| Your current vet is probably a great vet, but a lot of vets don't see a lot of rare conditions in practice and therefor not be able to correctly diagnose it. A board certified internal medicine specialist will have more training and experience with less common and more serios conditions. If your vet really doesn't have an idea of what it could be it's best to refer you go a specialist

| wow, thanks for all the responses. I understand this is hard to watch, and its hard for us here also. I want to set you all at a little ease though. This is the worst that it got. Since being on the meds he only has this kind of episode once a day and it is dramatically not as severe. I wanted to post it as it was before medications in hopes that someone might know what it could possibly be. Since being on meds it IS GETTING BETTER. I know it is killing you all to watch and I know you all care so that is why I am posting now to tell you he is no longer in that much pain. As soon as the vet saw it he did say he needed meds and he has since been getting better. I posted it at its worst just so you can see it without meds, with meds its not as bad, please don't worry he isn't in the pain like in that video any longer. I hate to think that I have any of you out there in tears...I will try to post another video of him soon so that you can all see him as he is not instead of just at his worst. I hate that I am worrying you all so much. With as many people as there are on these boards I was hoping that someone could shed light on it and you all have, I can now ask about stenosis at the next vet visit. OH and also, the vet did mention the nerve damage as well. In which case the meds is all he can do and that is why he is on the meds. He said that "the prednisone will help the inflammation around the possible damaged nerves and the butorph will help the pain, and if the nerves aren't the problem then at least the butorph would help ease the pain of whatever is causing it" the vets words exactly, he too thinks we need an ultrasound and that is what we are doing now, looking for the right vet. I posted this all so that I could go in with some recommendations for tests, possibilites of what it can be, and also just some support. I was so intent on putting in all details that I left some out and am sorry for that!! |

| When I worked in Gastro as a Dr asst. We would on occasion have patients that were constipated, yet still had watery stools. We had to do impaction removals they were hard as rocks. So he may have something similar to that! I hope you do find the problem soon! Last edited by Sugaroo; 03-17-2009 at 04:40 PM. |

| The actual poo wasn't very big... at least compared to my Ginger's. Hers is at least twice that big. That's why I thought he may still be constipated and is having a hard time pushing it out. When my toddler had some constipation issues, it was smaller pieces and hurt her to push them. Then eventually there would be one big one. Just a thought. I'm not an expert by any means. There has been some excellent advice posted here. I really feel for you. I'm glad Thor is doing better on the meds and I hope there is a speedy resolution for you all!!

| I can only imagine how horrible this is for you to go through, let alone your pup. This is sad and i know he's doing better now. We are all here for support. Please keep us posted on what the Dr. says and what the plan of care will be. This is how we can learn, and identify in case this happens to one of us. I wish you well and hope you baby is doing better.

| Poor pup. My next step would also be imaging tests to see if it is structual. I also think stenosis of the colon is at the top of the list.

| That literally broke my heart. I feel terrible for that baby and yourself. Please take your baby to a different vet as soon as possible I couldn't take that crying, it would kill me inside. I would personally walk into every vet I knew until someone had the answers as to what it is going on. Please update when you can Sending so many prayers and good thoughts |

| Just checking in to see if there is any new news about the baby. I hope that he is doing better. This just seems so heartbreaking. I have to agree with the others that it may be some obstruction or stenosis of the colon or further up into the intestine. Please keep us posted about how he is doing. |

| Hey everyone...I finally heard back from one of the vets...because I called HIM. He had seen the video and said he will not see Thor, that there is nothing he can do. Have called 3 of the other vets since and they will not see him either. They have recommended another Vet in a bigger city. (2 hours away from me) and I have sent them the video as they requested. Hopefully someone can help. The vets I talked to say it is one of 3 things. 1. His opening is too small and there is no "fix" for it. He will live in pain with bowel movements his whole life. 2. Nerve damage internally. No repair possible. Again, he will live in this pain his whole life. 3. A mass internally, operation possible but chances of survival slim. I am sad, upset, scared...anything you can imagine...I can't see letting him live in this pain his whole life and the vets themselves said there is barely a chance a puppy that small can survive a surgery on his bowels to remove a mass. The risks are HUGE they said and some vets won't even attempt it. So what am I to do if a vet won't even help him...I am just sad and mad right now. |

| I am not sure about the closes teaching vet school but the vets i talked to today said to email the video the Memphis Tn to a place called MED VET. They said that they have the most high tech equipment possible so we will see. They did say that they have to agree to see him before we take him so hopefully they will agree to see Thor and we can fix him. |

| I am sorry to hear what the vets told you. I hope you keep the faith. Poor Thor. Also isn't the U of Tenn in Knoxville supposed to be a great vet school???? Keep us posted. And I hope everyone is reading that this video was made before he was on meds and that it is not as bad. It just seems like people are starting to attack you as if you are doing nothing to try to help little Thor.... |
