| ![]() I don't even know how to start this thread. This week has been so hard for me I just want to go to bed and cry. First of all, all throughout the week Kiwi has had diarrhea and vomiting, and then on Tuesday she had a seizure. I took her immediately to the vet, and they acted like it was no big deal and it happens all the time, which it doesn't to me. It was the scariest thing I've ever seen. Well, then they ran a full blood panel, and it found nothing. Since Tuesday, she has had diarrhea and vomiting (a bit), and I just can't keep up with the mess it's creating. I feel bad for her, but I just can't deal with it anymore. I'm at my wit's end. I'm also not made of money, and I can't keep going back to the vet when they don't find anything out anyway, and it costs me $200 each time ![]() Last night I got maybe 3-4 hours of crappy sleep. I usually get between 8-10. It was horrible. She cried the whole night because I had to have her in the bathroom because she has accidents every 1/2 hour or so. I feel like such a bad mom and just am lost as to what I'm supposed to do, but I cannot afford to spend $1,000 on a dog that I've only had for two weeks. I know that probably sounds really mean, but Kobi is my baby and I've had him since he was a puppy, and I would pay an infinite amount of money for him, but I just feel like I got handed this dog that has so many issues, and now I have to take care of them. I also called her rescue and left THREE messages yesterday indicating I NEEDED to talk to them immediately and got no response. So...she's going back to the vet as soon as they open today, and I'm just leaving her there to get a urinalysis and hopefully a fecal and whatever else needs to happen to make her better, but I just can't imagine how much that bill will be ![]() I'm sure it sounds horrible to talk about money when my dog feels this way, but anyway. Sorry this was so long, and thanks for listening to me vent. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

| ![]() I am not sure if this would work, but if you have a Vet school in your area they may have a free or discounted clinic. There is a member on YT that is in Vet school, maybe she would know. I know when humans have n/v and diarrhea their electrolytes go out of wack and that can cause seizures. Are you giving anything to replace the electrolytes?? One site recommended pedialyte mixed with chicken broth to make it taste better and I saw another product called rebound. I would visit the rescue if possible since you can't get them on phone. Good luck with the vet visit. Maybe you can take a long nap while you pup is there. Keep us posted on your baby's progess. Hope all this ends for you soon! ![]() ps if you have more than one dog, i would separate them until Kobi is better! Last edited by FL Tink; 10-25-2007 at 02:23 AM. |

| ![]() Are they giving you any meds for her? Like Albon or anything to help her upset tummy. You can give her Pedi Lite same thing you give babies. Make sure to buy the six pack so you dont waste a whole bottle. I dont know what all the vet has done for her. I would find another vet if they are charging you a 100 a trip. Unless you are going in the middle of the night. Dont feed her regular food use cooked rice, cottage cheese buy some nutra cal to keep her sugar levels up. How old is this puppy? |

| ![]() I hope they find out quickly what is wrong. I will explain the best that I can what happened to my ten month old yorkie. She was throwing up and had what they now say was several seizures. I did not know that at the time. She would cry and make weird noises. I had no idea what was wrong. 1 month and seven different vets, could not figure it out either. When this started she weighed 6.25 lbs and by the time they figured it out she was down to 2.5 lbs. and hooked up to IVs. We finally took her to a teaching Vet hospital 4 1/2 hours away. She stayed 9 days and they diagnosed her with Idiopathic Epilipsy. All my research says that she probably drank some bad water. This makes soooo much since in our case, because we had taken her for a walk that first morning and she drank a little bit of water out of the side of the road, which probably had some fertilizer or some kind of chemicals in it. This whole episode ended up costing us $7,000 and almost losing our dog. It's not like someone said this will cost you x amount of dollars, everytime we took her somewhere to be checked which was all the time, it of course would cost us. One doctor dx 3 small ulcers, so we would have to syringe maalox down her, and then she would throw that up. I am telling you that water or pediolite is the best thing, make sure you keep the dog hydriated. They finally gave Lexi volume to calm her system down, which worked (she only got a couple doses) and then phenobarbitrol, which she is still on. She is on such a small amount it really doesn't register on the blood tests that she has yearly. The good news is.....This was a little over 2 years ago and she is perfect. The best dog ever. She plays, eats and sleeps. No problems since. She even came home from the hospital with a feeding tube. There is hope. Let me know if I can be of any other assistance. Connie |

| ![]() Besides what everyone else has said, these little ones need to be right there with you. Putting the puppy alone in the bathroom can exacerbate what ever ails him and perhaps even cause it. Some of these babies are very sensitive. I would be coddling him and rubbing his little belly, or where ever he likes to be rubbed. Perhaps wrap him in his little blanky and help him rest with you. |

| ![]() I don't understand why they didn't do a fecal on the first trip to the vet. You would think if your bringing your dog in for diarrhea that would be the first thing they check...odd. |

| ![]() I'm so sorry your going through this right now. My heart goes out to you and I hope your baby gets well very soon. Definately get a fecal done. Like someone else mentioned I truly don't understand why this wasn't done right away. It may or may not show something but your baby could have giaradia or whatever (was only throwing out the first thing that popped in my head). If your vet tries to charge you another $200 for a fecal and urine check, definately find another vet. I just had Paisley at the vet a few days ago because I thought she might have a urinary tract infection. I ended up having three urine tests done and one they had to do something differen't to get the urine, an ultra sound and an x-ray and my bill was around $300. More then anything I hope your baby gets better soon. Both of you will be in our prayers.

| ![]() My Benjamin got ahold of some table scraps a few years ago. He was VERY sick vomiting and diarrhea. We took him into the vet and they gave him some Centrine Tablets (antispasmodic/stops vomiting and the runs) and metronidazole (slows the tummy and tightens everything up again). I gave him the meds with a little yogurt and that helped stop the symptoms. I also have used another anti diarrheal that is in a tube just like what the nutrical comes in but the name escapes me. I think it was called diarsol? It is a prescription as well. I think it is very important as little as these guys are to always concentrate on stopping the symptoms #1. They become hypoglycemic easily. If u can take a sample of the stool in a zip loc to the vet. Ben really appreciates this as he HATES getting the fecal done. (Ben has had colitis / IBD for many years). I have to say in my experience I NEVER use the pepto route. Pepto just doesnt work well for ben. So you may mention the metronidazole and centrine to your vet. I hope this helps u.. |

| ![]() If the vet u went to didn't bother to even do a fecal or give some prescription meds to stop ur babies symptoms I would strongly consider going to a different vet or emerg vet if needed. Some vets are uncaring and in it for the money that is for sure. I have spent probably $2000 on Ben with his colitis before finding a vet that was able to stabilize him. |

| ![]() Unfortunatley this is what comes with owning a dog. If you don't want to pay for her care, please give her to someone who will care for her properly. It's not her fault she doesn't feel well. I understand how it is with money issues but money is nothing in comparison to a life. ![]()

| ![]() I give any new vet one visit to give me a big clue about how they run things. There is a balance in the amount of testing needed. I want a vet that has enough experience that they take things at a moderate pace (I am not gonna spend $600 on a simple ear infection, I will go to another vet thank you). There are good vets and then ones that are in it for the wrong reasons. If your puppy has bad diarrhea and vomiting and they don't even do a fecal or give and prescription anti diarrheals then why bother to go to that particular vet. That just wastes money and endangers the health of our babies. My boys get the same level of care and treatment that I would expect of my own doctor to give me. If they seem like a quack then I leave. |
