| Do you guys do a spayed contract?breeders questions Is it really necessary to do this in a contract? What happens if someone doesn't do it? Do we need to follow some laws as breeders of 1 litter a year? Do we need to have a lawyer as a back up? It was my first time and not going so well, lost in translation....... Can you tell me yours experiences? Thanks you and appreciate your time doing it

| I always do an AkC limited/no breeding contract on my puppies. And now with all of the "alternative" registries popping up like weeds, I am just going to have all my babies spayed and neutered before they are placed. That way they will NEVER end up in the wrong hands. I screen as much as possible to place these babies into loving, forever homes. I dont have very many puppies anyway but I just cringe at the thought of a puppy falling into mill or byb'r. I have had people that I thought were great bring the puppy back after they thought things over and wanted to "make the purchase price back by having "just one litter". Just when you think you have found the "right" family, greed gets the best of them. I always explain the contract up front, before I even meet the people. That way they dont waste a trip to my house and I dont waste my time. Even then, there are some people that spend hours with the puppy, knowing in advance the contract, and still balk at the spay/neuter/ AKC limited stuff. Then they get mad because I wont budge, so I just tell them that the puppy is not for them and to keep looking. I even had one person call animal control on me out of vengence. |

| Yep...always. There have only been 2 times that I made the exception. Once was with a boy I placed with someone my family has known a very long time. I know the kind of responsible pet owner she is and left it up to her....but he will NOT be bred. The other exception is the girl that I have (Lexi) that I held back. Other than that, they have left my home either s/n or with the understanding that the new owner will be having it done. |

| I have a spay/neuter contract and is on limited registration and do NOT release AKC papers until I have proof of spay/neuter letter from vet and I can also check online with AKC to see if the pups were registered with AKC. I am up front and honest with those that contact me and I develop a relationship with those that adopt my babies, otherwise they wouldn't be getting one. In the future all my pups will leave my house spayed or neutered! No exceptions! Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers |

| All my puppies are spayed or neutered before leaving my home . I never had peoples complaining about it . If someone ask me for a unspayed female , telling me he or she will have a vet to do it , I send them home without a puppy . There are dishonest persons too among potential new owners so I don't take the risk of letting them one . |

| I think the best thing a breeder can do is to spay/neuter all pups being placed as pets before they go to their new homes. This ensures that the puppies can not be bred. A spay/neuter contract and limited registration isn't always enough...there are plenty of dishonest people out there that do it anyway and register with one of those other registries. My youngest cat came from a breeder that spays/neuters all her pets before placing them. As a buyer, I thought that was awesome! Spay was included in the price and I didn't have to worry with getting it done after I brought her home. I really think only dishonest buyers will have a problem with a breeder spaying/neutering before bringing puppy homes, spay/neuter contract, and limited registration.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | Yes I have a different contract for a pet. I agree that it would be best if all puppies could be spayed/neutered before being placed but many vets don't want to do it before a puppy is 6 months old. Then they do decidious puppy teeth too--instead of putting them under twice. Most breeders can't keep a litter of 5 or 6 until they are 6 months old. And most buyers want their puppies before 3 months of age. Mine don't leave until they are 12 weeks old. I hold onto registerations until I get spay/neuter certificates. Buyer also signs that he understands puppy is pet only and if I don't receive certificate the puppy can be reclaimed by me.... |

| Most vets are coming around to early spay/neuter. My vet does it at 12 weeks and 2lbs. All of my puppies are spayed or neutered before leaving. It's so funny when people call and ask about the puppies. The minute they hear they are neutered it's like... click... they hang up. That tells you right there. Way too many dishonest people in the world. I had one guy try to talk me out of neutering and lowering my price so that it didn't include that. Even if you hold the papers, have a contract etc.... they can still breed that dog. The only way to GUARANTEE that those puppies will be safe from a life in a puppy mill is to spay or neuter before they leave.

| Oh, it also says this in my cat's contract (I guess in the event the kitten wasn't spayed for some reason before being placed)... "Buyer understands that this feline has been spayed or neutered. Or Buyer must spay/neuter said feline after 2 weeks of purchase date, and before 8 weeks from purchase date. Failure to comply with this agreement will result in the buyer owing the Seller an additional $500.00….Buyer understands and agrees if any of the terms in this agreement are disregarded, that Seller may reclaim this feline and any offspring without refund of purchase price, as Seller’s sole property" So there would be a penalty and she could reclaim the cat and any offspring if her contract was broken

| I dont breed but I would have them spayed or neutered before they left. You have to wonder why so many people in the classifieds are selling puppies for cheap without papers, you got to wonder if its because they were suppose to be spayed or neutered first. Or I am sure it wouldnt be hard to find papers of another registry. |
