| Emma Update / Sunday Night EMMA UPDATE...WOW.. WHAT A DAY ! OK... WHERE OH WHERE TO BEGIN? Ok.. first things first...big hugs to all of you who have understood and supported Emma with kind words , suggestions and prayers.... i simply cannot thank you enough! Aside from that one blowup of a post i placed the other day i have been filled with gratitude from 99% of you all! Emma has had a marvelous day.... naturally she is still in the crate most of the day but my mom came over and was loving Emma up for hours which helped her to relax a great deal. She has gone all day without an episode of the arched back and that horrible parallized look where she cannot move her neck. She ate, drank water and even barked a few times at some deer in our back yard! That dog just has no clue that she's small!! Spoke to the vet briefly and she is very VERY pleased with the progress so far. She confirmed that an MRI , while a fantastic tool for more accurate diagnosis, that she would still recommend the prednisone, anti-inflamitory meds and pain management to keep her relaxed. She also said that she knows it is difficult and seems a slow recovery but she is very hopeful that there will be futher recovery as we follow her recommended course of action. You guys have really been a blessing and i will continue to update this thread as the days go on so you can follow the adventure of Emma's recovery! yorkieK9trainer, Mybabe4me, kalina82, daisy mae06 & jrsygal37.... you have all been so remarkable.... I just don't know how to thank you all! oh... and the bestest news.... Mom spoke to Dad, Dad caved...money issue solved!!!! HORRAY!!!!!! So with cautious anticipation I look forward to tomorrow and the hope of a pup who's mood is up! Oh... one more thing.... you all have the greatest cuts for your yorkies.... is that something you do yourselves or do you have a pro do it? more olbear hugs, ken Last edited by OLBEAR; 09-09-2007 at 07:30 PM. |

| Ken, I am so happy that your dad broke and there is no issue with money. That is a super thing. I am so glad that Emma did so well today. It is just so amazing when the start showing a little of their own selves again. Just please keep in mind what your vet said. Now, she is the one you took Emma to last weekend right?? She has only seen Emma once?? You might want her to check her again. How long does she want you to keep Emma on the predisone?? That is keeping the inflamation down in her neck. Once you stop that if this is AAI it is as Babybear's surgeon told me like putting a bandaid on a broken bone it will come back and rear it's ugly head twice fold. Hmm and as I have told you that is what happend to us. Now I have a paralzyed yorkie. Do not get me wrong I love him to death and would never change a thing that I have done for him because god knows what I have given up and gone threw for him.. He is like my own child. And i do not regret a thing. But I do not want to see a post from you in a month or so saying that she can not longer walk at all and she had a seizure and stopped breathing. I have been there with Babybear and done that. I think you know me by now with all the pms and all. I am a very concerned special needs yorkie mom. And believe me 99.9 percent of us on the board are just that very concerned furparents. So please if you have the funds available think about getting more testing done or a second opinion or see a neurologist if you can. You might find she needs more care or a differant medicine. I am so happy she is getting better. So did Babybear the first few times he was acting strange holding his head and neck weird and he was put on meds. He was fine for a while then he had a very bad seizure for no reason he was barking at a cat in my yard one minute and down sezing the next then not breathing, then he was. He was taken to the vets to get meds and sent home. He was fine in a day or so and did great jumping, running, playing with his furbrother and fursister. Then one Saturday he jumped off my lap and broke his neck and died in front of me if it was not for my husband giving him mouth to mouth Babybear would be dead today. Maybe we should have let him go that day, but I had to do everything in my power to make sure he was fine. Like is said we had the surgery done to make him better 85 to 90 percent change of walking again and that was July of last year. He is still not walking, i do physical therapy, water therapy and massage therapy for Babybear every week. HE also has acupuncture once a week. This has helped stregthen him but he still can not walk. And he has two carts(wheel chairs) he hates them. I think I have told you this before. Please, make sure these doctors are doing all they can for her. You have to remember just like with your skin kids you have to be her voice. If you beleive or you want a special test done do not let them tell you no. You are paying them to do these tests. And no I am not bashing you at all. Just some friendly suggestions here. Because I do not want to see you go through what I am or what I have gone through. That is why I am always sending you things for more information. My heart breaks to think that another furparent might have to go through this. I am going to run for now. And you are very welcome for all the info. If it helps you that makes my day. Enjoy your little Emma she has been sent to you for a reason. Learn from her.

| Mybabe4me I feel so awful for your little one.... you have inspired me to make a few more calls and to see if I can bring Emma up to be looked at and discuss more options. This morning she did have an episode, so i have no illusions that this is over... especialy learning from your experiences. You are a constant source or hope and inspiration and thankfully a wealth of knowledge for us!!! ken |

| Ken, Please if you ever need any info or help you have my private email address I sent to you. Please do not hesitate to write me and ask or you can ask me anything at any time about my little guy. Like I said I have been through quite a bit with him and will go through forever if it may be. And it will be a long time. I keep telling him I am in it for the long haul baby when I got you I signed on for at least 20 years so lets get moving.lol I just can't tell you in words how much he means to me. And I am so sure that Emma means the same to you. Babybear turns 3 today so I am off to give him a day full of more love and we are going to the pet store for him to pick out a new toy. I will be watching for updates today on how Emma is doing. Oh just a heads up. You will find if it is rainy out she might now do as well. It seems they are like humans that way. I care for a stroke surviver and when the weather is not nice she is off all day long not feeling well or just gloomy. Babybear seems to be the same way. Just keep letting that little girl know how much you love her. Just incase I did not give you my email it is Mybabe4me@aol.com. have a great day.

| Yorkieshadow Welcome Back!!!!! Top of the evening to you yorkieshadow.... glad to see you decided to check in on Emma!!! You know how it goes... unless someone on Ebay buys my Jewelry... there is no $ coming in!! Thankfully my Dad is taking care of med bills for Emma untill we get back on our feet so that $ issue is resolved....Emma has been doing fairly well today... eating drinking lots of water.... seems somewhat more alert & passed through a rough spot in the day rather quickly. We are restricting her to the crate or to our lap and she seems just fine with that. You know how they are ... they love to be loved! |

| the liquid vitamins Cannot recall who suggested the liquid packed with a days worth of vitamins from wal mart for Emma but thank you. We mixed with some canned food and used the syringe ... she loved it to the point where we made a soupy mix in a bowl and she went to town on it! Thank you again. Anyone have any suggestions for dry dog food that is recommended for yorkies? No matter what we would get her she loves the big / large dog performance brand that we feed our lab. She takes one piece at a time... walks it over to a rug... chomps on it till it's gone and then on to the next! Just wondered what you all have found that they love. We don't do the doggie treat thing with livasnaps or any of that stuff... we always really watched her diet as she did have pancreatitis a while back. BUt suggestions based on your experience is most appreciated! |

| Ken, have you thought of a second opinion?? It would be nice to have a complete dianosis on her. I know if she was mine I would have to just to set my mine at ease. If this is not vertabra related or AAI or spinal related then you wouldn't have to worry as much. Because unforturenately if it is AAI or a problem with her dens(I can send info on that) you might be in for a very long and on going problem with her. like I have said meds are not going to help forever.. And vets do not know a whole lot on this AAI subject. I hope she continues to get better. I will keep on praying she heals and finds the treatment she needs.
