Your current vet is probably a great vet, but a lot of vets don't see a lot of rare conditions in practice and therefor not be able to correctly diagnose it. A board certified internal medicine specialist will have more training and experience with less common and more serios conditions. If your vet really doesn't have an idea of what it could be it's best to refer you go a specialist
