I remember another post you made about problems with her back legs not long ago. I've seen a lot of dogs with neurological problems and this really sounds like a neurological issue now more than ever. When it comes to neurological problems, a typical vet often misses symptoms. I would take her to a neurologist (typically a university) and have them do a neurological exam on her and possibly a MRI. It's common to have diarrhea and vomiting after a seizure but not for this long! Did your vet mention the possibility of an inflammatory brain disease which is common to the Yorkie?

In the long run, its less expensive to get the right diagnosis. Here is a list of veterinary neurologists by state and city.

http://www.acvim.org/uploadedFiles/p.../Neuro_Geo.pdf

Your vet will need to call in the referral. Another option is to have your vet call a neurologist and do a phone consultation.

I wish you all the best and will be sending out prayers for both of you!

First off, I want to thank those that have been praying for Ms. Kiwi and thinking about us. I will not address those that said rude things because just so you know, your posts made me cry.

It was never my intention not to pay for her medical treatment, I was more just upset that I keep paying and paying and they never find anything out, and it seems like they overcharge.

Anyway, she went to the vet for almost the entire day today, and they treated her so well she didn't want to come home with me afterwards

I also wanted to say that I think a big reason they didn't do a fecal before was we were so focused on the seizure that we assumed the diarrhea was from that. So she had a fecal done today and has an elevated amount of some bacteria. They put her on an antibiotic, and she gets it for six days, and will hopefully be better.

With regard to her having the issues with her back legs just a week or two ago, myself as well as the vet think those MAY have been "minor" seizures of only some extremities. It sort of makes sense to me, so I will continue to monitor the seizure issues as well as of course the diarrhea which I hope will clear up in a day or two.

Once again, thank you for the kind posts...it really made me feel better. I didn't post this thread to get slammed about not taking care of my yorkie (which I obviously don't believe is the case).

was it cocidiosis? If so she is on albon & 6 days will not take care of it, she will go back. You can buy some here http://www.discountpetdrugs.com/alli52oz.html You will need to treat for 21 days all pets in the house. It may not be, but just fyi. Hope she recovers soon.

Nope. It was campy. But thank you for that information. They did tell me that I need to be careful about her poo and that Kobi doesn't get around it or he could catch it too. I really hope she gets better soon!!!

First of all, all throughout the week Kiwi has had diarrhea and vomiting, and then on Tuesday she had a seizure. I took her immediately to the vet, and they acted like it was no big deal and it happens all the time, which it doesn't to me. It was the scariest thing I've ever seen.

Well, then they ran a full blood panel, and it found nothing. Since Tuesday, she has had diarrhea and vomiting (a bit), and I just can't keep up with the mess it's creating. I feel bad for her, but I just can't deal with it anymore. I'm at my wit's end. I'm also not made of money, and I can't keep going back to the vet when they don't find anything out anyway, and it costs me $200 each time I'm so upset, and I really just want to go to bed and not get up for about two days.

Last night I got maybe 3-4 hours of crappy sleep. I usually get between 8-10. It was horrible. She cried the whole night because I had to have her in the bathroom because she has accidents every 1/2 hour or so. I feel like such a bad mom and just am lost as to what I'm supposed to do, but I cannot afford to spend $1,000 on a dog that I've only had for two weeks. I know that probably sounds really mean, but Kobi is my baby and I've had him since he was a puppy, and I would pay an infinite amount of money for him, but I just feel like I got handed this dog that has so many issues, and now I have to take care of them.

I also called her rescue and left THREE messages yesterday indicating I NEEDED to talk to them immediately and got no response. So...she's going back to the vet as soon as they open today, and I'm just leaving her there to get a urinalysis and hopefully a fecal and whatever else needs to happen to make her better, but I just can't imagine how much that bill will be

I'm sure it sounds horrible to talk about money when my dog feels this way, but anyway. Sorry this was so long, and thanks for listening to me vent. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
did you have a bile acid blood test where they fast for 12 hrs pull blood and then feed and then 2 hrs later pull blood as seizures can be due to liver disease and a lot of yorkies have liver shunt so please have this test done

2 suggestions for anyone going through this:

Always keep pumpkin in the freezer, it's a fix for diarrhea and constipation

I've experienced the same symptoms a few times, as soon as "those symptoms start" I give them 1/2 clavamox and the other half a few hours later... if the symptoms stop it's just a bug I continue the clavamox twice a day for 10 days (small dogs get 1/2 pill). If the symptoms don't stop by shortly after the second dose... hit the VET!

For the experienced: Dehydration can be reversed with a bag of injectable electrolyte replenishment.

I'm not being harsh, it's reality. Dogs are living, breathing beings who need care just like humans. We would NEVER EVER stop to think twice about cost of care if a human child or adult was sick, do why is it different with a pup? If you have no way of paying for their care when they are sick beyond their control, then that dog deserves to be somewhere where they can get the care they need, period. Yea I don't get people either

So sorry to hear about your puppy. First, go to a different vet! Obviously this one doesn't know what he's doing because seizures are NOT normal. I feel for you. You should be excited having a new puppy but this is horrible. Did you talk to the breeder you got her from?

Also, I'm sorry to those who don't agree but a pet is not the same as a child. There are limits. Anyone who has a child can tell you this. In a fire there would be no question over which one I would save first. We've been through this discussion before. If a pet dies you can move on, if a child dies..you'll never ever ever move on. All this is beside the point.

Don't feel bad, you are doing so much for her and doing the right things. Hope they figure out what's wrong. Please try a different vet, those costs seem unusually high to me and they don't know what they're doing. Good luck.

Love

I just went back and read some of your posts. I didn't know she was 7 and a rescue. Sorry you're going through this, you tried to do the right thing and rescue a pet, that makes you such a kind hearted person to begin with. Hope it works out better.
