| In your breeder's defense - I know that at terrible times like this - a lot of us say things that if we weren't so upset - we wouldn't say. My sister lost a son a few years ago, and her sister-in-law said, "I know just how you feel. I lost my dog last month." My sister never got over this remark. And, believe me, her sister-in-law has apologized many times. She said that she can't believe that she said that. Nevertheless --- your breeder's remark was not helpful or kind. I'm sure that she felt very bad. But, if I were her, I would have said that when and if you are ever ready for another pup - I would give one free. It is truly sad that you lost your little dog this way. I know how heartbreaking it is. It takes a long time to get over the first, hardest grief that you feel - and there will be a sadness in your heart forever. I still love and miss the dogs that l lost over 50 years ago. I think of them often. I'm sure you'll be ready for another dog one day - and it certainly won't take the place of the one you lost. But, it will be another little dog that you will love to pieces. Hang in there.... I prayed for time to go by so that my heart would stop hurting so much. It seemed almost unbearable for a long time. My family almost finally had an "intervention" - to get me to get on with my life. PS - I do have another little puppy now. And - no - it hasn't made me miss my other dog any less at all. But - my new little pup is almost a year old now, and I love him to pieces. He's a sweetheart, and I certainly enjoy him a lot. I just wish I had my other dog too. Carol Jean |

| I am very very sorry that this happened to you. You and your family are in my prayers. I agree with Vee she should give you another puppy from a future litter rather than offer to sell you one for half off. Again I am very sorry for what has happened to you.

| I really don't have much to say right now, but I wanted to just say that I have cried so much today. I am so sad. My cuddly girl is gone! I really appreciate all the responses. They have made me feel better. Looking at all of your pups makes me miss her, but they also make me remember how wonderful she was. How cuddly she was! How happy she was. She was only 6 months old when she died. But I know-without a doubt-that she was happy. She was the wiggliest thing you ever saw. Tears. I need to stop.... |

| Bless you heart, I feel so bad for you!! Your breeder probably just popped that off at the spur of the moment. Don't let that remark bother you right now. I have been where you are and can share your pain. She sounds like she was a very special little girl!!!! Sending hugs to you.

| [QUOTE=red98vett]OMG That's horrible ! I'm so sorry....That's just awful to hear Bless her heart - and yours too - I know you must be wanting to take back time and have your Dixie back with you. At the risk of sounding insensitve - did that breeder really feel bad ? I know she must have felt guilty... but my God - to talk about selling you another ???? She should be GIVING you another ...and trying to make another sale when she was solely responsible for the well being and safety of YOUR puppy is a bit coldhearted in my opinion. and as far as being upset - you're a bigger woman than I am - I realize accidents happen - but have a hard time understanding how someone who pet sits can let something like that happen. I agree 100% with red98vett. I am so sorry for your loss.

Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | I am so sorry to hear this i know you are grieving immensely right now. i do agree with everyone else that she should pay for the cremation and also the cost of your baby. also i think she should pay you for it not give you credit or give you another dog because when your ready to find another baby maybe you won't want to do business with her. again we are here for you when ever you need us.

| breeder As a long time breeder and in the exact same circumstances...I would replace the pup free of charge. The pup died because of carelessness.. not using a carrier is careless..the owner can do as they please..but the professional can not. The law states we have to use reasonable care in the cases..trying to carry a wiggly puppy is not resasonable, but a judge may not see it my way..I never really care what a judge says, if I feel something is ethcially wrong, then fix it. I have heard so many breeders draw up contract that say a pup must be returned in order to get a refund in the case of a genetic problem...that is just plain cruel..and clever, the breeder knows the pet owner will raerly give back their companion to get the money., so they a home free. If a dog in my care jumped off a chair and broke a leg, that would not be my fault..that is a common accident that happens, but if I leave it on the grooming table, walk away, go into another room, it falls off, it is my fault. | I am so sorry for your loss. The breeder is not acting like anyone I would ever want to do business with. If she does not make it right, however you feel that may be, I would make sure that anyone you know looking for a Yorkie does not deal with her. She owes you the money for your dog. Plain and simple. You loved your baby but replacing her is impossible. It might be easier for you to deal with if you get another breed, and she owes you that option. You should get another baby IF and when you are ready. Until then, she should pay you back. If not, blast her name on this site so that she can't ever treat any of our babies so irresponsibly. |

| Hi everyone. Not doing that great. This is just so painful... I haven't slept much at all since it happened. We have not heard from the breeder, but I did email her and ask her for the carrier back. (I don't know why I want it back, but I do.) I told her either my husband could come get it or she could send it to me. That was on Sunday and I haven't heard back as of yet. It was very simple and to the point. I did talk to our attorney. I told him the entire situation and when I told him that she told us that she didn't believe she was financially responsible for the loss of Dixie, he told me that he "Begged to differ". He said the bottom line is that she was responsible-there was a leash law. And if not on a leash, she needed the dog in the carrier I provided. He said she really doesn't want to go to court (in other words, she would never win), so she better make this right. |

| Rest In Peace Dixie I'm so sorry for your loss. I can understand your pain because I too lost a little girl almost 1 year ago to a tragic car accident. Maybe out little girls are playing together at the Rainbow Bridge right now.

need you! Time heals all pain or at least helps us deal with it. I am sure the breeder feels terrible. You don't have to take her up on her offer at this time, I am sure she understands but for the future when your ready go and pick out another furbaby to love. You'll know when the time is right. Good luck | |
