on a schedule) and you'll figure it out!

| Thanks Erin. That was very useful. I will try feeding her 2 times a day and see how that works. She litteraly poops about 4 or 5 times.. Yesterday, she pooped outside, then 10 minutes later she had 2 more poops on my rug. that's kind of when I was like OK this isn't working. I do feed her on schedule but her poops don't seen to understand the schedule. Ok so when she doesn't poop or pee outside, put her in the crate for a few minutes and try agian? One more question, I read somewhere today that if she isnt' outside pottying, eating or me playing with her, she needs to be in her crate? I feel horrible leaving her in there while i'm busy cleaning or something. Again, thank you for the useful advice.

Oh, it's helpful to keep a leash on her too if you know it's a time when she's going to need to go out. Just attach a light one to her harness and watch her to make sure she doesn't get stuck on anything. That makes it easier to catch her to put her in the crate and for when she starts to go in the house - startle her by saying AH AH and run outside. When Loki was a puppy I know there was at least one time when I screamed NO, OUTSIDE! and picked up a pooping pup and put him in the yard. I think that was when he finally got it She's only 5 months old. By 10 months her body will have matured a little bit and yeah, she should be going on a schedule. Mine eat at 7&4 and they poop before breakfast and after dinner. Trust your instincts. If they say "Hmm... I don't think she's empty..." - CRATE! Wait like 20 minutes and try again. I know it's frustrating as can be right now but once she is trained it's like they are on auto pilot. I just wait for the bell to ring and I don't have to keep track of schedules any more

| I'm certainly no expert but I've just gone through the coming thing and I've found that the worse thing to do is to chase her. I trained her to come to me by going outside, (which she loves) hiding some string cheese in my pocket & when she got far enough away, I would say "Rio, Come!" It only took about 3-4 times before she realized that "hey, I get a treat if I do that". I said it with enthusiasm too, if I said it firm, she wouldn't do it. Your little one is still pretty small so it might be that she is just too small yet to want to. Mine is much more mindful now that she is a few months older. I got her when she was 6 mos. Now that she's 13 mos. she has changed a bit but she will still do the same as yours, sometimes go out in the pen forever & not go to the bathroom until she comes in. I have watched her pattern & in the morning she'll pee, eat, pee on the pad, then have to go out. Evening is a little more difficult, I just have to watch to try to get her @ the right time. She's on a schedule, usually goes around 5 pm. I have the pad by the door so when it's raining she can go there, that seems to work but she still goes through a phase of going on carpet, then will stop again for awhile. I'm hoping it stops altogether soon. I find watching, the pads & trying to watch the pattern is the key. Also, I let her know that it is "BAD" to go on the carpet. I also use a playpen with her. I've raised a Jack Russell from 8 wks. old who is fantastic & does all kinds of tricks & was not hard @ all to train to go out. Seems like yorkies are just stubborn to potty train. I don't know if any of this will help, I hope so. Good Luck! |
