CO tends to soak into the skin and hair. When I oiled my dog's coat, she didn't appear to be attracting that much more 'dirt' than usual, not enough to make me stop using it for that purpose. For open wounds it coats the wound, keeping the dirt out. The wound should still be cleaned and fresh oil applied daily.

| One thing that I do is to melt a tablespoon of coconut oil in the microwave oven and mix with about a quart of warm water. After giving Ian a bath, I use this as his final rinse. It leaves his hair shiny, but not oily, and very easy to comb.

| OK, dumb question.....do you rinse it out like you would the conditioner? Would you even use a conditioner if you use coconut oil? Thanks!

| I have been dying to try CO but Uni's vet said no bc of her pancreatits. Perhaps I will try it externally the since she always scratches at the same spots. Or I may try the rinse method. I love how coconut smells!

The body metabolizes MCFA differently, so no worry of it causing Pancreatitis. Check with a Nutritionist... they may know more about it. There are so many benefits.... great for people too.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Organic Coconut Oil is AWESOME!!! It is the ONLY oil I will ever fry with!! IT won't turn into acrylamide when you do (which is cancer causing) as other oils will. I also have heard for dogs, the coco chips are great for them. I think that is what they are called. I actually still need to try them! I buy our Coconut oil at Tropical Traditions.

Tropical Traditions is where I buy our coconut oil also, their sales are great. I give it to my gang with their breakfast, 1/8-1/4 tsp each day. I've used it for skin irritations and even leather ear on a foster dog. It's also great to use in cooking, makes tasty coconut shrimp and rice.

| We've been using coconut oil with the girls for over two years. We began using it when Sissy was diagnosed with PLE as it has wonderful digestive healing properties as well. I use about 1/8 tsp per girl per day if I'm using the oil, or I use the ground up chips on their food. The products sold by CocoTherapy are far superior to any other organic I was able to get at the health food store. The chips they sell are not the same as buying coconut chips at the store, so if that is what was used and came out looking like it went in, you should try the CocoTherapy chips. Coconut oil does not digest the same was as an Omega fatty acid. I know of many with pancreatitis that have successfully used coconut oil. I also use the oil in addition to their conditioner. I melt it, mix it together in my hand then rinse as normal. It has made such a huge difference in the condition of their coats! As you might tell, I am a huge fan!!!!

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | CocoTherapy is exactly the company name I couldn't remember at the time of mentioning the Coco chips. I am a member of their F/B page. Quote:
