When is last feeding at your house?

Well, feeding just dry kibble at last feeding (3:30 pm yesterday) did not work either. I woke up this am to a crate full of poo, which Bandit stepped in and tracked it all over the crate, on the toys, in his hair, etc! He also peed in the crate, not just a little either, we're talking TIDLE WAVE! He had no water after 7 pm, and his last outside break was at 10:30 pm, we were out there for 45 minutes, he wouldn't pee or poo. Peanut on the other hand had a clean crate, no pee or poo. I just don't get it. Peanut is younger & smaller in size and seems to have gotten the "picture" on how it's supposed to be, but for Bandit, the "light bulb" has not gone on yet. I know Bandit is capable of holding both pee & poo as I have sat outside/ and walked him for as long as four hours, without taking him inside, I keep him on a lead so I can watch him, and he has done nothing. He plays with the others, drinks water, runs around (all while on the lead), but no potty, so he can hold it, but why is he holding until he gets in his crate, and then cuts loose? How can I reverse his thinking that he is supposed to hold it until he gets put in the crate? Bandit has stolen my heart, but at the same time is stealing my patience as well! Please help someone! I want to know if anyone has had this same experience with one of theirs, and how did it pan out? I know these post are long & tedious, but it helps me to vent, so I appreciate everyone's patience and suggestions.

Update: Went home for lunch @ 11 am, Bandit had peed in his crate, gee, what a surprise. He was only in it for 2 hours, for crying outloud. Anyway, took him out for 20 minutes, nothing, came in put him in the X-pen, went in the kitchen, got a cup of coffee (we're talking 30 seconds), came back, he had pooed in the X-pen. I cleaned it up, with Nature's Miracle, went to throw away soiled paper towels(15 seconds, if that) came back he had peed in the X-pen! I'm thinking when I get home at 3 pm today of carrying him around in my arms, or get a carrier strapped to my chest, for the rest of the day & night to try & break this cycle he's in, what do you thinK?

yes, there's a potty pad in the crate. I tried it with no pad, an old towel, a nice fleece bed,smaller crate, etc. Still he peed& pooped.
I am happy to report a little progess now. I put some "jingle" bells on his collar and put his crate right next to the bed. Whenever I heard him jingle, I woke up. Once I caught him in the act(3:40 am) and verbally scolded him and took him outside to finish. The next night @ 3 am, I heard him jingle and out we went. Sucess with both pee & poo, and a dry crate until 6 am when he woke up again. Last night when I heard him jingle several times, he was just changing positions or had an itch. I didn't take him out and his crate stayed clean from the time he went to bed (11pm until 6 am when we got up). So, maybe we're getting through to him finally. He isn't holding it while we're outside as long as he used to either.

Congratulations! Sounds like he is heading in the right direction. I was reading this entire post and was feeling your pain. The bells on the collar was a great idea. Hang in there!

I agree , My 3 eat homecook meal in the morning, and have Royal Canin available all the time for them , In the evening around my dinner time they get same All Natural plain yogurt and some cottage cheese, Which they love.
And they poo 2x a day.
They r 3,2 yrs and 10 months. 8 1/2, 7 1/2 and 6 1/2 lbs.

Thanks, yes, it was really stressing me out. I have five Yorkies and this one by far has the hardest to teach where to potty. I got one of those chest carrier things and he spent every waking moment on my chest that he was in the house, this past weekend. I was trying to erase his memory of pottying on the floor. I would keep him in the carrier until he began to squirm and then I'd take him outside, he would potty right away, I treated and praised him let him have 10 minutes free run in the house with the others, then back in the carrier.

It taught him a couple of things I think: Go right away, instead of holding it in while in the yard, and waiting to get inside to potty, because you're not going to get the chance to potty inside, and by the time I took him out of the carrier, he was about to bust! He also learned the sooner he potties outside, the sooner he gets to play inside.

It was a long, tiring weekend but I feel like we made some forward progress finally! Bandit also knows how to vacuum now and fix dinner as he had a ringside seat to everything!LOl

It is a lot of work to train them. I think Bandit will catch on fast. The last comment about him knowing how to vacuum and fix dinner had me in stitches! Thanks for your support. I do however think the comment "Bandit will catch on fast" is a mute point, that "fast" ship has sailed! I had him for over three weeks before I saw any improvement. I truly think his being at the breeders in an Xpen (inside the house)on a tile floor, with the potty pads for 4 1/2 months is what caused him to be confused about where to potty. All he knew was to potty on the pads, so my carpet looked like a big potty pad to him, and of course he had a potty pad in the crate at night, "just in case". He wouldn't go outdoors because he thought he was supposed to go indoors, that's all he knew, so he thought that's where it should be done. It will take a long time to reverse his thinking totally, but at least we're on the right track now, I think. Every time he potties outside is one more step in the right direction. Yeah, Bandit probably could vacuum & fix dinner after watching me do it all weekend, maybe I should strap my DH to my chest and he could learn too!

I usually feed Mooney abt 5 to 6 pm (1c.) and she poops shortly after. This was her schedule from her breeder since around 5 months (only once a day) although most people say they shld eat twice a day 1/2c. each; i went ahead and kept the same schedule as she recommended. She has done pretty well w/ this and she snacks all day on biscuits ect..

I have also read they cannot hold their bladders until atleast 6 mo (which is why he goes in crate), so if i were u i would feed earlier so he can poop before bedtime unless u jst can't possibly do that--(like u aren't home yet).

Thanks Mistyrain, I can feed him anytime after 3pm when I get home from work. I have tried as early as 3:30 -4pm and as late as 6:30 pm. I have seen the little bugger hold his poo until 12 hours afterward, which I would not have beleved if I hadn't witnessed it! We are doing better now, we've had three nights in a row with no soiling of the crate during 11 pm -6 am. I have had to take him out in the middle of the night though 2 out of 3 nights, but that's ok as long as he doesn't do it in the crate. I have "upped the value of the night-night crate" ( I have two for him, one in the living room for day time use, and one in the bedroom for night time) in his mind by putting a really soft cushy fleece pad in there and am feeding him at least one meal in the crate. I have not put a fleece pad in the day time one yet. He will still pee in the day time crate when I am gone (no longer than 2 1/2 hours) so maybe the part of not being able to hold his bladder until 6 months of age is the reason, he's only 5 months now. We'll keep at it!

I read through this thread and you're so creative and very patient. "Sir craps a lot" lol. I wouldn't have ever thought of any of these techniques, especially the carrier. Good job I hope little Bandit gets better. I had the hardest time getting my yorkie to know it was ok to go outside, he would hold it the whole time and run inside to the pad because I started with potty pads.

whew..training a puppy is hard! Abbey is 1 yr and 8 lbs>>and is fed at 7am..noon and 5-6p
I feed her Cesar ( wet) about 2 tbsp. mixed with dry food

na week ago..would potty immed after eating. Now all of a sudden..after the 5-6p..doesnt poo until am. She sleeps with us and 2x this wk...pooed by bedrm door sometime in the night.

if I hear her run down her stairs..I grabbed her and take her out..but sometimes she's too quite! she's never barked to go out. Have no idea why the sudden change..nothing has changed? after dinner we walk her for about 45 minutes and play hard? I've heard that some dogs only poo 2x..so maybe she's growing up?!

Well, it's been a while since an update on Bandit, alais "Sir Craps alot". We have had no pee or poo episodes in the night time crate, for about 10 days now. He's going to bed at 10:30 pm following his last potty outting and sleeping until @ 5:30 am (Yuck!). I don't take him out right away when I hear him stirring@ 5:30, I wait for him to start to whine and a few times he has even growled & barked. I'm trying to teach him two things, holding it for a minute or two (that will help later on) and to give me some kind of sign when he needs to go. He's also doing better with the day time crate. No poo in there when I get home, but he is still doing the excitable pee when I get home @ 11 am and then again at 3pm. He is 5 1/2 months now so maybe when his bladder matures a little more, he'll stop with the pee pee greeting I have also switched all five of my dogs to Royal Canine Yorkshire 28. This is all they eat at meals. It seems to have helped cut down on how many times Bandit has to poo in a 24 hour period. He is now pooing 2 x, like morning and late afternoon or early evening. I may have to stop referring to him as Sir craps alot, LOL. I'm not doing the carrier thing on the chest anymore(did that for a few weeks) and I took the bells off his collar as he kinda whines now to alert me at night if he has to go. It's slow but steady, I see improvements every day or so. He is going much quicker when I take him out (he knows he gets a treat when he goes) and he comes running for the treat. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, I'm not there yet but, I can see it!
