| thank you...that was sort of how I felt. We have tried everything possible in our area to help him. Getting the video out was my line to the world...begging for help. What good is the video going to be though if they don't see how it was without meds? I understand how they might feel as if I was doing nothing though...there are some pet owners out there that simply don't care and come to these sites for NON VET advice in hopes of avoiding the costs. That's not me...I just wanted advice in order to avoid unneeded stress on Thor, who is timid enough as it is. I am doing what I can, giving him meds, keeping his bowels loose, and loving him...I guess it is up to the vets now to find what is wrong. |

| I know that this is a long shot, but have you sent your video to the Tufts Vet Hospital in Mass? Since they handle everything in the world, and also have the university there also. They may happen to know what is the problem with your baby. I checked out their web site and they also have a pain clinic. Maybe you can send the video, and they may know what is the problem with the baby, and send information to your vet. I don't know but its worth a shot

| From a person that had constipation(TMI sorry) in the past FROM TAKING Prednisone and other steroid injections(bad back).and pain meds.. the small size of his poop makes me wonder... Are you sure he is not impacted? have you tried something like Laxatone Laxative? It tastes good to them... If you have an impaction you do have loose watery fluids that squeeze out...I apologize if this has been already addressed, but after seeing the video I felt so bad for your little guy I couldnt concentrate on all the postings... butorphanol is an opiates so be careful dosing him..I'm surprised he has been this so long? Steroids/ Prednisone Side Effects in Dogs/Cats • Systemic side effects to corticosteroids are generally dependent on dose and duration of treatment. Short-term use of prednisone is unlikely to cause adverse effects. Adverse effects are more common in animals on immunosuppressive doses. • Side effects seen in dogs include polyuria, polydipsia, polyphagia, poor haircoat, GI disturbance, diarrhea, vomiting, weight gain, GI ulceration, pancreatitis, lipidemia, elevated liver enzymes, diabetes mellitus, muscle wasting, and possible behavioral changes. • Polyuria, polydipsia, polyphagia may be seen in dogs even on short-term therapy. • Although cats are less likely to develop side effects than dogs, occasionally polyuria, polydipsia, polyphagia, weight gain, GI disturbances and behavioral changes occur. • Corticosteroids can cause or worsen gastric ulcers.

| You are doing a good job - we know you love and care for your baby. I think you should contact the University of Tenn - they are an excellent teaching vet school with high technology. Here are some other things: Maybe look into a Raw food diet. I say this, because a raw food diet produce very, very little waste (poop) - maybe 1 time a day (or 2) and very very small. (Nature's Variety is a good brand) Also, maybe ask your Vet about getting him to write you an Rx for Lactulose. You can get this filled at Walmart or Costco (bigger bottle for cheap). Anyway, they give lactulose to dogs with liver issues. The reason why is, Lactulose binds to toxins (those meds he is taking and poop toxins) in the body and rids them thru elimination. And the waste produced from Lactulose is like soft ice cream - so that may be very helpful to your baby. And the lactulose is not harmful for him.... Please keep us posted and let us know if there is anything at all we can do to help you get to the bottom of this Last edited by TLC; 03-19-2009 at 08:53 AM. |

| Thank you Mackymom and TLC. your thoughts are appreciated Mackymom...I am an MT (medical transcriptionist) in training. That training had me instantly looking up the side effects, dosages and all the other information about those meds...That is why it is so important to me to get him off of them as soon as possible. I have watched for all of the side effects and dose him VERY carefully. I want to thank you for taking the time to look up all of that for me though TLC, since he has been on his Meds and the canned food, his poop is the consistency of soft ice cream right now. The vet also thought it could be impaction but felt NOTHING in there and after even having VERY soft (not liquid) poop he still has this reaction. Thats when he put him on the meds. He said the same as you, if it was impaction it would have been either REALLY hard, or REALLY runny but his is just the consistency of ice cream and he goes multiple times a day. I am welcoming ANY advice....and I will try to take the time (with researching for school and doing medical reports for that, researching for a clue to what Thor has, and 3 kids, my time is stretched) to answer each suggestion to a reason it either didn't work or why i haven't tried it before. |

| Oh how sad. Did you show this tape to the breeder? If so, what did she say? I hope someone can find the cause of this and get your little one feeling better, that just broke my heart |

| Hi, Yes we did show the video to the breeder and told her about what he was doing and she too has never seen this before and she has been breeding yorkies and poodles for many years. I got an email back from Tufts in Mass. They said they have never seen it and recommend me doing what I am already doing. Just emailing the video out and hoping for some light to turn on the situation. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I'm curious why you haven't tried anything to view the structures, like CT/MRI/US, when it seems likely that this could be a structural problem?

| I hope someone can help your little one soon. I agree with Wylies Mom that maybe a CT/MRI/US should be done to try and see if it is structural. He is able to poo, it seems as though it is a matter of why it is causing so much pain to do so. Has your current vet done the ultrasound?
