Thats because there arent any, therefore no need for the DQ in the standard. The only thing that has kept the Skye almost true to the original is that 1:its not a popular breed, 2: the STCA and its members keep an ultra tight rein on these beautiful dogs, 3: extremely limited breeding goes on.

If parti mix Skyes were being exploited like the YOrkie parti breeders are doing, you can bet your boots and DQ would be in effect. But they would do it before the horse got out of the barn.

Yes, they originated here, they were lovingly sent to other countries many good dogs came out of those that were sent. Our Clubs still go strong, our breeders breed true. I myself am passionate about this breed and although may come across on here as a little dogmatic (looking for the right word), have many friends throughout the world, who will continue to breed true. I fear for your bloodlines, but I am sure there are many many many good American breeders, who will continue to told the torch for the Tan little dog with the Blue saddle. My baby sits by my side, I will protect her and her forefathers in anyway I can.

I was very lucky this year at Crufts, there sat at the end of the row, a quiet little stand, not many around bothered to look, but wow they took my eye. The most beautiful silky soft long coated, regal and so very very calm serene dogs. Two prick eared, one dropped all coloured Grey/Grizzle. They are bigger then you think, in as much as weight and length, but short little legs. They are breeding, but only in limited numbers. I hope they don't become extinct. The breed historian is Sine Threlfall, Eilean a Cheo Kennels, Ardvasar, Isle of Skye, IV45 8RU, if anyone is interested in finding out their true history.

I love the Skye breed. My first boy was about 38 lbs as an adult. My girls were a few lbs smaller. They are a healthy breed, not ruined by indescriminate breeding, like the Yorkie has. They are very reserved with strangers. You are lucky to see a drop as these are very rare. My friend just hada litter and believe 7 of the 9 are drop and all are cream. Now thats a RARE litter!! I better not say rare too much or they will be next to be exploited by greeders.

I owned a Skye about 35 years ago. It is a very sweet breed. Back then I had some close friends that showed them. You hardly saw them in the ring back then.

I didnt even show my first Skye as there was no one in AZ that had them and showed them. There are some awesome dogs in the ring now. I love to see them, they are gorgeous!!
I am starting out a new girl this spring. She should be a show stopper!!

You were soo lucky to own them. I have really thought hard and long about getting one, but not for a while, as my William (westie) monster boy, rules the girls in this house, I would like a boy. Obviously not for breeding, just to adore. I have the breeders details in Scotland, maybe oneday.

You lucky thing.....wish I lived by you, would be poppin round your gaff everyday for a cuddle.

They are nice dogs. But some will not get along with other dogs. They are a true terrier, scrappy! I remember a Westie ring years ago. They were supposed to spar them a little and then the whole ring got into a fight!!LOL

I would have loved a Skye terrier at one time. But they are too big for me now. (weight wise, not height).
You do know Greyfriars Bobby was a Skye terrier. Very loyal dogs.

Yeh, that's what I was told, it's their true terrier instincts as you say, good on em. Umm my William thinks he's a scrapper, but he's a screamer! I put my Kiki next to him with a rat and see who bought it out first. Ok just joking, I'll get hung as a dog ratter next. But it is great to see working dogs, doing the job they were bred for, they excel and love to work. Yorkies are fab little agility dogs, if you let em be a dog and not a dog in a dress. Ok Ok I do have a dress for KiKi, special ocassions only, Tinkerbell made it for her, and a darn good dress it is too.
